1 FED ALL WARNING : 1. Equipment and Materials KRUEGER FLAP ACTUATOR - LANDING GEAR - MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETIES AND CHOCKS ARE IN POSITION. FLIGHT CONTROLS - MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETIES AND NOTICES ARE IN POSITION. FLIGHT CONTROLS - MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE CONTROL SURFACES ARE CLEAR. HYDRAULICS - BEFORE YOU PRESSURIZE THE SYSTEM, MAKE SURE THAT THE CONTROL SURFACE POSITIONS AND THE FLIGHT CONTROL POSITIONS ARE THE SAME. MAKE SURE THAT YOU ISOLATE THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS UPON WHICH WORK IS IN PROGRESS. OBEY THE PRECAUTIONS GIVEN IN (Ref , P. Block 301 ), WHEN YOU WORK WITH HYDRAULIC FLUIDS. ITEM DESIGNATION A. Procedure (Ref. Fig. 401 ) A. Job Set-Up (1) Open, safety and tag the following circuit breakers: FED , ,420, ,428, ,443, PANEL SERVICE IDENT. LOCATION 127VU FLT CTL/ SLATS line 704 Page 2 of 11

WARNING : EXTENDING THE KRUEGER FLAP VIA THE SELECTOR SOLENOID VALVE WILL CAUSE THE AILERON TO DROOP BY 10 DEG. (3) If necessary, pressurize the Green hydraulic system (Ref , P. Block 301 ). Open main gear main door (Ref , P. Block 301 ). Locate Krueger selector solenoid valve (50 CV), STA2612 (FRAME 47) and press button II on solenoid II to extend krueger flap. NOTE : If the slats are positioned at 15 deg or greater, the Krueger flap will already be extended and step 2.A.(3) will not be necessary. (4) Depressurize the green hydraulic system (Ref , P. Block 301 ). (5) Position access platform. (6) Open access door 513(613)NL. (7) Insert the rigging pin PN 98A thru rib 2B and the outboard bracket (11). (8) Open access door 513(613)RL. B. Removal (1) Remove the lockwasher (12) and the nut (13) (Ref , P. Block 001 ) : - use the extraction tool PN SL to remove the lockwasher Page 3 of 11
4 - (12). - use the notched wrench PN SL to remove the nut (13). (2) Withdraw the bolt (10) from the bracket (11) and the actuator rod end (22) and allow the actuator to pivot. (3) Remove the screws (6), the washers (7) and the cover assembly (5). (4) Put a container under the actuator to collect any hydraulic fluid. Disconnect the lines (8) and (9) from the actuator. Cap open line ends. (5) Remove nut (3), bolt (1), washer (2) and disconnect bonding lead (15) from actuator. (6) Cut and remove the lockwire from the bolts (4). Manually support the actuator (dry weight 9.4 kg (20.72 lb)) and remove the bolts (4). Collect the shims (14), if installed, and remove the actuator from the mountings (16). C. Preparation of Replacement Component (1) Use a clean lint-free cotton cloth made moist with cleaning agent (Material No ) to clean the component, interface and adjacent area. (2) Do a visual inspection of the component, interface and adjacent area. D. Installation CAUTION : CAUTION : IT IS NOT PERMITTED TO ADJUST THE STROKE OF THE ACTUATOR. BEFORE YOU INSTALL AN ACTUATOR PN 094B , YOU MUST EXAMINE THE LOCKWIRE BETWEEN THE LOCKNUT (19) AND THE WASHER (18). IF THE LOCKWIRE IS BROKEN OR MISSING, YOU MUST SEND THE ACTUATOR TO THE OVERHAUL SHOP FOR VERIFICATION OF THE HYDRAULIC LOCKING FUNCTION. (1) Position actuator in Krueger box against mountings (16) with hydraulic connections on inboard side in LH wing and on outboard side in RH wing. (2) Install bolts (4), do not safety at this stage. Do not install shims (14). Page 4 of 11
5 (3) Remove caps from hydraulic connections then connect lines (8) (9) to actuator. (4) Connect bonding lead (15) to actuator using washer (2), bolt (1) and nut (3) (Ref , P. Block 001 ). (5) Remove hydraulic fluid container. (6) Support actuator to allow retraction without obstruction. (7) Pressurize the Green hydraulic system (Ref , P. Block 301 ). (8) On Krueger selector solenoid valve press button on solenoid II to make sure actuator is fully retracted. (9) Depressurize green hydraulic system (Ref , P. Block 301 ). (10) Make sure that the Krueger flap is fully extended and secured with the rigging pin PN 98A (11) Apply grease (Material No ) to the bolt (10). (12) Align the actuator rod-end (22) with the outboard bracket assy (11) then insert the bolt (10) with the head on the inboard side. If the bolt (10) cannot be inserted, do the procedures in step (13) or step (14) to obtain the correct alignment of the actuator rod-end (22) with the outboard bracket assy (11). CAUTION : THE BOLT (10) HEAD MUST BE ON THE INBOARD SIDE OF THE OUTBOARD BRACKET ASSY. (13) Adjustment using the actuator rod-end and shims. (a) (b) (c) If necessary, cut and remove the lockwire from the locknut (17) and the actuator rod-end (22). Discard the lockwire. NOTE : If the actuator is a replacement or has been to the overhaul shop, the locknut (17) will not be safetied with lockwire. Use the spanner PNA W2 to loosen the locknut (17). Pull the lockwasher (21) clear of the piston rod (20). Turn the actuator rod-end (22) thru steps of 180 deg. until the bolt (10) can easily be Page 5 of 11
6 (d) inserted thru the outboard bracket (11) and the actuator rod-end (22). If turning the actuator rod-end (22) thru 180 deg. is too much of an adjustment: - support the actuator, remove the bolts (4) and insert shims (14) of equal thickness, as necessary under each trunnion, to give the required adjustment. Install the bolts (4) and insert the bolt (10) thru the outboard bracket (11) and the actuator rod-end (22). (14) Adjustment using the actuator piston rod. (a) (b) (c) If necessary cut and remove the lockwire from the locknut (17) and the actuator rod-end (22). Discard the lockwire. NOTE : If the actuator is a replacement or has been to the overhaul shop, the locknut (17) will not be safetied with lockwire. Use the spanner PNA W2 to loosen the locknut (17). Pull the lockwasher (21) clear of the piston rod (20). Hold the rod-end (22) and turn the piston rod (20) thru steps of 90 deg. until the bolt (10) can easily be inserted thru the outboard bracket (11) and the actuator rod-end (22). (15) Install the nut (13) then use the notched wrench PN SL to TORQUE the nut (13) to 60 lbf.ft (8.13 m.dan) (Ref (Ref , P. Block 001 ). Do not fit the lockwasher (12) at this stage. (16) Remove the rigging pin PN 98A (17) Pressurize the Green hydraulic system (Ref (Ref , P. Block 301 ). (18) Make sure that the Krueger flap trailing edge does not touch the Krueger box fixed structure. Make sure that continuous contact is maintained between the Krueger flap trailing edge seal and the Krueger box fixed structure (Ref , P. Block 401 ). WARNING : RETRACTING THE KRUEGER FLAP VIA THE SELECTOR SOLENOID VALVE WILL CAUSE THE AILERON TO RISE BY 10 DEG. Page 6 of 11
7 (19) On Krueger selector solenoid valve press button I on solenoid I to retract the Krueger flaps and make sure flap functions freely without obstruction. (20) Check that Krueger flap is faired with wing and within the into and out-of-wind tolerances. If necessary adjust (Ref , P. Block 401 ). WARNING : EXTENDING THE KRUEGER FLAP VIA THE SELECTOR SOLENOID VALVE WILL CAUSE THE AILERON TO DROOP BY 10 DEG. (21) On Krueger selector solenoid valve press button II on solenoid II to extend the Krueger flap. (22) Depressurize the green hydraulic system (Ref , P. Block 301 ). Examine actuator, hydraulic pipelines and unions for signs of leakage. Leakage is not acceptable. Page 7 of 11
8 (23) Using spanner PN A W2, TORQUE locknut (17) to between and lbf.ft (16.2 and 16.7 m.dan) then safety to actuator rod-end (22) with lockwire. (24) Apply sealant (Material No ) to the locknut (17). (25) TORQUE the bolts (4) to between 370 and 410 LB-IN. (4.18 and 4.6 m.dan). (26) Safety bolts (4) together with lockwire. (27) Use the installation tool PN SL to safety the lockwasher (12) to the nut (13) (Ref , P. Block 001 ). (28) Position cover assembly (5) and secure with washers (7) and screws (6). E. Preparation for Test (1) Remove safety clips and tags and on panel 127VU close SLATS circuit breakers on line 704, and circuit breaker 45CV. (2) Energize aircraft electrical network (Ref , P. Block 301 ). Make certain that electronics racks are ventilated (Ref , P. Block 301 ). (3) Pressurize Green hydraulic system (Ref , P. Block 301 ). (4) Open, safety and tag the following circuit breakers: PANEL SERVICE IDENT. LOCATION 127VU FLT CTL/FLAPS SYS 1 26VAC 1CV 705/L63 127VU FLT CTL/FLAPS SYS 2 26VAC 2CV 705/L67 127VU FLT CTL/FLAPS SYS 1 SFCC AND CTL SUPPLY NORM 5CV 705/L65 127VU FLT CTL/FLAPS SYS 2 SFCC AND CTL SUPPLY NORM 6CV 705/L66 127VU FLT CTL/FLAPS SYS 1 SFCC AND CTL SUPPLY LAND RECOVERY 10CV 705/L64 F. Test WARNING : FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES - MAKE CERTAIN TRAVEL RANGE IS CLEAR. Page 8 of 11
9 (1) Perform the following: ACTION 1. Fully extend slats and Krueger flap (Ref , P. Block 301 ). 2. Fully retract slats and Krueger flap (Ref , P. Block 301 ). 3. Depressurize Green hydraulic system. (Ref , P. Block 301 ). RESULT Slats and Krueger flap extend and aileron droops. NOTE : With Krueger flap fully extended, actuator is hydraulically locked in retracted position. Slats and Krueger flap retract and aileron moves to neutral position. Krueger flap is held in retracted position by mechanical lock in actuator. Page 9 of 11
10 G. Close-up (1) Close the main gear main-door (Ref , P. Block 301 ). (2) De-energize aircraft electrical network (Ref , P. Block 301 ). (3) Make sure that the working area is clean and clear of tools and all other items of equipment. (4) Close access door 513(613)RL. (5) Close access door 513(613)NL. (6) Remove access platform. (7) Remove safety clips and tags, and close circuit breakers 2CV, 6CV, 5CV, 10CV and 1CV. (8) Remove warning notice. Page 10 of 11
