2 Analogue Meters With Moving - Iron Movement - DE Movement Moving iron movement has pivots of very high hardness.movement is suspended between spring loaded saphire jewels. Movement is critically damped by use of silicon oil Application The moving iron, panel meters,de 48/72/96/144 housed in moulded polycarbonate cases are suitable for the measurement of AC currents and voltages in the usual frequency range of Hz. Moving iron meters indicate rms-values practically independent of waveform even of high harmonic. Error of indication may occur for extreme waveforms (e.g. phase gating controls) & for frequencies above 1kHz. waveforms ( e.g. phase gating controls) and for frequencies above 1kHz. These meters offer several advantages in switchboards and Generating Set Panels. Number of meters can be mounted in a single Cut out (Mosaic mounting). For CT operated ammeters, dials can be fitted based on CT ratio. Front window glass and bezel can be easily replaced. 10 Analogue Maximum Demand Ammeters with Bimetallic Movement, Combined Bimetallic and Moving - Iron Ammeter Application The maximum demand ammeters BM/EB 72/96 housed in moulded polycarbonate cases,monitor the most economic use of transformer stations & LT distribution feeders by indicating the thermal/time characteristics of the load. The high torque of the thermal movement drive a red slave pointer linked to the instrument pointer. The slave pointer will remain at the maximum value reached for a subsequent reading until being manually reset by a sealable reset knob to the position of the instrument pointer. Where the instantaneous and maximum demand currents are required, the EB 72/96 instrument,which combines a thermal bimetallic and a moving - iron movement in the same case mounted diagonally opposite to each other. These instruments are suitable for frequency range of 15-4Hz. These meters offer several advantages in Switchboard and Generating Set panels. Functional Principle The thermal bimetallic movement indicates the mean rms value over 15 minutes (optional 8 min & 2 min.) and deflects a resettable red slave pointer which shows the maximum value reached. Bimetallic instruments have a specific inertia due to their thermal time lag making these instruments especially suitable to indicate maximum demands or to control long - lasting peak loads. For the measurement of instantaneous rms values, a moving - iron movement with pivot suspension, spring loaded shock absorbing jewel bearing and silicon oil damping is incorported. The moving - iron movment has a response time of approx 1s. 14 Analogue Pointer - Type Frequency Meter Application The pointer type frequency meters, FM 48/72 / 96/144 housed in moulded polycarbonate cases are suitable for the measurement of frequencies in the range of 45 to 45 Hz. For maximum accuracy, the essential measuring range is obtained by supressing the unwanted frequency span. These instruments offer several advantages in switchboard and Generating Set Panels. Number of meters can be mounted in a single Cut out (Mosaic mounting). Front glass, Bezel & Dial can be easily replaced. Functional Principle Frequencies are measured with a built in electronic transducer & moving coil indicator. Moving coil movement has pivots of very high hardness. Movement is suspended between spring loaded saphire jewels. Movement is properly shielded & critically damped by eddy currents induced in coil former. 28 Application The Electronic Synchroscope is designed to provide an illuminated indication of actual phase difference between the BUS Voltage(reference voltage) & the GENERATOR Voltage(incoming voltage) It denotes the actual frequency difference corresponding to the inverse of time taken for one rotation of the illuminated vector spot. When two alternators are paralleled,it is necessary that, 1)Frequency must be equal. 2)Phase must be same. Sychroscope is,hence used to indicate the Phase & Frequency difference between two AC alternators,which are to be paralleled. Description he rotation of the vector spot is with reference to the bus voltage. If the vector spot LED turns clockwise,it indicates the GENERATOR frequency is greater than the BUS frequency. It means the speed of the generator must be reduced by the operator. If the spot LED turns anticlockwise,the GENERATOR frequency is less than BUS frequency.in this case speed of the generator must be increased. If T is the time taken for one rotation, the frequency difference can be calculated as 1/ T = A f Example Let the bus frequency be 5 Hz.The vector spot takes 1 Sec. for one rotation,clockwise. 1/1 =.1 Hz. The frequency difference =.1Hz. Hence we can infer that GENERATOR frequency is 5.1 Hz. If the Frequency & Phase of BUS signal matches with those of GENERATOR signal,the two green led s at 12 o clock position glow. If the Frequency matches & Phase does not, then one red led corresponding to the phase difference will glow. Favorable condition for" Switching in" the Generator 1. Ensure that the frequency difference between two inputs is within the requirements of user as follows Measure time taken for 1 complete rotation of the vector spot insecond(t). The frequency difference will be Af = 1/T(Hz) 2. Provided the frequency difference is within acceptable limits,wait till the SYNC mark LED s(two green LED s at 12 o clock position)glow.
