1 Cable Operated Dampers Cable operated dampers are the most convenient and economical way to balance air flow through the face of a diffuser. The air flow is modified by simply adjusting a core wire which changes the damper blade position. Once the adjustment has been made, it is locked in place at the end of the cable. Duro Dyne offers both standard Cable Operated Dampers (COD) and Gear Driven Cable Operated Dampers (GCOD). COD- Standard Cable Operated Dampers Standard Cable Operated Dampers (COD) utilize a push/pull cable end and lock with an Allen key and set screws. 3 One World Trade Center Near the Tenth anniversary of 9-11, Duro Dyne Territory Managers visited the construction of One World Trade Center (formerly the Freedom Tower). This aspiring $3.1 billion project serves as a beacon of hope and marks the rebirth at ground zero. Constructed of impermeable concrete and steel, the tower is set to hold 2.6 million square feet of office space, world class restaurants, a Transportation Hub and World Financial Center. At completion, One World Trade Center is set to stand 1,776 ft tall representing the year the Declaration of Independence was signed. The planning of this prominent project has been in the works since The finest contractors, architects, engineers, and building materials are being utilized. The sheet metal contractor on the job, Aabco Sheet Metal, has been in business for 35 years and often has partnered with Duro Dyne for quality products. Duro Dyne supplied Aabco some of the materials for this ground breaking project. Most notably, Duro Dyne s Cable Operated Dampers were installed in every main bathroom throughout all 105 Floors. Cable Operated dampers can be easily adjusted at the face of a diffuser. This allows the service contractor to balance the airflow without accessing the ceiling providing a tremendous labor savings. 4 COD s in use at Florida Marlin s Stadium Two miles west of bustling downtown Miami, the construction of a new baseball stadium is underway for the Florida Marlins. Having shared the current stadium since their inception in 1993, Marlin ownership and fans mark this as a long awaited milestone in MLB history. To be completed in 2012, this will become the official stadium of the Florida Marlins when the team changes its name to the Miami Marlins. The $515 million dollar construction job boasts high end architectural features including a retractable roof, VIP Suites, aquarium backstops and a high end clubhouse for the new Miami Marlins. United Sheet Metal is the HVAC Contractor for the New Marlins Ballpark. They have decided to use many labor Marlin s Stadium Under Construction saving Duro Dyne products (supplied by Conklin Metals) to ease in the construction of the new stadium. One of the interesting aspects of the proposed stadium is the clubhouse. It will be located alongside the third base line and will be an elliptical shape with lockers along the perimeter. The unique ceiling of the clubhouse will have a Duro Dyne Cable Operated Damper attached to every linear diffuser. Duro Dyne s cable operated dampers offer a convenient way to balance air flow through the face of a diffuser. The damper is installed upstream of the diffuser with the control cable inside the airstream and accessible from the diffuser grill. The air flow is adjusted by simply pushing or pulling on the core wire which changes the damper blade position. This allows the service contractor to easily balance the airflow without having to go into the ceiling. This minimizes the service contractor s time at the jobsite. With over 300 Duro Dyne Cable Operated Dampers to be used on the Marlins Jobsite, Project Manager, Loren Grootegoed of United Sheet Metal marked a notable cost savings by using the Duro Dyne product. In addition, Mike Gruter, project superintendant with United Sheet Metal remarked, Utilizing the cable operated dampers from Duro Dyne has saved approximately 50% of the labor that we would have spent using other products to achieve the same results. United Sheet Metal plans to utilize Duro Dyne Cable Operated dampers on future jobs and hopes for them to become an integral part of duct construction standards. 6 A Division Of Cable Operated Damper Internal Mounted Cable Cable operated dampers are the most convenient and economical way to balance air flow through the face of a diffuser. The damper is installed upstream of the diffuser with the control cable inside the airstream and accessible from the diffuser grill. The air flow is adjusted by simply pushing or pulling on the core wire which changes the damper blade position. Once the adjustment has been made, it is locked by tightening the set screw nearest to the looped end. Then the cable is removed from view by tucking it back into the neck of the diffuser. However, air flow adjustment is sometimes required to achieve original design parameters. Installation of a cable operated balancing damper allows the balancing contractor a convenient way to adjust air volume without entering the ceiling space. The cable operated damper is mounted upstream of the air device. The adjustment cable is passed through the neck of the air device, in the airstream and is accessible for adjustment through the face of the air device. Once the air volume is satisfactory, the cable position is locked with a set screw and the cable is pushed into the neck of the air device, hidden from view. SUGGESTED SPECIFICATIONS: Round Internal Cable Operated Dampers shall be Duro Dyne CODR type dampers. Dampers shall be manufactured of G60 or better galvanized steel. Cable case shall be galvanized steel, solid core control wire shall be stainless steel. Installation shall be as described in the Duro Dyne cable operated damper instructions. Sizes and locations shall be as indicated on the mechanical drawings. 27 Rectangular Opposed Blade Cable Operated Damper Internal Mounted Cable A Division Of Cable operated dampers are the most convenient and economical way to balance air flow through the face of a diffuser. The damper is inserted into a slot in the side of the duct upstream of the diffuser. The air flow is adjusted by simply pushing or pulling on the core wire which changes the damper blade position. Once the adjustment has been made, it is locked by tightening the set screw nearest to the looped end. However, air flow adjustment is sometimes required to achieve original design parameters. Installation of a cable operated balancing damper allows the balancing contractor a convenient way to adjust air volume from a more accessible location. The cable operated damper is inserted through a slot in the side of the duct upstream of the diffuser. The adjustment cable is routed to an appropriate area. Once the air volume is satisfactory, the cable position is locked with a set screw. For CODS, loosen the locking set screw closest to the looped wire end of the control cable, push or pull the looped wire end of the control cable and tighten the set screw nearest to the looped wire end of the cable to lock the damper blade in the desired position. Store the control cable appropriately. For GCODS, rotate the ¼ control shaft of the gear mechanism CW or CCW using a medium flat head screw driver or a ¼ nut driver. For adjustments, repeat Step 6 as needed. NOTE: A ¼ deep socket may be required to make adjustments when the gear mechanism is mounted to the ceiling box. Step 5: Route the damper control cable to the remote adjustment point, being sure to avoid severe bending or kinking of the control cable. For XGOCDS, mount gear mechanism to either the wall of the plenum using the angle bracket, or remove the angle bracket and mount it to the air device. Step 6: Adjust the damper blade position for proper air flow. For XCODS, loosen the locking set screw closest to the looped wire end of the control cable, push or pull the looped wire end of the control cable and tighten the set screw nearest to the looped wire end of the cable to lock the damper blade in the desired position. Store the control cable appropriately. For XGCODS, rotate the ¼ control shaft of the gear mechanism CW or CCW using a medium flat head screw driver or a ¼ nut driver. NOTE: The orientation of the Gear Mechanism Assembly may be rotated 90 depending on your available clearance. Secure the Housing in place, then secure the Cover Plate to the Housing using the Flat Head Screws also supplied. (Mounting hardware for the Housing is not Supplied). Step 4: Adjusting the Damper Blade Open or Closed (depending on the starting orientation of the Damper Blade): Using a 1/4 Socket or a Flat Screwdriver, rotate the Gear Mechanism Shaft CW or CCW to the desired position.
