1 NO: 04 TS - 32 June 14, 2004 TO: From: ATTENTION: SUBJECT: All Distributors and Dealers U.S. and Canada Andrew Plant Distributor Principals General Managers Parts Managers Service Managers Series 60 EGR Cooler Supercession Guidelines Once all the current spherical joint tube and shell EGR coolers ( ) have been exhausted from Canton PDC and your stock, you will need to adhere to the following directions when servicing any Series 60 EGR system. Note: DDC will not accept any returns of part number Once the obsolescence of part number has occurred at the Canton Parts Distribution Center, Canton will initiate the cancellation of all existing back orders. The Canton customer representative team will be working with you to replace those orders removed from the system against the appropriate replacement kits. In accordance with policy, Canton will be fulfilling unit down orders prior to any stocking orders. For your reference, included below are diagrams showing the two existing EGR cooler models for visual recognition when reading this document. 2 2 Section 1.1: 2002 / 03 S60 Engines with Bar Fin & Plate Cooler (Hot Side Change). If the engine being serviced is a 2002 / 03, serial number 06R through 06R with a bar fin & plate EGR cooler ( , , or ), and has an EGR cooler failure, the component will need to be replaced with an EGR Cooler Kit. This kit contains an updated tube and shell bolted flange cooler as well as other right side components needed for the cooler installation. The part number for the S60 EGR cooler replacement kit is either part number (Mid-Setback) or (Hi-Mount). You will need to utilize 18SP585 to determine which kit to procure and reference the installation instructions needed to change out the EGR cooler and the other right side components. For convenience we ve included within this document a crossreference (table 1.1) to help define kit usage and volume. Please note, that the high volume EGR cooler kit for on-highway trucks is part number (Mid- Setback). In addition to replacing the EGR cooler, you will also need to change the existing cold pipe to an updated three-piece cold pipe system. You will need to utilize 18SP584 to determine which S60 EGR Kit to procure and reference the installation instructions necessary to change out the cold pipe assembly. Both of these18sps are viewable through the DDC Extranet. For convenience we ve included within this document a cross-reference (table 1.2) to help define kit usage and volume. Please note, that the high volume cold pipe kits are part numbers (12.7L) and (14L). Canton PDC is prepared with a supply of both kits and advanced quantities of these kits should be ordered immediately to eliminate any delays.

If you receive a 2002 / 03 S60 EGR engine (for a cooler failure) that was previously converted to a tube & shell spherical joint EGR cooler ( ) and you have already exhausted all coolers from your stock. Please follow sections 1.1 and 1.2 as noted above in this document for the replacement of the EGR system. Note: If you still have inventory of the it must be exhausted prior to following these instructions. Section 2.2: 2002 / 03 S60 Engines Already Serviced with a Tube & Shell Spherical Cooler, Requiring Other EGR Component Service If you receive a 2002 / 03 S60 EGR engine previously converted to a tube & shell spherical joint EGR cooler ( ) and the engine requires additional EGR system repairs. Please reference the instructions listed in 04 TS-19 titled Nuisance Exhaust Odors in the Truck Cab. All EGR components except the cooler should be fixed as failed. Section 3.1: 2004 S60 Engines Built with Tube and Shell Spherical EGR Cooler If you receive a 2004 S60 EGR engine serial number 06R through 06R with a tube and shell spherical joint EGR cooler that has failed please reference and follow 18SP589. The part number for the 2004 S60 EGR

The high volume hot side kit for on-highway trucks is part number Please Note: No cold side modifications or kits should be necessary to service this engine. Please reference the instructions listed in 04 TS-19 titled Nuisance Exhaust Odors in the Truck Cab. All EGR components except the cooler should be fixed as failed. Section 3.3: 2004 S60 Engines Built with a Bolted Flange Tube & Shell EGR Cooler. If you receive a 2004 S60 EGR engine serial number 06R or higher, that has a bolted flange tube and shell EGR cooler failure, notify DDC immediately.
