1 Plug-In XEDE Installation (Version 1.2) Tools You Will Need: Teeny Tiny Flat-Head Screwdriver (like what you would use to fix eyeglasses) 10mm ratchet with extension Needle nose pliers Heatgun or cigarette lighter Step 1 Open glovebox and unclip tab on left inner side. Step 2 Unhook left side of glovebox. Let it droop downwards and remove it completely. Set it aside.

2 Step 3 Remove plastic ECU cover by pulling it forwards. This will expose the bottom portion of the ECU. Step 4 Unhook all four yellow ECU connectors.

3 Step 5 Locate boost control wire. It is one of the light green wire (shown below) on the largest ECU connector (the connector furthest to the left when attached to the ECU). There is another green wire on the other row of that same connector so make sure you pick the right one (see picture). Step 6 You will need to extract this light green wire from the connector. To do this without cutting it, you will need a tiny flat head screw driver. Locate the white insert on the back of the yellow connector. You will see two small slots in it. Using the tiny screwdriver, you will need to lift up this white insert by gently prying it upwards from the slots. Don t pry it too hard to you will

4 damage the plastic. Please not that this white insert will not be removed from the connector. It will simply lift upwards 1/32 of an inch or so. You will feel an obvious click when it is in its fully open position. In order to pull out the light green wire, you will need to release it from its tiny securing hook. The securing hook is made of plastic and it can be seen from the ECU-end of the harness. It is very small and might be difficult to see at first glance. You can lift back the securing hook with the screwdriver. By lifting back, we mean that all you need to do is retract the hook a fraction of a millimeter so that it releases its grip on the metal push-in terminal.

5 With the hook gently pulled away (you ll have to hold it back with your screwdriver), you will be able to easily extract the light green wire from the other side by gently pulling on it. Step 7 Now insert the appropriate wire from the plug-in XEDE harness into the slot where the light green boost control wire used to go. In this picture, the color of the wire is blue. In some harnesses, it is another color. Doesn t matter since it is the only wire which is female terminated just like the green wire you extracted in the previous step.

6 Next, insert the other male terminated wire from the plug-in XEDE harness into the end of the female terminated light green wire. Once connected, use the shrink-wrap to secure it and isolate it from shorting against other metal objects. Push back in the white plastic insert. It will make a click when it goes in all the way. Step 8 Plug the right-most ECU connector into the plug-in XEDE harness. Then plug all the connectors into the ECU.

7 Step 9 Route the ground wire from the plug-in XEDE harness under the ECU and attach it to the 12mm mounting bolt. Without this ground secured, the XEDE s boost control feature will not work. Step 10 Secure the XEDE unit as shown below using a Velcroe strap. Notice how the communication cable hangs downwards, allowing quick and easy access when the need arises. Reinstall the plastic ECU cover and re-attach the glovebox. When installing the plastic ECU cover, make sure that the back of the plug-in harness board doesn t come into contact with anything metallic and conductive. There is a nicely sized pocket of space right behind the ECU completely devoid of nearby metal. The XEDE and harness installation process is now done.

8 Step 11 Open the front engine hood. Remove the factory cold air duct. You will have to first remove the two small fasteners which secure it to the radiator support frame.. Step 12

9 Remove factory airbox. To do this, you will have to remove the 3 12mm bolts that secure it to the engine compartment. You will also have to unclip the connector the Mass Airflow sensor and remove the intake tube that leads to the turbocharger inlet. Step 13 With the airbox completely removed, you will see a solenoid mounted to the frame. It will have two rubber boost lines routed to it. Pull off the boost line that is closest to the front of the car.

10 Step 14 With your thumb and index finger, squeeze the boost line up its length. A few inches from its end (where it gets pushed on to the solenoid), you will feel something hard in the line. What you are feeling is a small brass restrictor pill. You will need to remove this. You can either do this carefully with a needle-nose plier or with your fingers. You will literally have to squeeze the pill out. This will take some time and will make your fingers tired. If you chose to use the pliers, be careful not to damage or cut the boost line. With the pill finally removed (and stored in a safe place), re-install the boost line. Secure it with the hose clamp. Reinstall the airbox and cold air duct. Don't forget to re-attach the connector for the Mass Airflow meter. Your car won't start without it. Also note that there is a small relay on the harness which is being driven by the factory ECU. This relay will make a clicking sound from time to time. This is normal. It will also get hot to the touch. This is also normal. Congratulations. You're done with the entire installation. Now it's time to download the appropriate calibration map into the XEDE computer. Downloadable calibration maps and downloading instructions can be found at New Feature: Map Switching What is "Map Switching"? It is the ability for the user to toggle between two different XEDE calibration maps. This is a very useful feature for those who, at times, run on high octane race fuels and want to be able to activate an appropriately aggressive calibration map. It can also be used to activate a low boost "valet mode" if the need arises.

11 To load a secondary map on the XEDE unit, you have to activate the secondary map bank. Think of this secondary map bank as another pocket of memory that can be opened up upon demand. To active the secondary map bank, start your engine. You will notice that the XEDE's status LED is solid green. Now, simply the join the red and black wire (pictured above) together. You can hook these wires to a toggle switch and mount it anywhere you want in the cabin. When the wires are joined together, the LED display with turn orange. This means that the secondary map bank is currently empty. Now, using the XUpdate software, you can upload and burn the map of our choice. After the burning process is complete, turn off the ignition completely and then start the engine up again. Now, the LED should become solid green. This indicates that the secondary map is fully stored and functional. To toggle back to your original primary map, disconnect the black and red wire. You will notice that the LED turns orange for a few seconds before it turns green. This temporary orange LED indicates that the XEDE was in the process of switching map banks.
