1 PRESS info P12602EN / Per-Erik Nordström June 2012 Scania at Eurosatory 2012 Maximum modularity tailored solutions are standard Scania's strategy of continuously refining its products means that the truck range is tougher and more adaptable than ever: Specifications can be tailored precisely to specific needs, including wheel configurations, cabs and protection systems, as well as fuel compatibility. Recent enhancements further improve load-carrying capacity and mobility. Ease-of-driving and comfort are Scania hallmarks and driver training can be included in any deal. Servicing is available either via the global Scania Service Network or tailored Scania Field Workshops. Scania trucks are renowned for their performance, operating economy and long service life. Low weight combined with robust design means that more cargo can be carried on a Scania vehicle without compromising durability. Technically permissible weights often exceed plated weights, offering a useful margin that boosts service life. This is a significant advantage for peacekeeping and defence missions, since a strictly standard truck from Scania will be an ideal solution for a large variety of specialised applications. Cabs protected against ballistic, anti-tank mine and IED threats can be provided if required. Scania s dense service network and modular component system result in less downtime if attention is required. If the complete vehicle is supplied by Scania, Scania also ensures the availability of bodywork parts and servicing (solutions differ between markets). Scania Field Workshops can be set up on a site for temporary or permanent use. Scania always focuses on the driver and on the driver environment to provide maximum support for safe and efficient driving. A truck that is easy to drive will enable the driver to focus on the mission instead of on vehicle handling. Customised training can be provided for drivers as well as mechanics. 2 2 (5) Heavy-duty truck features Off-road trucks. Based on the Scania P- or G-series trucks and with extra robust frontal styling and various sturdy components and protective devices, the new range of Scania Off-road trucks are able to withstand intense and unavoidable pounding without unnecessary downtime for repairs. Integrated in the bumper is a strong tow pin with a capacity of 35 tonnes (10 tonnes more than the standard item), allowing the vehicle to be towed out of trouble without the need to unload in most situations. Automated gearchanging. Scania Opticruise pioneered automated gearchanging in 1995 and has been continuously refined since then. One of the leading systems on the market, it now features fully automatic function, including clutch operation, exceptionally precise manoeuvring and operating modes for various types of operation, including off-road driving, hill-hold, etc. Easy difflock manoeuvring. The differential locks are controlled by a rotary switch that engages them in the right sequence with clear status indication for the driver in the central instrument. The rotary switch also controls the vehicle s traction control, which can be set to normal mode or off-road mode with extra slip permitted. Retarder braking. The Scania Retarder, introduced in 1993, is integrated in the functioning of both the braking and gearchanging systems. Already one of the most powerful retarders on the market, an additional version was recently introduced with greatly enhanced low-speed performance. Progressive parabolic springs. In addition to multi-leaf springs, Scania offers light and progressive parabolic springs for axles and bogies with or without hub reduction, the bogies rated at up to 32 tonnes. Front axles are rated at up to 10 tonnes, also in multi-axle configurations. Heavy-duty air suspension. Scania offers various heavy-duty air suspension setups. Air-suspended front axles are rated at up to 9 tonnes. Air-suspended tandem bogies are rated at up to 26 tonnes with hub reduction.

3 3 (5) Bodywork options Scania offers a wide range of factory preparations for easy bodybuilding, e.g. predrilled hole patterns, customised rear end for tipper trucks, drawbeams, electric and pneumatic trailer connections, pneumatic as well as analogue and CAN-bus-based electrical connections for bodywork and equipment. A modularised set of wet kits (power take-off and a choice of different hydraulic pumps, tanks and connections) is available. Customised lighting is also available, including rotating beacons, side marker lamps, working lights, rear warning lights, and extra running lights. Equipment options range from sideskirts and underrun protection to mudguards for all axles and chassis-mounted storage. Scania supplies complete vehicles to customers in many countries and in many cases, Scania assumes responsibility for servicing to secure maximum uptime for operators. Three cab ranges cater for all needs Scania G-series is a versatile truck range, with easy entry and exit and responsive handling. Scania P-series has particularly easy entry and exit and more compact cab dimensions that provide extra space for bodywork. Scania R-series provides maximum space and enables Scania's legendary V8 engines to be specified. For maximum cargo space, the short cab is ideal. The slightly longer day cab offers more storage behind the seats and an optional folding bunk for resting. Sleeper cabs in several roof heights are available, including a low roof option that leaves extra space for bodywork above the cab. The structure is all steel and they have been crash-tested and approved according to European and Swedish cab safety standards. Engines from 230 to 730 hp A wide choice of Euro 3, Euro 4, Euro 5, EEV and Euro 6 engines is available, with a choice of EGR or SCR emission technologies for Euro 5 and EEV, SCR for Euro 4 and a combination of the two for Euro 6. The engines can operate on biodiesel (with special maintenance demands) and can be adapted to run on special NATO fuel. Engines for ethanol and gas operation are also available. Scania engines are designed to deliver exceptionally high torque at very low revs, which makes for relaxed and economical driving with few gearchanges. The engines are fully modularised, with components and systems shared between the different series. This facilitates servicing, staff training and parts supply. The modular design facilitates repairs and parts supply. Transfer boxes for all-wheel-drive vehicles are available in several configurations and strength ratings. The overdrive gearbox can be specified to limit on-road cruising revs and for particularly demanding conditions. Automatic protection against clutch abuse is provided as standard by an electronic function that limits engine revs when starting.

5 5 (5) The optional Scania Retarder is fitted at the rear of the gearbox, controlled either automatically via the brake pedal or manually with a lever on the steering column. The system also uses the exhaust brake to further boost braking power. Scania Opticruise is an optional automated gearchanging system that facilitates driving and markedly reduces the risk of driver error. A special driving mode is adapted for off-road driving. The system is fitted to a standard mechanical gearbox, which makes for easy servicing and parts supply. Automatic gearboxes in several strength ratings are available on special request. Power take-offs can be fitted in several positions and with different gear ratios. Some operate independently of clutch and gearbox.
