Reduced torque Due to the unique wave line rubber seat and disc shape the butterfly valve has a low torque. 5 Construction DN40 - DN300 General overview utterfly valves for high performance applications are found in industries like: Chemical Food and beverage Pharmaceutical Pulp and paper Mining and power Vacuum HVAC industries Square stem - angled at 45 ISO 5211 Stainless steel disc ensures blow-out proof stem. V-ring provides a weather seal. PTFE bearing ensures perfect turning and centric positioning of the stem. The sleeve bearing provides excellent support if actuators are used for automation purposes. Multi-standard alignment holes help mount the valves. V-ring as secondary sealing ensures that media does not escape to the atmosphere through the stem guide. Unique seat wave line rubber seat reduces the torque of the valve and extends the life span of the sealing. Disc with two-piece shaft construction enhances the flow capacity of the valve. The shape of the disc provides lower torque and prolongs the life span of the valve. Seat vulcanized to a phenol back-up ring which makes seat replacement very easy. The tolerances assure 100% tightness at full differential pressure. The valve is ideal for vacuum applications and mounting between flanges is easily done. 7 Construction DN40 - DN300 Wafer & lug type Shaft / bearings Square stem. PTFE bearing ensures perfect turning and centric positioning of the stem. The sleeve bearing provides excellent support, where actuators are used for automation purposes. Unique bottom bearing The bottom PTFE/Graphite bearing is one of a kind - it is placed inside the disc, where it is actually needed. Usually there would be a bearing in the bottom of the body - which means a rotating shaft that transmits the forces put onto the disc down to the bearing. The result is a displacement of the forces and this is prevented by the unique bottom bearing - giving the valve a longer and trouble-free life span. Long shafts for transmitting force are more vulnerable to excessive torsion than short shafts. V-type ring and end cover The V-ring provides a secondary seal which prevents leakage to the stem. The V-ring also provides a weather seal. The end cover is sealed at the bottom with a threaded plug. The end cover has an anit-dust O-ring. Know-how makes the difference 7

18 Installation guide Installation guide for utterfly Valves Check that the specifications on the identification plate meet the requirements regarding pressure, temperature and media. The piping must have a straight line and the flanges have to be parallel. Furthermore there must be a distance between the flanges, corresponding to the face-to-face dimensions of the butterfly valve. The butterfly valve can be mounted in any direction. However if there are a lot of dirt particles on the bottom of the pipe, it will be suitable to mount the stem of the butterfly valve horizontally. This will protect the pivot point of the disc. efore commissioning, the pipe work has to be rinsed out to remove dirt and remnants of welding material, to avoid damage on the liner. During the rinsing procedure, the butterfly valve has to be positioned as open and may not be operated, before the rinsing has been completed. Welding operations may not be performed nearby the butterfly valve, as welding drops can damage the liner. Do not use gaskets. The liner works as sealing to the atmosphere. Where vacuum, high flow rate or water hammering can occur, flanges without a loose collar should be used, to obtain the best conditions. Carefully place the butterfly valve between the flanges, with the disc in closed position. Check that the flange covers the area of the liner. Afterwards tighten the bolt on the flange by hand. Carefully open and close the valve to check that the disc centralizes and the disc does not touch the flange. With the disc in the open position, tighten crosswise with a wrench. As the butterfly valves are equipped with the unique wave shaped liner, the operation of the valves, either free stem, handle or gear operated, has to follow the guidelines as shown below. A small triangular shaped figure is placed on the liner - this triangle indicates which way the disc has to enter the liner. Generally spoken the disc has to rotate clockwise - CW - in order to have the lowest possible torque - and thus the longest possible life time. Turn disc CW towards arrow to close Though the valves are constructed to work as shown on the left, counter clockwise rotation - CCW - can be applied without problems, if consider that the torque in this case will increase. The best angle for a closed valve is 90 because of the special design of the liner and rounded disk edge. Turn 90 CW to close 18 Know-how makes the difference
