1 General information on weighing equipment General information on weighing equipment Weighing the vehicle s load can be done in different ways depending on, among other things, use, type of bodywork or type of suspension. This document describes the following: Installation of separate weighing cells Weighing and installation via the vehicle s air suspension system Installation of weighing cells Most types of weighing cells are designed to be placed between the chassis frame and subframe or between the chassis frame and bodywork. Example, see illustration. The number of weighing cells depends on where they are installed and the type of bodywork attachment. More information on subframes and frame material is found in the document Chassis frames. 2 Weighing cells between the chassis frame and subframe or chassis frame and bodywork. The attachments to the chassis frame must be the same regardless of whether the truck has a subframe or not. Follow the instructions for attachments on refuse collection trucks without subframe for reference, regardless of the bodywork type. Installation of weighing cells Example: On installation of weighing cells between the chassis frame and subframe in demountable body trucks, the number of weighing cells and their location must be the same as the frame brackets on refuse collection trucks. Weighing cells between subframe and bodywork When installing weighing cells between the bodywork and subframe, the attachment of the bodywork to the chassis frame must be designed in accordance with the description for the current application. 1. Weighing cells Alternative location and fewer weighing cells To be able to read off the weight of the load when necessary, it is possible to use fewer weighing cells on certain vehicle types. The weighing cells can, for example, be fitted in the bodywork s tipper section and in the hydraulic cylinders on bulk tankers and demountable body trucks. The weight is shown in a separate display. This type of placement is permitted as the weighing cells are not integrated into any frame attachment. As the bodywork rests on the chassis frame in a lowered position, the bodywork must be raised so that it is free below it when weighing the load. Scania CV AB 2016, Sweden 2 (5)
3 Weighing functions for vehicles with air suspension In addition to separate weighing cells there are other alternatives for displaying the weight of vehicles with air suspension Weighing function via the vehicle s CAN Weighing function via the vehicle s CAN is reliable and easy to use. The load weight, axle weight or gross weight can be read off digitally and it is possible to zero the system. The measurement accuracy is ±300 kg. Example, see illustration. 4 Installation of CAN at the factory For vehicles with air suspension, an option to read off the current axle weight and load weight directly in the instrument cluster is available. Option Alternative Variant code Axle weight display Front and rear 2478A Rear 2478B The axle weight is measured via the vehicle s CAN using the air suspension and can be read off continuously. It is also possible to connect a separate display afterwards. Connecting CAN afterwards For vehicles with air suspension it is possible to retrofit a separate display to read off the current axle weight and the load weight inside or outside the cab. This type of weight display requires installation and programming of external weighing equipment. The axle weight is measured via the vehicle s CAN using the air suspension and can be read off continuously. Scania CV AB 2016, Sweden 4 (5)
5 Weight gauges for outside weight indication Connection of weight gauges directly to the vehicle s air suspension system can be done afterwards. The system does not have as good a measurement accuracy as weighing by CAN. Calibration must be done manually. Refer to the illustration for an example of weight gauges connected to the air suspension system. The weight gauge is a type of manometer which gives a reference value when loading by displaying the change in weight caused by the load. Connect a weight gauge at each axle.
