1 SE620 Installation & Operation Instructions Installation Step 1: Install enclosure coupling and enclosure bracket Using a 5/32 allen wrench remove the 2 screws attaching the enclosure bracket(1) to the enclosure coupling(2). Take note of how it is installed. Apply thread sealant to and install the enclosure coupling in the process ball valve. Using the same 5/32 allen wrench and screws, re-install the enclosure bracket onto the enclosure coupling, in the fashion noted above. Step 2: Install the 750 probe regulator Follow the provided 750 instructions to install the probe into the female threads of the enclosure coupling. Insert it to its full insertion depth. Connect the probe outlet tube fitting(3) to the tube coil. Step 3: Connect the sample tubing Run the sample tube through the heat shrink entry boot(4) Terminate the heat trace (if applicable) Connect the sample tubing from the analyzer to the sample outlet(5). Step 4: Connect power to the enclosure Run VAC power to the inlet of the junction box(6) via the method required by your hazardous area classification. NOTE: A conduit seal fitting may be required. Open the junction box and connect wires. Follow the provided Intertec instructions for wiring. Turn power on to the enclosure Step 5: Set the outlet pressure of the GHR regulator CAUTION: The GHR will be HOT Follow the provided GHR instructions for setting the regulator. Step 6: Install enclosure around assembly Slide either enclosure half onto the enclosure bracket bulkhead boots, hold it in place with attached quick release pin(7). 4 Installation Instructions Step 1. Insure the valve is closed The valve at the top of the probe must remain closed until the duration of installation. Ensure it is closed by using a flat blade screwdriver to turn the integrated outlet valve in the clockwise direction, until it is snug. Step 2. Install to process valve Be sure the ball valve to the process line is closed Apply a thread sealant, such as Teflon Tape, to the male threads on the bottom of the probe Install the probe to the process ball valve using a 1-3/8 open end wrench ONLY on the lowest wrench flats on the base, nearest to the NPT male threads (see Figure 1) Step 3. Pressurize the probe Be sure the valve on top of the probe is closed Slowly open the ball valve to the process (see Figure 2) Step 4. Lowering the probe to proper depth Decide the depth needed for the probe (D1) by determining from the top of the full port process ball valve to the desired end of the probe in the pipeline (see Figure 4) Apply the depth (D1) to the probe from the top of the base up the threaded rod to determine the lowering stopping point (see Figure 3) Install the 2 depth marking nuts on the threaded rod at the predetermined lower stopping point. Using two 7/8 open end wrenches, rotate the upper nut clockwise and the lower nut counterclockwise simultaneously until the nuts are locked firmly in place. Lower the probe to the proper depth by using a 7/16 open end wrench only on the wrench flats of the threaded rod of the probe (Figure 5). Step 5. Leak testing the probe connections Using a leak detector, check for leaks at the following locations: process connection, probe packing seal, the 1/4 connection to the top valve adapter, and additionally any other connection made during the probe installation. If leaking occurs through the probe packing gland, use a 1 3/16 open end wrench to tighten the packing seal plug until the leak stops. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. 6 PAGE 2 OVERVIEW PRODUCT MANUAL Introduction This manual is intended to be used as a basic installation, operation, and maintenance guide for the Genie Model GHR Heated Regulator and has been carefully checked for accuracy. Proper installation is the responsibility of the installer. Product failure due to improper installation is not covered under the warranty. If you receive a damaged product, please contact your distributor immediately. Installation of this product is of a mechanical and electrical nature. The installer and operator should understand how to use tube fittings, make electrical connections, and be trained in installing this type of equipment and in protection practices required to maintain the area classification of the electrical equipment in hazardous locations. Product Description The Model GHR is a single stage heated pressure regulator designed specifically for use in gas analytical systems. The GHR prevents condensation of the sample gas from occurring as a result of the pressure reduction process of high pressure and high dew point gases or due to low operating or ambient temperature conditions. The GHR is heated with a self-limiting block heater, a simple and reliable heating option that prevents temperature overload and is easily mounted in small enclosures or densely-populated cabinets. 7 PAGE 3 Read this manual completely and carefully before installing or using this product. Failure to do so can result in serious injury or death. Save these instructions for future reference and for the local inspector s use. Observe all governing codes and ordinances. General Improper selection/installation/maintenance, misuse, or abuse of this equipment can cause death, serious injury, and property damage. Do not exceed ANY equipment pressure ratings. Refer to the technical specifications table for maximum pressure rating of the system. Verify the designed pressure ratings of all equipment in your system (supply lines, fittings, connections, filters, valves, gauges, etc.). Prior to use in a system, a properly-sized relief device is to be installed, which limits the use to 110% of the MAWP. Some fluids, when burning, do not exhibit a visible flame. Use extreme caution when inspecting and/or servicing systems using flammable fluids to avoid death or serious injury to personnel. Provide a device to warn personnel of these dangerous conditions. Not designed for external fire or for use with mixtures of an explosive gas and air/oxygen. Surface temperatures can approach the temperature limit stated in technical specifications. Gloves may be required for handling and adjustment. Do not use the regulator as a shut-off device. A ball valve on the outlet is recommended for this purpose. Our Genie Regulator Accessory Manifold is designed to thread directly into any Genie ProbeRegulator or Genie Regulator and provides a means to monitor regulator outlet pressure and block flow. Electrical Electrical power must be OFF before and during installation and maintenance or personal injury may result. All appropriate national, state, and electrical codes must be followed. The power supply is with the help of a silicone cable, notch, and oil resistant. The cable is intended for installation inside a rigid metal conduit, cable tray, or a similar method which provides sufficient mechanical strength to the cable against stress and bending. Grounding to be provided at the final location of installation. INSTALLATION AND OPERATION Installation and Operation Notes The regulator should be installed in a KOZY insulated jacket, ACES enclosure, or similar type of insulating device. Refer to the Temperature Limitations section of the enclosed INTERTEC document from information concerning the heat transfer coefficient of the enclosure surrounding the regulator. Our KOZY insulated jacket and INTERTEC enclosures used in our ACES systems meet this requirement. Bracket mounting is optional, but is suggested as mounting makes it stationary for quick and easy operation. Valve off sample flow prior to regular installation. 8 PAGE Mount 1. The regulator can be mounted in any position, preferably with the block heater at the bottom so heat can rise into the body of the regulator. 2. Use of insulating washers between the regulator and the enclosure/panel is required to maximize block heater efficiency. Position the (4) insulating washers over the holes that have been drilled for mounting. 3. Place the regulator over the insulating washers with bracket holes aligned over the washers holes. 4. Affix the regulator to the enclosure/panel by inserting (4) 1/4 screws into the mounting bracket holes and tighten with a screwdriver. Connect tubing 1. Connect tubing from the sample stream to the inlet port. 2. Connect tubing from the outlet port to the next device in the sample system. 3. The GHR is a non-venting regulator. The port that is not labeled is an atmospheric reference port for the regulator. If threaded, tubing can be connected to permit venting of hazardous process gases to a safe area through a vent line in the event of a seal failure. NOTICE: DO NOT plug the atmospheric vent port or the regulator s performance will be affected. Connect power 1. Verify that the block heater voltage matches the voltage of the available power supply. 2. Refer to the INTERTEC literature provided with the unit for electrical wiring. Power up 1. Turn power on. 2. Allow at least 10 minutes for the block heater to warm before moving on to the next step. Atmospheric reference DO NOT PLUG Block Heater Voltage ID label Wire ID label 5. Establish flow and adjust pressure CAUTION: The regulator will be HOT. Perform the following steps with gloves on to avoid burns. 1. Slowly open external valving to avoid a sudden surge in fluid or pressure. Pressure adjustment screw Locking nut 2. Use a 3/8 allen wrench to turn the allen cap pressure adjustment screw located on top of the regulator to adjust pressure while gas is flowing through the regulator. To raise the outlet pressure, turn the screw clockwise. To lower the outlet pressure, turn the screw counterclockwise. 3. Monitor outlet pressure and flow for the next 30 minutes or until both stabilize. The pressure adjustment set point may have to be adjusted once the temperature is stabilized. 4. Once pressure and flow are stable, use a crescent wrench to firmly tighten the locking nut around the pressure adjustment screw to prevent unintended changes in pressure adjustment. NOTICE: At high supply pressure, a sudden change may be observed on the downstream pressure gauge as the valve stem moves away from the seat. Slight readjustments may be necessary until the pressure and flow have equilibrated. 9 PAGE 5 MAINTENANCE Maintenance Notes Periodic inspection of your equipment is required for continued safe operation (at least once per year). Perform visual, electrical, and mechanical checks on all components on a regular basis. Visually inspect for undue heating evidenced by discoloration of wires or other components, damaged or worn parts, or leakage evidence by water or corrosion in the interior. Visually inspect to make sure that all electrical connections are clean and tight and that the device is operating properly. Although there are no routine maintenance items for the regulator, repair kits are offered for inlet filter, heater block, and seat & seal (if the regulator contains non-standard seals, the seal material type will be etched on the body under the A+ logo.) Please contact the factory or your local distributor for part numbers and pricing, or for the evaluation of any failures or other needed repairs. Review the Safety Warnings in the BEFORE YOU START section of the manual before performing any maintenance. WARNING: To avoid personal injury, property damage or equipment damage caused by a sudden release of pressure, or explosion of accumulated gas, do not attempt any maintenance or disassembly without first isolating the regulator from system pressure and relieving all internal pressure from the regulator. To avoid personal injury, electrical power must be turned off and locked out prior to attempting any maintenance or disaasembly. Allow approximately thirty (30) minutes for the heater to cool prior to performing maintenance and use gloves to avoid burns. 1. Remove the fasteners (nuts, washers, and spacers) that are holding the heater block in place. DO NOT discard the fasteners. 2. Remove the heater from the regulator. Fasteners 2. Install new heater 1. Place the new heater in the bracket with its cord on the same side as the inlet port. 2. Use the original fasteners to attach the heater to the bracket. 3. Refer to steps 4 & 5 on PAGE 4 on powering up, establishing flow, and setting pressure. Allow approximately thirty (30) minutes for the heater to cool prior to performing maintenance and use gloves to avoid burns. 1. Use retaining ring pliers to remove and discard the retaining ring from the inlet port. 2. Remove and discard the filter disc and gasket located behind the retaining ring. 3. Remove and clean the heat transfer rod (dowel pin and spring). Inlet port Clean Discard 2. Install new parts 1. Install the heat transfer rod (dowel and spring), new gasket, and new filter into the inlet port. 2. Use retaining ring pliers to install the retaining ring into the inlet port. 3. 11 PAGE 7 2. Discard Separate the two halves 1. Clamp the regulator in a vice using the wrench flats near the bottom half of the regulator body. 2. Remove the bolt, nut, washer, and o-ring from the top of the regulator. Discard ONLY the o-ring. the o-ring Set the rest aside 3. Use a 1.5 open end wrench or crow s foot to loosen the top by rotating it counterclockwise. DO NOT unscrew all of the way or the parts in the top will fall out. 4. Remove the regulator from the vice and turn it upside-down. 5. Separate the two halves and place the top upside-down on a clean work space. 3. Replace o-ring in bottom half 1. Remove the o-ring on top of the regulator bottom and the white Teflon spacer underneath it. Replace with new o-ring 2. Clean the threads with a solvent (acetone or similar) to remove any liquids, oils, or grease from the threads. 3. Install the new #2-026 o-ring and Teflon spacer from the kit. 4. Lightly lube the o-ring with Krytox. 4. Remove parts from bottom 1. Use the spanner bit or 1/4 hex socket screwdriver to remove the seat retention nut. Use the spanner bit Seat retention nut 2. Gently grab the end of the stem and pull out with needle-nose pliers. 3. Discard the o-ring, stem, and seat. DO NOT discard the seat retention nut. Discard the components 5. Replace parts in bottom 1. Place a new seat on the small end of the new stem. Seat Retention nut 2. Locate the spring inside the top center hole of the regulator bottom and place the large end of the stem inside of the spring. #2-009 o-ring 3. Lightly lube the new #2-009 o-ring with Krytox and then set it on top of the seat. Valve stem Seat/valve stem 4. Use a small tool to press the o-ring, seat, and stem snugly into the cavity (the white outer casing of a BIC pen works well). 5. Carefully, lightly lube only the threads of the seat retention nut with Krytox and then set it, non-threaded side first, on top of the seat. 6. Use a torque wrench/screwdriver with the spanner bit to torque the seat retention nut to 25 in/lbs. 12 PAGE 8 6. Replace the piston seal 1. Turn the regulator top upright to remove the components from within the regulator top. 2. Remove the o-rings from around the piston (5) and replace them with the new #2-015 o-rings from the kit. Once installed, lightly lube the o-rings. 3. Turn the top upside-down and install the components in the following order: Drop a spring button (1) in the regulator top with the pointed side up. Drop the load spring (2) in the regulator top. Drop a second spring button (3) in the regulator top with the pointed side down. Install the piston (5), small end first, into piston housing adapter (4). Install the piston housing adapter, small end first, in the regulator top. Replace the o-rings Pointed sides go inside the spring 7. Tighten the two halves together 1. Carefully apply a thin film of Loctite 243 thread adhesive to the threads of the regulator bottom. 2. With the regulator top still upside-down, screw the bottom and top together hand-tight. 3.
