Pfundt in 1936, GMP started operations in a downtown Philadelphia building as a specialty machine shop doing work for the local Bell Telephone company and for the electric utility company. GMP expanded to a production shop after landing a contract with Western Electric Company and, subsequently, forming a close relationship with Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ, which enabled it to manufacture prototypes of products for experimental use within the Bell System. GMP's 100,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Trevose is equipped with a full complement of technologically advanced machine tools manned by a well-trained team of craftspeople. Our own engineering staff conduct research & development of GMP's products using computer aided design, a prototype fabrication shop and an on-site testing facility. 4 DUCT RODDING Continuous Duct Rodders GMP produces the best performing and most durable duct rodders available anywhere - at a price that represents the very best value. Decades of in-field use have proven this high visibility, orange rod material to have the ideal combination of the mechanical properties of tensile strength, modulus, stiffness and bending behavior. These duct rodders are essential tools for underground tasks such as cleaning and locating ducts, threading lines or pulling cables. Rodders come equipped with a male threaded end fitting and tapered head on the leading end and a female threaded fitting on the back end. Our carriers are made of tubular steel and are powder coated for corrosion resistance. Larger diameter carriers have inboard wheels for easy transport at the job site. Each carrier is fitted with a hand-operated brake to control payout. Available in standard or toneable rod. 7 Powered Duct Rod Pusher With GMP's Powered Duct Rod Pusher and a 1/2" GMP Duct Rodder, the job of placing pulling lines or fiber cables just got that much easier. Hydraulically powers GMP 1/2" Duct Rodders in to and out of conduits. Pushes and pulls with forces up to 300 lbs. Rod speeds up to 130'/min (40m/min) Accurately measures footage and speed with an electronic monitoring system that works in either direction. The readout can be scaled to feet or meters. When pulling back, the fiberglass rod is placed directly back onto the cassette. Features rod access areas for wiping the rod clean during the pull back operation. 8 CABLE PULLING Sidewinder Fiber Optic Cable Puller The GMP Sidewinder, Trailer Mounted Fiber Optic Puller has been designed to exceed the requirements of installing underground telecommunication cables, employing a 32" diameter single capstan to provide a controlled force to the pulling rope or tape. The single capstan allows the winch to be placed at the mid point of a section to assist in the pull, thus achieving longer pulls. At 1400 lbs., the unit is easily pulled by a standard pickup truck. The power source is a commercial grade Honda GX390 gasoline engine which drives the fixed displacement tandem mounted hydraulic pumps. The rope take-up drum is removable and can be split to enable removal of rope. The capstan can be rotated through 90 on a swivel bracket from the in-line working position to the transverse transit position when in tow. The self-contained winch is powered by a Honda 11.7 HP gasoline engine and the precise control required is provided by the hydraulic circuit. There are drums for various applications and these are easily interchanged. The winch can be towed behind even small vehicles, and it s lightweight and can be easily positioned by one technician. 9 CABLE PUSHING Cable Pusher The GMP Cable Pusher has been designed to assist the laying of electrical cables. The unit has a profiled drive system to grip the cable, with a load applicator of adjustable upper rollers. The unit is hydraulically driven and is powered by a Portable Hydraulic Power Pack. 11 Cable Pulling Harnesses This convenient product will allow multiple pulls at one time by attaching 2 to 4 cables or ducts to the Puller. The slings are manufactured from aircraft quality wire rope. The various legs are staggered in length so the individual connections are not interfering with each other. The lead coupler can be easily dismantled to change out a leg or to add another leg. Each leg is marked with load capacity and they are pull tested to 3 times that rating. The safety factor of 3:1 is based on equal pull on all cables, (horizontal pull only). Other sling configurations are available upon request. These simple tools provide an inexpensive fracture point between the pulling line and cable avoiding costly cable damage by preventing the cable s rated pulling capacity from being exceeded. The swivels are available in two diameters; 7/8" (22.23mm) made from high quality aluminum and 5/8" (15.88mm) made from steel. The 5/8" size is extremely convenient when working with innerduct sizes below 1 5/8" in diameter. The design of the swivels incorporates a replaceable tension bolt that joins the barrel eye and swivel body. The bolt separates when pulling loads on the cable reach +/-5%.
