3 1.- General Description The DW-900 Operator mechanism is used to operate Non-Load Isolator switches type DTP, Load-Break Disconnector switches type LDTP DRIWISA, from the frontal cover of the cabinet (or substation). This manual covers the following DISC OPERATOR kit (DW-900-): : DW Disc operator set (Plate version). 4 Constituent parts for the disc operator mechanism DW Each mechanism is composed of: Quantity Description DW DW DW Per Equipment 1 Disc Mechanism 1 Rod Operating 2 Yokes 1 Moving bar with eyelet 1 Fixed front half sector Nota: The operator lever is supplied with every switch. Because the transmission size depends on the cabinet design, dimensions of the cell and the assembly arrangement, the transmission pipe is not included in the kit. We recommend using a 12.7 mm Ø (½ ) galvanized steel pipe, NPT threaded at both ends, cut to the required length. The holes for the padlock on the fixed front half sector part, will have to be made in the field, once the disc mechanism is installed and the blocking position is defined. The disc (or plate depends on the version) has six threaded perforations, spaced at 25º to allow optimal adjustment with the angle of the handle, securing it with a screw. The mounting plate has two perforations for the assembly on the internal structure of the cabinet (see drawing 1 in figure 4). On the frontal cover of the cabinet, rectangular perforation is required to allow a part of the disc (or plate) to stick out of the frontal cover to be operated. The perforation for the operating rod must be exposed (see drawing 2 in figure 4). Figura 4 Disc operator installation 2.- Installation November 2010 M Accessories Page 3 of 7

5 The disc mechanism must be installed at a distance (between 700 and 1500 mm) from the floor to allow a comfortable and easy operation. This distance makes it easier for the operator because he can use his weight in order to have more force to operate the disc mechanism. Switch assembly in vertical position. The assembly height of the disc mechanism (Z in figure 5) must be between 700 and 1500 mm (27 and 59 inches) from the floor level. However, in specific cases it can be used at different heights. WARNING. Avoid installing the disc mechanism near the operating switch shaft level (see figure 5), because the angular adjustment is difficult when this distance is reduced (Y distance in figure 5). To determine the correct angles and the transmission pipe length, this manual shows two methods, the first is a practical method to apply in the field, and the second is an analytical method to apply in the design phase. In the latter method some final adjustments are still required. Figure 5 Switch assembly in vertical position 2.1 Practical Method (in the field): 1. Open the switch using the switch operating lever. Take note of which holes in the operating lever the screws are in (see figure 6 detail A), this is important because you have to put the operating lever back to it s original position (you can mark this position). 3. Take out the screws in order to allow the switch operating lever to rotate freely on the shaft. 4. Tie a string to the hole on the switch operating lever (according fig. 6). Figure 6 5. Tie the other end of the string to the hole at the end of the disc lever (see figure 6). 6. Move the disc lever and the operating lever in order to form a 90º angle in respect to the operating lever with the string, and the disc lever with the string (see figure 6)(the disc lever and the operating lever must be parallel in theory). 7. When you get to this condition, measure the distance between the centers of both of the eyelets (or measure the string), this distance is called T. 8. Put the operating lever back in it s original position and install the screws in its original position (the holes marked in step two). 9. From distance T subtract 170 mm ( 6 5/8 ) ( you are subtracting the length of the yokes) this distance is called R 10. Cut a piece of galvanized steel pipe, ½ in diameter, to the length of R. 11. Thread the pipe at least 63mm (2 1/2") on the outside at both ends. 12. Put the nuts and the yokes on each end of the pipe. 13. Adjust the distance between the yoke s holes to the distance of T from step Replace the string with the pipe and fix the yoke using the grooved bolt and only install one lock spring. 15. Check that the longitudinal movement of the pipe results in a movement of 90º or more of the operating lever, and the disc lever does not hit the cover of the cabinet. 16. If the disc lever hits the cabinet, the length of the pipe must be reduced adjusting the yokes (by turning them) to get a smaller transmission length. 17. Once you have the appropriate transmission length, install the rest of the lock springs on the grooved bolts. November 2010 M Accessories Page 5 of 7

7 Pm 140 INSTALLATION MANUAL FOR DISC OPERATOR MECHANISM DW Analytical Method (design phase): 1: Determine the location of the equipment according to the design and arrangement of the substation (usually installed in frontal vertical position). 2: Find the center of the "prohibited area" as shown in Figure 5, which is the level of switch shaft (center shaft). 3: Calculate the area of the "prohibited area", considering A = 127 mm (5 "). 4: Determine the most suitable position for the drive mechanism outside of the "prohibited area". The recommended height (Z) is between 700 and 1500mm (27 and 59 ), the lower the better. 5: Turn the disk lever 15 º away from the wall of the cabinet as shown in Figure 5. 6: Determine the measurement of X (distance between the center line of the switch shaft to the center of the disc mechanism). Determine the distance of (W) that is between the center line of the switch shaft to the switch base frame (it can be found in the catalog). 7: Calculate the measurement of Y as: Y = H - Z 8: Calculate the total length of the transmission (T), including the yokes as: T A 2 B 2 Where: A Y PaCos.15º) A Y Pa PaSen.15 Pm B X º Pa = Length of the disc operator lever.
