The function is a customer option for refuse collection trucks fitted with a foot plate. When the foot plate is activated according to this description, the function protects personnel on the foot plate. The function complies with EU standard EN Further information on EN and the full text of the standard can be obtained from each country's standards organisation. The function requires the Foot plate (3820B) option which means the vehicle is prepared at the factory for foot plate. The option meets the following requirements in the EU standard: The highest possible speed of the vehicle is limited to 30 km/h when the foot plate is activated. The vehicle cannot be reversed intentionally when the foot plate is activated. For vehicles manufactured after the Foot plate type (7274) option is also required. The option consists of 2 alternatives that meet the same requirements as the Foot plate (3820B) described above. Active reverse gear (7274A). Active irrespective of gear (7274B). This alternative also meets the following requirements: The vehicle cannot unintentionally roll backwards when someone is standing on the foot plate as the service brake is applied automatically when the vehicle is getting near stationary. WARNING! The starter lock must be in the drive position for the function that prevents unintentional rolling backwards to work. If the starter lock is in the locked or radio position, the vehicle can start rolling backwards on, for example, an uphill slope. The parking brake must be applied before the starter lock is turned to the locked or radio position. 22: Issue 3 en-gb 1 (14)
Note: If the vehicle is not equipped with the Active irrespective of gear option, the vehicle should be equipped with Hill hold to reduce the risk of unintentional rolling backwards. More information on the different options is found under the heading Chassis conditions. 22: Issue 3 en-gb 2 (14)
Behaviour When the foot plate is activated, the function prevents reversing in the following ways: The service brake is applied when reverse gear is engaged. On vehicles with automatic gearbox or Opticruise, reverse gear cannot be engaged. Alternatively, reverse gear is disengaged at the same time as the engine returns to idling regardless of the position of the accelerator pedal. If it has not been possible to prevent reverse gear being engaged the engine will shut down. On vehicles with manual gearboxes, the engine will shut down when reverse gear is engaged. If the vehicle is equipped with the Active irrespective of gear option, the vehicle will automatically apply the brakes when the vehicle is stationary. This prevents unintentional rolling backwards. The brakes will remain applied until an action is made to drive the vehicle forwards. If reversing has been prevented, the driver must select neutral before the vehicle can be used again, regardless of whether the foot plate is activated or not. 22: Issue 3 en-gb 3 (14)
For automatic gearboxes and Opticruise Alternative 1: Foot plate activated when vehicle is stationary The following happens: The driver receives an indication via the instrument cluster that the foot plate has been activated, see illustration. The speed is limited to the set value according to the Foot plate, speed limit, parameter. If the driver tries to engage reverse gear, the service brake is applied, the engine returns to idling and the gear change is blocked. If the vehicle is equipped with the Active irrespective of gear option, the service brake is applied until an action is made to drive the vehicle forwards. 20 Foot plate Active 11: km 20 C : Issue 3 en-gb 4 (14)
Alternative 2: Foot plate activated when vehicle is reversing The following happens: The driver receives an indication via the instrument cluster that the foot plate has been activated, see illustration. If the vehicle is reversed at a vehicle speed below 5 km/h, the engine speed drops to idling, reverse gear is disengaged and the service brake is applied. If the vehicle is reversed faster than 5 km/h, the engine speed drops to idling and reverse gear is disengaged. When the vehicle speed falls below 5 km/h, the service brake is applied. WARNING! Jumping onto the foot plate when the vehicle is reversing will result in a great risk of personal injury from falling. Personnel should always be instructed to move away from reversing vehicles. 20 Foot plate Active 11: km 20 C Note: Opticruise with clutch pedal: If the reverse gear cannot be disengaged due to heavy load on the powertrain, the engine is shut down 2 seconds after the foot plate has been activated. 22: Issue 3 en-gb 5 (14)
For manual gearbox Alternative 1: Foot plate activated when vehicle is stationary The following happens: The driver receives an indication via the instrument cluster that the foot plate has been activated, see illustration. The speed is limited to the set value according to the Foot plate, speed limit, parameter. If the driver tries to engage reverse gear, the service brake is applied and the engine is shut down. If the vehicle is equipped with the Active irrespective of gear option, the service brake is applied until an action is made to drive the vehicle forwards. 20 Foot plate Active 11: km 20 C : Issue 3 en-gb 6 (14)
Alternative 2: Foot plate activated when vehicle is reversing The following happens: The driver receives an indication via the instrument cluster that the foot plate has been activated, see illustration. If the vehicle speed falls below 5 km/h, the service brake is applied and the engine is shut down. If the vehicle is reversed faster than 5 km/h the engine speed drops to idling. When the vehicle speed falls below 5 km/h, the service brake is applied and the engine is shut down. WARNING! Jumping onto the foot plate when the vehicle is reversing will result in a great risk of personal injury from falling. Personnel should always be instructed to move away from reversing vehicles. 20 Foot plate Active 11: km 20 C Activation The function can be activated via BIC (Bodywork Interface Configuration) and External CAN. 22: Issue 3 en-gb 7 (14)
