2 1. MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS 1.1. USER INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILTERS This pressure unit must only be operated in conjunction with a machine or a system. The pressure unit must only be used in accordance with the requirements of the operating instructions of the machine or system. Repair, maintenance work and commissioning must only be carried out by trained personnel. Ensure the pressure unit has cooled down before handling. The stipulations of the operating instructions of the machine or the system must be followed. Danger : pressure unit! Before any work is carried out on the pressure unit, ensure the pressure chamber concerned (filter housing) is depressurized. When working on, or in the vicinity of, hydraulic systems, naked flames, spark generation and smoking are forbidden. Hydraulic oils and water polluting fluids must not be allowed to enter the soil or watercourses or sewerage systems. Please ensure safe and environmentally friendly disposal of hydraulic oils. The relevant regulations in the country concerned with regard to ground water pollution, used oil and waste must be complied with. This pressure unit must only be operated with hydraulic or lubricating fluid. The user must, by appropriate action (e.g. venting), prevent the formation of air pockets. Danger On no account must any alterations (welding, drilling, or opening by force ) be carried out on the pressure unit. It is the responsibility of the operator to comply with the water regulations of the country concerned. Whenever work is carried out on the filter, be prepared for hot oil to escape which can cause injury or scalding due to high pressure or high temperature. Filter housing must be earthed. Statutory accident prevention regulations, safety regulations and safety data sheets for fluids must be observed. Danger When using electrical clogging indicators, before removing the clogging indicator connector the electrical power supply to the system must be switched off. 2

3 1.2. INSTALLATION Before fitting the filter into the system check that the operating pressure of the system does not exceed the permissible operating pressure of the filter. See type code label on the filter! 1.3. COMMISSIONING Check that the correct filter cartridge(s) is/are screwed on firmly TOOLS REQUIRED FOR MAINTENANCE Strap wrench Seal on MA model Note: On this model the seal must be fitted into the filter head. 4 2. MAINTENANCE 2.1. GENERAL This section describes maintenance work which must be carried out periodically. The operational safety and life expectancy of the filter, and whether it is ready for use, depend to a large degree on regular and careful maintenance. 3. CHANGING THE CARTRIDGE 1. Unscrew filter cartridge anti-clockwise using a strap wrench MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES Spare parts must fulfil the technical requirements specified by the manufacturer. This is always guaranteed for HYDAC original spare parts. Keep tools, working area and equipment clean. When changing a filter element a high level of cleanliness must be observed! 2.3. INTERVAL BETWEEN CARTRIDGE CHANGES We recommend fitting the filter with a clogging indicator (pressure gauge or pressure switch, vacuum gauge or vacuum switch) to monitor the filter cartridge. If the clogging indicator responds, it is necessary to change the filter cartridge without delay. If the pressure gauge is indicating 2 bar (or 0.2 bar on a vacuum gauge) it is also necessary to change the filter cartridge. Filter cartridge type MA: 2. Lubricate seal and fit it into the filter head. 3. Screw on the cartridge until contact is made with the sealing surface, then tighten by hand by another half to full turn. 4. Do not overtighten! Filter cartridge type MG/MU: 2. Lubricate seal and fit it into the filter cartridge. 3. Screw on the cartridge until contact is made with the sealing surface, then tighten by hand by another half to full turn. 4. Do not overtighten! 4
