1 Criminalistics, Inc. k9.com Install Help K9 SAFE (9 ) unlock Interface preliminary On the rear doors for the Tahoe, the door lock/unlock actuator and child safety lock actuators are integrated directly into the door latch assembly and are controlled by the Body Control module of the vehicle. In order for the K9 unit to unlock door, you may need to install two automotive SPST relays to actuate both lock motors inside latch. If only door unlock motor is used, child safety lock may also be on and prevent Bailout solenoid from opening door. The recommend hook up is shown below. Please note wire colors listed on diagram are from the 0 Body Builders guide, but should apply to several vehicle years. Relay & is for door unlock function and relay is for child safety unlock function. Option : tap into wires at door latch assembly Note: This option will activate both door unlock function as well as release child safety lock. The Brown/Yellow, Gray and White/Dark Blue stripe that go to the plug on the door latch must be cut and relay is installed between the cut wires. The harness side of the cut wire goes to terminal A of the relay and cut wire going to the plug goes to terminal 0 of the relay. If needed you can tap into the black wire of the plug for the GND signal of the relay. You may be able to use only the door unlock relays (&) without installing the child safety lock relay(). Please fully test door with solenoid to verify proper operation. Both lock actuators share the Brown/Yellow wire for +v unlock functions. Relays & provide ground. Based on diagram 0, unlock function is +V on /YL and Ground on & /D BU. Relays are required because according to diagram body control module keeps ground on all pins when not used. Relay is required because it appears child safety lock is open circuit by relay KR. Also, some initial feedback from the field indicate there is no ground on the & /D BU wires, but something closer to V. Using the relays as shown above worked on a new 0 door latch assembly on our test bench.

2 Option : tap into door unlock signal at driver s door. Note: This option will unlock all vehicle doors and does not activate the release of the child safety lock. In this option, you do not need to cut the wires. You only need to tap into them. There should be a Brown w/white stripe wire in the driver s door. This is the unlock signal from the door switch. A momentary ground connection will cause all vehicle doors to unlock. Since the K9 unit outputs V on its unlock wire, we must use the relay to switch a ground signal on that wire. You can get GND from vehicle chassis or solid black wire at driver s door.
