International LT and RH Overview and Walk-around Study Guide 6 Module 1: Engine and Drivetrain FOR TRAINING PURPOSES, THIS COURSE WILL FOCUS ON THE INTERNATIONAL LT. THE INFORMATION IN THIS COURSE ALSO APPLIES TO THE INTERNATIONAL RH. The International LT is offered with a choice of two engines, the Cummins X15 and the International A26. A26 and X15 Overview The International A26 is a 12.4 liter diesel engine equipped with emissions controls that vary depending on the year of emissions certification. Oil Filter Module On the A26, the oil filter is engine mounted and located near the right front corner of the engine. The oil filter element is a cartridge style filter, and can be replaced separately from the filter cap and housing. The 2017 A26 engine offers a high volume primer pump, which reduces the time and effort needed to prime the fuel system. The Cummins X15 is a 15 liter diesel engine with similar emissions controls as the A26. As with the A26, the emissions controls on the X15 may vary with each emissions certification year. Emissions Label The emissions label on the X15 is located on the left front corner of the valve cover and has similar information to the A26's emissions label.

7 International LT and RH Overview and Walk-Around Study Guide Oil Filter A spin-on type oil filter is mounted on the right side of the engine, just below the turbocharger. When it is replaced, the entire filter is removed from the oil filter housing, discarded, and replaced with a new filter. Dipstick Location The engine oil dipstick has a yellow handle and is located near the left rear side of the engine. Oil Fill Location The engine oil fill tube is located on the left front side of the engine. In some applications, the tube is positioned so that the oil can be filled without the need for a funnel. Fuel Primer Pump The Cummins X15 uses an electric fuel primer pump, located just above the secondary fuel filter on the left side of the engine. Cooling System Surge Tank A transparent surge tank prevents over or under filling and allows for quick and accurate coolant level inspections. The surge tank collects air bubbles in the coolant to promote longer life of the water pump, cylinder liners, and Exhaust Gas Recirculation, or EGR, cooler. The surge tank is fitted with a 15 PSI rated cap. Coolant Temperature Management The International LT offers superior coolant temperature management, maintaining coolant temperature in an ideal range. This enables the use of a smaller cooling package, and a single radiator.

International LT and RH Overview and Walk-around Study Guide 8 Clutches Hydraulic A hydraulic clutch actuation system is standard on the International LT. With this system, the clutch is engaged and disengaged by using a hydraulic master cylinder connected to the clutch pedal to force pressurized fluid through a high pressure hose to a hydraulic slave cylinder. Benefits include longer clutch life, less shock to the vehicle s driveline and cargo, and a quieter cab environment. A translucent reservoir allows fluid level inspections at a glance and the system uses commonly available Department of Transportation, or DOT, type 3 or 4 brake fluid. Air Assisted Hydraulic An optional compressed air assisted hydraulic clutch actuation system is also available. This feature significantly reduces the force needed to actuate the clutch pedal. Grease Fittings Some LT vehicles may be equipped with an optional remote grease fitting that is used to lubricate the Clutch Release Bearing. If equipped, this fitting will be located near the access cover on the bottom of the clutch housing.

9 International LT and RH Overview and Walk-Around Study Guide Transmission The International LT can be equipped with one of several Eaton or Allison transmission offerings, including Manual and Fully Automated Manual transmissions. Transmission Types Manual transmissions require the driver to select the best gear for current driving conditions. Fully Automated Transmissions are manual transmissions that are shifted electronically. This allows gear changes to be controlled by either the driver or the Transmission Control Module, or TCM. Powertrain Packages Each of the transmission offerings have been integrated with a specific engine and drivetrain combination to maximize fuel economy and performance. The ECM and TCM communicate to ensure shifts are optimized to promote smooth shifting and superior fuel economy.

International LT and RH Overview and Walk-around Study Guide 10 Electrical System Introduction Module 2: Electrical System The International LT electrical system is designed to keep the number of wires and connections to a minimum, as well as optimize harness routing and clipping. CAN Communication Many engine monitoring and control systems on the LT are smart modules that communicate on the Controller Area Network, or CAN. This allows multiple vehicle harnesses to be reduced to 4 wires. By supplying Power, Ground, and two CAN wires to each subsection of the vehicle, multiple systems can be monitored without the need for dedicated wiring to each sensor. Battery Locations The battery pack for the LT is located below the steps on the left side of the vehicle. On vehicles with side skirts, a small access door is located behind the top step for testing and charging the batteries. Vehicles without side skirts have a removable battery cover that the top step attaches to. Remote Sense Some vehicles may be equipped with a secondary battery pack, located between the frame rails, just behind the cab. Certain International LT applications feature quick release deck plates to make accessing this battery pack easier. Alternator The International LT uses purpose built alternators that are meant to withstand high heat and last longer when used with hotter running, lower emissions engines.

11 International LT and RH Overview and Walk-Around Study Guide Remote Sense An optional feature available for many of the alternators is the Remote Voltage Sensing System, which allows the alternator to directly monitor the battery voltage. This allows the alternator to optimize the battery state of charge. Module Location The Body Control Module, or BCM, Anti-Lock Brake System, or ABS, controller, and Power Distribution Module, or PDM, are located inside the cab, reducing exposure to heat, cold, and moisture, helping to minimize corrosion. Harnessing The International LT features multiple Controller Area Networks to reduce the amount of wiring needed to operate the vehicle. Reducing wiring also helps to lower vehicle weight and makes service easier. One example of this is the in-cab Power Distribution Module, or PDM, which is positioned to maximize passenger leg room. A large gutter and drain helps to protect the PDM from spills during normal operation. Fusing and Diagnostics All vehicle fuses are in one location, except for the sleeper, which has its own fuse block and dedicated electrical control panel. In addition, all truck programming and fault management works through one portal for both factory and customized solutions. Driver Information Display System fault reporting is improved with text fault descriptions on the LCD screen which communicates with vehicle monitoring systems.

International LT and RH Overview and Walk-around Study Guide 12 Steering System Introduction Module 3: Steering System The steering system on the International LT offers power assist and is customizable for most driver needs. Steering Column The standard Steering Column offers both tilt and telescope functionality, with a stow-away position for easy entry and exit of the vehicle. An optional steering column is available without the telescoping feature. Intermediate Shaft The Steering Intermediate Shaft connects the Steering Column to the Power Steering Gear and features two greaseable, low-lash universal joints, and a greaseable slip joint to reduce vibrations and provide for relative movement between the suspended cab and the chassis. This design requires periodic lubrication at three zerk locations. Steering Gear The Steering Gear is connected to the Steering Intermediate Shaft and the Drag Link. Pressurized hydraulic fluid is used to assist the driver in turning the wheels at low speeds. The Steering Gear in the International LT is designed to offer superior on-center feel and reduce wander.

13 International LT and RH Overview and Walk-Around Study Guide Drag Link The drag link connects the Power Steering Gear to the Steering Arm and has two zerk fittings that require periodic lubrication. Steering Arm The Steering Arm connects the Drag Link to the driver's side steer wheel and has one zerk fitting that requires periodic lubrication. Tie Rod The tie rod is a three-piece assembly consisting of a rod and two end units with spherical joints that connect the steer wheels to each other. The size of the end units depend on the front axle capacity. The tie rod arm length is selected based on vehicle wheelbase to provide optimum tire life when turning. Two grease zerks require periodic lubrication. Power Steering Fluid Reservoir A remotely mounted, see-through container allows drivers and technicians to quickly check the fluid level in the system. Power Steering Pump The Power Steering Pump is an engine mounted, gear driven pump that is used to pressurize the power steering fluid. The pump is selected based on the axle rating and engine ordered. Power Steering Fluid Cooler A remotely mounted Power Steering Fluid Cooler removes excess heat from the power steering fluid before it is returned to the Power Steering Pump, extending the service life of the fluid. Driver Assist Systems

International LT and RH Overview and Walk-around Study Guide 14 ACC and CMS Introduction Module 4: Driver Assist Systems Bendix and WABCO both offer Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and a Collision Mitigation System (CMS) for use on the International LT. These Driver Assist systems should be used in addition to safe and alert driving practices. Bendix Wingman Advanced The standard Driver Assist system is the Bendix Wingman Advanced. This system allows the vehicle to adjust cruise control speeds to maintain a safe following distance behind vehicles ahead of the equipped vehicle. This system also has the ability to detect if a collision is likely, and warn the driver. Under most conditions, the system can slow the vehicle to avoid or reduce the chance of a collision. Omit Option The LT can be ordered without a Collision Mitigation System if the customer selects the Omit option when ordering the vehicle. Bendix Wingman Fusion The Bendix Wingman Fusion system is an optional system that improves on the Bendix Wingman Advanced system. When equipped, the vehicle gains Lane Departure Warning and Vehicle Overspeed Alerts and Action. Lane Departure Warning uses audible tones to alert the driver if the vehicle starts to leave its lane without the turn signal engaged. Overspeed Alerts notify the driver when the vehicle is traveling above the posted speed limit, and can even attempt to briefly slow the vehicle as an alert that the vehicle is traveling over the speed limit.

15 International LT and RH Overview and Walk-Around Study Guide WABCO OnGuard ACTIVE The WABCO OnGuard ACTIVE system detects vehicles in the path of travel and adjusts vehicle speed as needed to maintain following distance and reduce the chance of collisions. Visual and Physical feedback, such as flashing lights and vibrating seats, are used to alert the driver when driver intervention is needed. Bendix Blindspotter The International LT also offers optional side object detection. If equipped, the vehicle can alert the driver when vehicles may be in their passenger side blind spot. Bendix AutoVue 3G Bendix AutoVue 3G is an optional lane departure system that uses a windshield mounted camera to track visible lane markings day or night, and in most weather conditions. When the AutoVue 3G system detects drifting across lane markers without a turn signal being activated, it sounds an alarm to alert the driver to take corrective action. WABCO OnLane Wabco OnLane is an optional Lane Departure System that warns when unintentional lane drifting is detected. A camera is used to monitor and calculate the vehicle s position in the lane. OnLane delivers an audible alarm when crossing lane markings without the turn signal being activated. This can alert the driver to take corrective action preventing potential collisions or run-off-road accidents. Some applications offer video capture when critical events are detected.

International LT and RH Overview and Walk-around Study Guide 16 Vehicle Exterior Introduction Module 4: Vehicle Exterior The exterior of the International LT has been designed with multiple visual and functional features, focusing on fuel efficiency and driver comfort. One example of this is a lower overall vehicle profile that reduces the amount of air traveling below the vehicle. Aero 3-Piece Bumper The International LT features a fixed, 3-piece aerodynamic bumper that is offered in multiple styles. Available options include molded and painted bumpers, both of which have the option of a chrome overlay...in addition to a 1 piece aluminum bumper with plastic filler panels. Bug and Rock Screens The center of the bumper can be equipped with a removable insert that protects the cooling package from bugs and rocks. Aero Front Air Dam An optional air dam can be installed to improve fuel economy by diverting air under and around the vehicle. Aero Contoured Fender Vehicle fenders on the International LT are designed to allow air to easily pass around the side of the vehicle, also improving fuel economy. Aero Contoured Hood The hood is also contoured to smoothly direct air above and around the vehicle. Two molded handles allow for more control when opening and closing the hood.

17 International LT and RH Overview and Walk-Around Study Guide Bumper to Back of Cab All LT models feature a 125-inch Bumper to Back of Cab, or BBC, length while RH models offer a 113-inch BBC length. This allows for more space to perform engine service, as well as improved airflow through the engine compartment. Sealed to Cooling Module The hood has robust seals around the grille as well as at the cowl tray. These seals ensure air does not bypass the cooling package or enter the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, or HVAC, system from the engine compartment. Removable Grille At the front of the hood, the grille insert is held in place with 4 removable and reusable fasteners. This allows for quick and easy service of the grille and bug screen. Air Intake Passages The International LT has air intake passages built into the hood which remove liquid from the intake air before it reaches the air filter. These passages can even keep water out of the engine during power washing and truck washing.

International LT and RH Overview and Walk-around Study Guide 18 Headlights Light Emitting Diode, or LED, headlights are standard equipment on the International LT, but halogen lights are an available option. LED Advantages LED headlights provide superior visibility and service life over halogen options, as well as best in class light pattern and intensity. Bulb Replacement All headlight options use polycarbonate lenses for superior impact resistance and are tightly mounted in the hood to stabilize the light pattern on the road. Assembly Replacement Assembly Replacement The headlights on the International LT are positioned to allow quick and easy bulb replacement without the use of tools. The headlight assemblies can also be easily removed by removing 4 bolts. Mirrors Pedestal and C-Loop mirror styles are available on the International LT, utilizing optimized placement which reduces driver head movement. Both mirror styles feature breakaway capability forward and rearward which minimizes the potential for cab and/or door damage, along with no tools needed glass replacement. Wiring is contained within the mirror components with the wiring harness connecting at the mirror base. Additional optional features include integral dual CB antenna bases...power mirror adjustment...and heated mirror heads. Turn signal indicators are also available on pedestal mirrors. Pedestal mirrors provide additional aerodynamic efficiency while also reducing wind noise in the cab." Mirror glass is held in place with a lock ring that attaches to a mounting hub. To remove the glass, position it all the way to the left. Locate the lock ring release tab on the right rear side of the glass, and move it to the unlocked position. With the mirror glass removed, the Ambient Air Temperature, or AAT, sensor can be accessed. The lock ring release tab is also used to secure the glass to the mounting hub. The LT's 125-inch BBC allows the driver to have a wide field of view in the hood-mounted mirrors, if equipped.

19 International LT and RH Overview and Walk-Around Study Guide Windows Single piece driver and passenger windows allow for optimized placement of the side mirrors and increase visibility. Chassis Skirts Chassis skirts improve air movement along the sides of the vehicle. Air turbulence around the front fender extensions, fuel tanks, battery box, frame access steps and quarter fenders is greatly minimized to increase aerodynamic efficiency and can provide significant improvement in fuel economy. Stair Positioning The lower step on the LT is set into the chassis skirt, which creates a staircase effect to make it easier to enter and exit the vehicle, and reduce the chance of falls. Mounting The front chassis skirts allow access to the battery pack and air tanks on the left, and the aftertreatment system on the right. Each of the front chassis skirts can be removed by removing the 2 inside bolts on each step.

International LT and RH Overview and Walk-around Study Guide 20 DEF System Most of the components for the Diesel Exhaust Fluid, or DEF, system are mounted on the left side of the vehicle, just behind the main battery box. A compact DEF supply module is used to send DEF to the DEF Doser, and then back to the tank. Returning DEF to the tank cools the DEF Doser, improving performance and extending service life. Supply Module The DEF Supply Module has also been designed to promote quick repairs and easy-access filter replacement. Aftertreatment The aftertreatment system on the International LT is located on the right side of the vehicle, behind the stairs. The aftertreatment system is arranged in a straight through design, within a single canister to reduce weight and the space needed for mounting. This also allows easy access to the Diesel Particulate Filter, or DPF.

21 International LT and RH Overview and Walk-Around Study Guide Cab Suspension Introduction Module 5: Cab Suspension The International LT utilizes a cab suspension system that is optimized to provide excellent ride quality and reduce cab interior noise. Front Mounts The front cab mounts are specially tuned rubber bushings that reduce cab interior noise and provide an improved ride. Rear Mounts The rear cab mount is an air suspension with ride tuned shock absorbers, providing excellent ride quality and improved cab durability. Shock absorbers are fully exposed for easy access and service. The airbag mounting assembly is designed for quick removal and replacement. Side to Side Movement A torsion bar also supports the cab, and reduces side-to-side movement.

International LT and RH Overview and Walk-around Study Guide 22 Module 6: HVAC HVAC Introduction The expansion valve type Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, or HVAC, system on the International LT offers excellent driver comfort and serviceability. Vents This HVAC system uses optimized vent locations and air routing to provide powerful heat and air conditioning that can be fully controlled by the driver. Multiple panel vents allow the driver to select where hot and cold air will exit the system. Each of the panel vents can be fully closed, which can be used to optimize the output in a specific location. Standard Rear HVAC International LT Sleeper models come standard with a rear HVAC module, that contains a second Heater Core, Evaporator Core, Blower Motor, and blend door. The rear HVAC module is located on the right side of the vehicle, under the bunk. No-Idle HVAC An optional rear HVAC system upgrade, known as the 12-Volt No-Idle system, offers the ability to heat or cool the sleeper without the engine running. This option adds a second compressor and blower that are specifically used for rear climate control.

23 International LT and RH Overview and Walk-Around Study Guide Control Modules Primary Control Module The primary Control Module for the HVAC system offers the driver complete control over the temperature of the cabin. If desired, the driver can enable the recirculation in all modes except defrost. This includes when the fan is turned off. Rear Control Module The sleeper section of the LT also has HVAC controls that can adjust the rear HVAC settings independently of the cab's HVAC settings. This allows occupants in the sleeper to customize the climate in the sleeper from the bunk. CAN Communication Both of the HVAC Control Modules on the LT communicate over a dedicated CAN and offer diagnostic and reporting capabilities. This allows the system to detect and report any faults. The HVAC system can also communicate with other vehicle modules through the Body Control Module, or BCM. MAX A/C Air recirculation is enabled when the HVAC control module is set to MAX A/C. When selected, the system adjusts the temperature, vent output, and fan speed to maximize the performance of the Air Conditioning system. Any changes the driver makes to the settings after selecting this mode will override the preset settings. MAX Defrost Air recirculation is disabled when the HVAC control module is set to MAX Defrost. When selected, the system adjusts the temperature, vent output, and fan speed to shorten the time needed to defrost the windows. Any changes the driver makes to the settings after selecting this mode will override the preset settings. A/C Pressure/Temperature Transducer The International LT is equipped with an A/C Pressure / Temperature Transducer that monitors the Air Conditioning system for signs of a leak and provides early warning. If a leak is detected, a fault code will be set and the driver will be alerted. To prevent damage to the system, the BCM will also disable the A/C compressor when low refrigerant levels are detected. The system can only be re-enabled using Diamond Logic Builder, or DLB.

International LT and RH Overview and Walk-around Study Guide 24 HVAC Serviceability Fresh Air Filter The HVAC system on the International LT is also optimized for ease of service. All LT models are equipped with a Fresh Air HVAC Filter that removes particulates from the outside air drawn through the HVAC system. The filter is located in the HVAC inlet module in the engine compartment. Recirculation Filter When operating in recirculation mode, particulates are removed from the air by a single filter that can be accessed by removing the PDM. HVAC Refrigerant Seals The HVAC system on the LT is designed to minimize connection points, which reduces the chance for leaks. Robust seals at each connection further reduce the chance for leaks. Integrated Receiver Dryer A serviceable Receiver Dryer is integrated into the condenser to further reduce connection points within the Air Conditioning system. A plug on the bottom of the condenser allows access to the dryer and filter. Actuator Access The HVAC system on the International LT uses 5 actuators to select between the defrost, floor, and panel vents as well as enable recirculation and adjust the air temperature. All of the actuators, except for the panel actuator, are positioned to be serviced with the instrument panel in place. The engine cover can also be accessed with the floor vents and HVAC module in place. Component Replacement The major components of the system have also been optimized to make servicing the system easier. One example of this is the evaporator core, which can be accessed from the engine compartment once the HVAC Fresh Air Inlet Module is removed. The Heater Core and Blower Motor can also be easily replaced inside the cab after removing the kick panel. Optional Cab Heater Shutoff Valve An optional heater shut-off valve provides the ability to shut off coolant flow to the heater and keep the cabin cool. This valve can also be used to isolate the heater from the engine, should service become necessary.

25 International LT and RH Overview and Walk-Around Study Guide Gauge Cluster Module 7: Vehicle Interior The LT is the first vehicle to incorporate the newly designed interior from International. The first example of this is the Electronic Gauge Cluster, or EGC. There are two versions of the EGC available, a base option, and a premium option. Both EGCs are designed to be fully visible through the steering wheel. The main difference is the addition of the upgraded, full-color Liquid Crystal Display, or LCD, screen in the middle of the premium Gauge Cluster. Premium Gauge Cluster The Premium EGC is the standard option on the International LT and can be navigated by using a controller on the right side of the steering wheel, just above the ignition switch, known as the Cluster Display Control, or CDC. The LCD screen can be used to view the status of collision mitigation systems, vehicle alerts, and tire pressure. In addition, virtual gauges can be selected by the operator to display additional sensor data on the LCD screen. Base Gauge Cluster The optional Base Level EGC utilizes a screen that displays essential vehicle information, such as distance to empty for fuel and Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), language settings.and fault code information. These options can be selected, cycled, and reset by using the push button in the bottom right corner of the EGC, near the DEF level gauge.

International LT and RH Overview and Walk-around Study Guide 26 Door Pods CAN Communication Each door contains a CAN controlled module that controls the windows and locks, called a door pod. The Driver's door pod controls all windows and locks, while the passenger door pod can control only control one window and the door locks. Remote Keyless Entry The Remote Keyless Entry system on the International LT allows occupants to lock and unlock the doors from outside the vehicle. When a button on the remote is pressed, a signal is sent to a receiver in the passenger door pod. A maximum of 6 remotes can be paired with a single door pod. Light Control Module The International LT features a Light Control Module, or LCM, which incorporates all light controls into one central location. This one module allows the driver to dim the interior lights, turn on the work light, or turn on the headlamps, and fog lamps if equipped. Lamp check Feature The LCM also has a Lamp Check feature, which allows drivers or technicians to safely check all exterior lamps without assistance from another person. Pushing the top of the LAMP CHECK switch enables this feature. When enabled, the Body Control Module will power on the headlights and high beams. After a few seconds, the right turn signal will be turned on, followed by the left turn signal. Next the brake lights are powered on...and then finally the work light. The Lamp Check will repeat until the bottom of the LAMP CHECK switch is pressed, the brake pedal is depressed, or the programmed timer has ended.

27 International LT and RH Overview and Walk-Around Study Guide Turn Signal Module On the left side of the steering wheel is the Multi-Function Turn Signal Switch. This lever is used to control the turn signals, as well as the high beam headlights, windshield wipers, and washer fluid. Intermittent wiper operation is also available. Stalk Shifter Models equipped with automated or automatic transmissions will have a Stalk Shifter on the right side of the steering wheel. A knob can be rotated to select Reverse, Neutral, Drive, or Low Gear if equipped. If the vehicle is also equipped with a Premium EGC, the virtual prindle on the left side of the screen will match the order of the layout on the Stalk Shifter. Engine Brake The Stalk Shifter can be moved up or down to select the desired level of engine braking. There are options for OFF, LEVEL 1, LEVEL 2, and LEVEL 3. The engine brake will be applied at the selected level whenever the accelerator pedal is not depressed. Manual Shifting The end of the Stalk Shifter has a button that can be depressed to toggle between manual and automatic transmission shifting. When in manual shifting mode, the shifter can be pulled toward the driver to upshift, or pushed away from the driver to downshift. The system defaults to automatic shifting mode when the vehicle is powered on. Steering Wheel Controls Mounted on the steering wheel are controls for cruise control, exterior lamp interrupters, and radio or phone controls. Center Console The center console on the International LT is angled more toward the driver, for easier access to controls and switches. Multiple switch packs can be installed for increased customization and control. Trailer Brake A lever in the center of the console operates the trailer brake when pulled down.
