1. Installation - Ceiling Column WARNING The weight of a protective shield combined with a lamp, when both Hercules Medium Duty arms are fully extended, means the column base must be firmly anchored to a flat surface. Refer to Section 10. Weights & Dimensions. If the ceiling column is fixed via an anchorage plate to an overhead framework or to the Unistrut or similar channels of a suspended ceiling, it is important that a load bearing structure correctly supports the plate. The base of the ceiling column and its lower pivot assembly are both attached to the 6cm od. vertical suspension tube by eight M6 x 12mm long socket head countersunk screws. These screws should not be removed, as the parts then become unsupported and will fall. NOTE: The dual mount ceiling column has two arm mounting pivots, one of which has internal electrical contacts, visible when viewed from above. The arm supporting a lamp must be mounted onto this pivot. 1.1 Column Installation - Direct to a Concrete Ceiling (Single and Dual Mount). NOTE: The recommended orientation of the dual mount ceiling column is with the pivots aligned parallel with the long axis of the X-ray table and with the radiation shield pivot towards the head end. (The pivot for the attachment of an arm & lamp has internal electrical contacts.) Step 1 Use the template at the rear of this manual to mark the position of the holes to be drilled in the ceiling (after reference to the above note) and drill 4 holes 25mm od. x 100mm deep into the concrete. These are equally spaced on a 150mm diameter circle. WARNING Do not remove any of these screws or pins Step 2 Cement 4 M10 threaded anchors, not supplied, flush with the ceiling using suitable cement. As instructed by the manufacturer of the cement, allow sufficient time for the cement to set. Step 3 Remove plastic covers to gain access to the top flange. Use M10 x 40mm long button head, hex socket, cap screws and washers (not supplied) to attach the column to the ceiling. Apply Loctite to the threads before inserting the screws. Single Mount Ceiling Column Step 4 Snap the plastics together on the column, making sure to secure the tube plastics first. 4

1.2. Column Installation to a Unistrut Framework Note Optional item WARNING These procedures concerning a Unistrut framework assume that professional architectural or engineering services have been consulted. The installer should ensure that the framework is securely fixed to the main structure of the building and should consult the Unistrut manufacturers' installation instructions for proper mounting information. Anchorage Plate (Catalog number PS-736) comprises: A steel plate 350mm x 350mm x 6mm thick with a 13mm diameter hole in each corner, 260mm apart, & 1 central 60mm diameter hole, plus 4 x 11mm diameter holes to suit the ceiling column flange fixing holes. Four M10 x 40mm long button head, hex socket, cap screws, washers & locknuts are included which are used for attaching the ceiling column to the plate. WARNING: The column base must be bolted to a flat surface. Step 1 Determine that existing or newly installed unistrut channels, concete ceiling and/or other supporting elements can support the applied load and that professional architectural or engineering services have been consulted to make this determination. Step 2 Align the holes in the base of the ceiling column with the optional anchorage plate and use the supplied M10 x 40mm long cap screws to bolt together. Apply Loctite to the threads. Step 3 Bolt the anchorage plate, or a suitable alternative, to a Unistrut framework so that the distance between the plate and any suspended ceiling is no greater that 35cm. If an lamp is fitted, ensure the lamp mounting pivot is properly oriented, as the lower section of the column cannot be rotated once the base is attached to the ceiling. Refer to the warning on the previous page regarding this pivot. Step 4 Use a carpenter's level to ensure that the column is plumb. * The recommended orientation of the column is with the pivots aligned parallel with the long axis of the table and with the radiation shield pivot towards the head end. 8 2. Installation - Wall Bracket WARNING The weight of a protective window or an lamp, when the Hercules Medium Duty arm is fully extended requires the wall bracket to be firmly anchored to a concrete wall or other vertical surface of sufficient strength. When installed correctly, the four supplied fastenings will each be capable of supporting 1375 lbs (625 kg). To properly make this determination professional architectural or engineering services must be consulted. NOTE: The optimum installed height for the wall bracket is inches (200cm) when measured from the bottomfixing hole to the floor. Step 1 Determine that existing or newly installed wall structure and/or other supporting elements can support the applied load and that professional architectural or engineering services have been consulted to make this determination. Step 2 Use the template supplied with the wall bracket to mark the position of 2 holes 7.5 inches (190mm) vertically apart. (See the above note regarding the optimum distance from the floor). Drill 2 holes 25mm od. x l00 mm deep. Step 3 Cement the supplied M10 threaded anchors flush with the wall using suitable cement. As instructed by the manufacturer of the cement, allow sufficient time for the cement to set properly. Step 4 Remove 3 plastic covers and attach the wall bracket to the wall using the supplied two M10 x 35mm long hexagon head crews and washers. Two shims are supplied and may be used between the bracket and wall to ensure that the later attached Hercules Medium Duty arm is level. Step 5 Check and tighten all screws. Replace all plastic covers. Min 40cm to ceiling 200cm to floor Plastic covers 6

The arm is loaded with a high-tension spring and will spring up with great force. 9

4.2 Mounting a Protective Window WARNING The height adjustable spring arm is under tension and may spring up with considerable force Center Mount, Series 596, 745 and 765 Protective Windows Step 1 If the clear lead acrylic window has a corner cut-out, determine if it is normally positioned bottom left or bottom right. The central ball & socket joint allows the window to move in any direction and the central vertical support can turn 360 in the Hercules Medium Duty arm, so the cut-out can be positioned at any corner. However, backward tilt is restricted by the position of the central support. Maximum forward tilt at the top of the window is achieved when the support is nearest to the practitioner and the window is on the other side. Step 2 Place the 45mm od. hub of the ball & socket joint in the central hole in the clear lead acrylic window. This joint is located at the lower end of the vertical support. Attach the window-retaining disc to the joint with 4 - M4 x 20mm long countersunk allen head screws. Apply Loctite to the threads. Step 3 Refer to Section 4. Mounting Equipment. Coupling Center vertical support Hub Ball & socket joint Retaining disk Frame Mount, Series 545, 645, 445, 568, 434, 534, & 665 Protective Windows These are shipped fully assembled and ready to install on Hercules Medium Duty arm. Refer to Section 4. Mounting Equipment. 10

4.3 Protective Barrier Window Adjustments AADCO Medical Inc. Each shield is pre-set with a degree of friction that enables the window to maintain its tilt or swivel angle. Adjustments to alter the function, i.e., as a result of loosening due to excessive wear, can be carried out as described below Frame Mounted Protective Barriers Step 1 To adjust friction at the horizontal pivot points, locate the frition adjustment screws. Step 2 Insert a 2.5mm hex wrench and turn the 5mm socket head set screw clockwise by a slight amount to increase friction. Friction Adjustment Screws Center Mounted Protective Barriers Step 1 To increase the friction at the central ball & socket joint use a 3mm hex wrench Step 2 Turn each of the 4-6mm socket head set screws clockwise by a slight amount. Step 3 Check the friction after each screw is adjusted. Caution Do not over tighten and do not loosen the other screws as this might disassemble the ball & socket joint and cause the window to fall from the vertical support. Adjust 4 screws on reverse in turn diagonally by a slight amount to alter friction. DO NOT REMOVE THESE SCREWS 11

4.4 Mounting a Protective Curtain This protective curtain is designed to be placed at the bottom edge of overhead lead acrylic protective barriers. The protective curtain is fixed to the bottom edge of the lead acrylic panel on both sides by pads of adhesive backed Velcro material. When fixed to the acrylic panel, these pads align with Velcro material sewn to the protective curtain, holding the curtain in place on the acrylic. Installation Installation is best accomplished by laying the acrylic panel on a flat horizontal surface. The acrylic window should be clean and dry. Step 1 Place protective padding under the acrylic panel to guard against scratching. Step 2 Separate the protective curtain, as shown in Figure 1. at the top edge, bending back the uppermost panel and exposing the Velcro pads (the pads that attach to the acrylic panel have protective paper covering the adhesive - DO NOT remove the paper from the adhesive strips yet). Step 3 Lift the acrylic panel and slide the bottom attaching edge of the protective curtain under it. Now align the bottom attaching panel to conform to the shape of the acrylic panel. The bottom edge of the Velcro should be at or near the bottom edge of the acrylic panel for maximum protection. Step 4 At this point, you need some assistance, preferably one person on either side of the panel to lift the acrylic enough for you to gently remove the paper backing from the bottom pads on the protective curtain. Be sure to hold the curtain in the proper alignment. Figure 1. Step 5 When the paper backing is removed make any necessary final adjustments in the position of the curtain. Step 6 Now the acrylic should be gently lowered to the adhesive surface and pressed down firmly along the length of the acrylic to establish the bond. Figure 2. Step 7 The protective paper can now be removed from the upper attaching panel and the pads pressed down in alignment with the bottom panel. We recommend leaving the panel and curtain in the flat position for 8 hours to allow the bond to set. Step 8 Due to the added weight of the protective curtain, it may be necessary to adjust the arm to compensate, following the instructions in Section 5. Adjusting the Spring Tension of the Medium-Weight Arm. 12 Figure 2.

5. Adjusting the Spring Tension of the Medium-Weight Arm After completing the installation work or when modifying the load, the spring force may need to be adjusted. If the spring force is too low, in other words the spring arm sinks to the lower stop point, the spring force will need to be increased. 1. Locate the spring adjustment slot in the side of the springarm. Raise or lower the equipment to reveal the adjustment wheel with holes (see photo). 2. Insert a 5mm adjustment rod into one of the holes and rotate the adjustment wheel upward (CW). 3. Remove adjustment rod and check spring tension by raising and lowering the equipment. 4. If the spring arm still sinks, repeat spring adjustment until desired support is achieved. If the spring force is too high, in other words the spring arm rises to the upper stop point, the spring force will need to be decreased. 1. Locate the spring adjustment slot in the side of the springarm. Raise or lower the equipment to reveal the adjustment wheel with holes (see photo). 2. Insert a 5mm adjustment rod into one of the holes and rotate the adjustment wheel downward (CCW). 3. Remove adjustment rod and check spring tension by raising and lowering the equipment. 4. If the spring arm still rises, repeat spring adjustment until desired support is achieved. Adjustment Wheel with Holes 5mm Adjustment Rod Spring Adjustment Slot 5.1 Removing Equipment from the Arm NOTE: We recommend that removal of equipment from the arm be carried out by two people. 1. CAUTION: The lower arm (6) must not rise higher than Position B (horizontal) shown on the diagram check carefully. Before removing any equipment, secure (push) the transit locking knob up (in), then lift the arm until it stops against the transit locking knob. 2. Remove screw (2). 3. Lift the safety sleeve (1). 4. a) CAUTION: Ensure that the arm (6) is in Position B when the equipment is removed. b) Hold on firmly to the item of equipment. c) Remove safety segment key (4) and separate the equipment from the arm (6). If necessary, turn the equipment slightly to make this easier. 5. Replace the safety segment key (4) and re-fit the safety cover (1) with screw (2). 13

6. Installation - Ceiling Track WARNING These procedures concerning a Unistrut framework assume that professional architectural or engineering services have been consulted. Therefore, these instructions are only guidelines for installation and are in no meant to supplant or substitute for professional architectural or engineering services. In all cases, the installer should ensure that the framework is securely fixed to the main structure of the building and should consult the Unistrut manufacturers' installation instructions for proper mounting information. These installation procedures assume the track is mounted to Unistrut or similar channels. With suspended ceilings or in rooms with high ceilings, a framework that is fixed to the structure of the building should support these channels. Suitably qualified engineers should carry out the installation of the track. 6.1 Track Installation - Across Unistrut Channels NOTE: With Unistrut channels across the track the following applies: The track should be suspended from a minimum of 4 Unistrut channels. The track must not extend beyond the last bolt point on each end. The track may be mounted across the channels at a maximum angle of 30. Step 1 Bolt the track to the channels using 4 bolts with lock washer per side per side. If Power Source Cable Drape Track (OSP- 747) is also being used, refer to section 7.2 before proceeding. A hardware set comprises one each of the following: hexagon set screw, lock washer and Unistrut nut. 19 8. Electrical Connections AADCO Medical Inc. WARNING Special care must be taken to ensure that the AC lines are correctly connected, particularly the ground wire. The lamps must be connected to an electrical supply in accordance with accepted local electrical standards and regulations. Turn off the line power before installing or performing maintenance. Lamps are supplied for either line or low voltage connection: a) Lamps with an internal power supply in the lamp housing must be connected to the line voltage as stated on the lamp head. b) Low voltage lamps require a separate external transformer. Caution Before connecting to the AC line supply, check the lamp head label for voltage requirements. 8.1 Electrical Connections - Ceiling Mounted Lamps The supply cable for columns attached to a concrete ceiling should be connected to the female connector via a cut out in the edge of the base. The supply cable for columns attached to the optional anchorage plate (see Chapter 1.2) should be connected to the female connector via a central hole in the plate. 8.2 Column Wiring WARNING ELECTRICAL SURGES Power off the on-site power supply and secure it from being switched on again. NOTE The supply network must be secured (fuse settings) according to the lamphead installation manual. A complete (all-pole) disconnection is required for the connection on-site, with clearance between the contacts of 3mm or more. Step 1 The Column comes pre-wired with it's own male quick disconnect connector. A female connector has been provided with the kit and needs to be installed to the wire that will power the column. Start by stripping the last 1/8th of an inch from each of the three wires. Once the tips of the wires are exposed, place one of the female pins over the exposed section of one of the wires. Step 2 Next insert the the wire and the pin into the crimper, with the tabs of the pin facing up towards the crimper. Squeeze Firmly, release crimper, and repeat for the other two wires. the recess of 17

Step 3 Once all the wires have had the female pins crimped securely in place, the wires can be inserted the female connector. The Green, safety ground, wire gets inserted in the socket that is half square and half round. The Black and White wires get inserted into the two round holes. The Black wire gets inserted in the middle, and the white wire gets inserted in the end round hole. In this configuration, for DC voltage, the white wire would be the live, hot, wire. The column can now be powered by connecting the male and female connectors. Step 4 Install plastics, making sure to install column tube plastics first. WARNING ELECTRICAL SURGES A ceiling anchorage which was not correctly grounded might cause electrical surges in the case of failure. Check the premounted ground connection and connect on-site ground conductors. 8.3 Electrical Connections - Track Systems with Lamps NOTE The movable carriage in the ceiling track is equipped with a cable cord grip with a strain relief feature. The supply cable is not supplied and must be a flexible type, able to withstand vibration and movement. The supply cable should exit from the ceiling at a point near to the side of the ceiling track mid-way along its length. A service loop should be formed in the cable extending down from the ceiling by approximately 60cm. This arrangement will permit the carriage to travel its full length of 220cm Supply cable connected to male connector via cable guide on the right, connecting to the center of the column. Cable cord grip Column cable Step 1 Remove the plastics to gain access to the column base. Remove & retain 2 - M3 x 12 socket head countersunk screws from the lower face of the carriage and remove a 43mm x 57mm plate to reveal a cavity in the carriage. Install the cable cord grip and fix it to the central 20mm hole in the plate. Step 2 Loosen the bell mouth end of the cable gland and pass the supply cable through. Attach the supply cable to the female connector, which comes out the base of the column. Step 3 Re-attach the 43mm x 57mm plate and secure with the 2 - M3 countersunk screws. Secure the supply cable with the second built-in saddle clamp and tighten the bell mouth end of the cable gland. Supply cable Step 4 Install the plastics on the column, making sure to do the tube plastics first. 18

9. Inspection & Maintenance WARNING Turn off the power to any fitted lamp before cleaning or performing maintenance. Insert the safety angle & screw into the spring arm before removing a protective window or lamp. (See Sections 4 & 5) The suspension system has joints and pivots, which may create pinch points. Keep body parts away when these are in motion. Inspection After initial installation and periodically thereafter: Inspect all screws/bolts to ensure that they are tightened. Inspect all parts for signs of wear or damage. Ensure that cabling to a lamp is not damaged. Check the total system to ensure that it moves smoothly. Caution: If any worn or damaged parts are found do not continue to use them. Cleaning The suspension parts are provided with high quality baked enamel coating. They can be cleaned and disinfected using agents normally used in operating rooms. The lamp head and clear plastic lens can be kept clean by wiping with a soft viscose sponge. After drying with a non fluffing cloth the lens should be wiped with an anti-static agent. This largely prevents dust deposits as a result of electrostatic charging. Do not use scouring agents or use disinfectant containing more than 20% alcohol. Protective Windows fitted to radiation shields contain lead acrylic. Small marks on the surface of lead acrylic can be removed with be fine acrylic polish. Use isopropyl alcohol on a soft cloth to remove marks. Maintenance The radiation shields and lamps described in this manual are constructed in such a way that all mechanical elements, bearings and joints only need periodic inspection. However, preventative maintenance procedures are recommended where the articulated joints are greased annually with a light coat of a lithium based automotive grease (or equivalent). 10.
