1 CORRECT SELECTION OF COMPRESSED AIR PROCESSING EQUIPMENT Most SHAVO units are available in port sizes from 1/8 to 2 and there is a wide choice of filter elements and regulating and relief spring ranges for filters, regulators, filter-regulators and relief valves. Filter and filter-regulators have automatic or manual-drain and regulators and filter-regulators are offered of relieving or non-relieving construction. There are two basic types of lubricators : the Oil-Fog type for general lubrication of air cylinders and valves, pneumatic tools and similar air operated devices and the Micro-Mist lubricators for use with high speed tools or where there are lengthy complex piping systems and multiple points of application. Models are available with standard pipe threads or to the Plug -In design, which permits units to be quickly and simply plugged into yoke pieces permanently installed in the pipeline. Any combination of Shavo Filters, Regulators, Filter-Regulators and Lubricators can be assembled together to automatically remove liquid and solid contaminants from the air stream, regulate main line air pressure to the required working level and to create an airborne oil or Micro-Mist for the proper lubrication of air tools, air cylinders and other air power equipment. 2 HOW TO SELECT THE FILTER YOU NEED? GUIDELINES Choose a Standard 'filter' for general application on plant and machinery and in factory air lines. A 50-micrometre element is suitable for most purposes. Choose a finer element to protect instruments and similar equipment. Remember that too fine a filter element will become quickly choked. Automatic-drain filters are labour saving. Metal bowl filters withstand higher pressures and temperatures and rougher usage. Choose an Oil Removal filter when particularly clean oil free air is required e.g. for :- Pneumatic control instrumentation Protection of fluidic elements Air supply to protective clothing Printing and paper separation Brewing and beer dispensing When air is coming into contact with food, drugs and medical supplies Paint spraying Adsorption air dryers, gas burners etc. STANDARD FILTERS GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS TRANSPARENT BOWL MODELS Max. Pressure: 10 kg/cm² (150 p.s.i.) Max. Temperature : 50 C (120 F) METAL BOWL MODELS Max. Pressure :17.5 kg/cm² (250 p.s.i.) Max. Temperature : 80 C (175 F) These filters remove free moisture and solids from the airstream. Flow rates given in the table are at 6 bar supply pressure and 1 bar pressure drop - 50 µ filteration. OPERATION OF TYPICAL MODEL Air enters the filter through directional louvres (A) which force it into a whirling flow pattern. Liquid particles are thrown against the inside wall of the bowl by centrifugal force and subsequently run down into the bottom of the bowl where the baffle (B) maintains a 'quiet zone' to prevent air turbulence from picking up the liquid and returning it to the air stream. The air then passes through the filter element (C) to remove solid contaminants. When the liquid level reached a predetermined height the float operated automatic-drain assembly (D) automatically dumps collected liquid to drain. Manual-drain filters are drained by operating the draincock. DECIDE YOUR REQUIREMENTS AS FOLLOWS 1) Pipe Size : check the table on back page for maximum recommended flow through pipe and guide figures given in table here. 2) Manual or Automatic-Drain 3) Transparent or Metal Bowl 4) Preferred Filter Element 5) Accessories as listed in Sales Leaflet 6) CHOOSE PLUG-IN DESIGN FOR EASE OF SERVICING. HIGH EFFICIENCY OIL REMOVING FILTERS GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS TRANSPARENT BOWL MODELS Max. Pressure :10 kg/cm² (150 p.s.i.) Max. Temperature : 50 C (120 F) METAL BOWL MODELS Max. Pressure : 17.5 kg/cm² (250 p.s.i.) Max. Temperature : 80 C (175 F) These filters remove oil mist and very fine solids from the airstream. Efficiency against sub-micron particles better than %. 5 HOW TO SELECT THE REGULATOR YOU NEED? GUIDELINES Choose a regulating spring such that the usual regulator setting is above midway in the spring range. Relieving type regulators are convenient for most applications. Non-relieving regulators cannot be adjusted to provide a lower pressure unless downstream air is first utilised to reduce the existing residual pressure. They are particularly recommended when it is vital that there is no local exhaust to atmosphere. GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS MAXIMUM PRIMARY PRESSURE 2 SRO2 : 28 kg/cm. 2 Others : 21 kg/cm. 0 Maximum Temperature : 80 C Relieving : Standard Non-Relieving : Optional Precision regulators or precision controllers should be specified where particularly fine pressure control is required for instruments, air gauging and similar applications. Flow rates given in the table are at a supply pressure of 10 bar and 1 bar drop inlet sec. Pr. of 6 bar. OPERATION OF TYPICAL MODEL The adjusting knob (A) is rotated to load the adjusting spring (B) the amount necessary until the required regulated pressure is shown on the gauge. The load is transmitted through the flexible regulator diaphragm (C) to the valve (D), causing it to open. The underside of the diaphragm is connected to the regulator outlet by a syphon tube (E). As the regulated pressure increases, the force under the diaphragm increases causing the diaphragm to compress the adjusting spring until a balance is achieved. Excess pressure is vented through the relief seat. The pressure setting can be locked by pressing down the snap-action lock (F). NOTE : Settings under 'no flow' conditions will alter under 'flow' conditions and vice versa. NON-RELIEVING TYPE With this construction it is necessary to operate downstream equipment if it is desired to reduce the pressure setting. DECIDE YOUR REQUIREMENTS AS FOLLOWS 1) Consider your need for a general purpose or special purpose regulator and degree of accuracy required 2) Pipe Size : check the table on back page for maximum recommended flow through pipe and the guide figures given on the table opposite. 3) Relieving or Non-Relieving 4) Regulating Spring Range 5) Accessories, panel mounting etc. as listed in Sales Leaflet. 6) CHOOSE PLUG-IN DESIGN FOR EASE OF SERVICING Note : The information given in this table is for general guidance only. Study of the flow characteristics in the Sales Leaflet will give you much more helpful information. Mumbai, India. Tel. : Fax : v

7 HOW TO SELECT THE OIL-MIST LUBRICATOR YOU NEED? GUIDELINES Oil Mist lubricators give a high oil output and are recommended for the general lubrication of cylinders and valves in simple circuits and low speed pneumatic tools. Choose a 'Constant Density' automatic model for applications on assembly lines etc. where the air flow constantly varies between wide limits. OPERATION OF TYPICAL CONSTANT DENSITY MODEL Air enters the lubricator and flows past the automatic flow sensor (A) and on through the venturi section to the outlet port. A portion of the air flows through the check valve (B) to pressurise the bowl. Differential pressure between the bowl and sight feed dome (C) causes oil to flow up to the syphon tube (D), through the dome screen into passages in the sight feed dome. The oil-drip rate is controlled by the adjusting knob (E). The oil drips into the venturi section where it is atomised and becomes airborne oil-mist which is carried to the pneumatic device. The automatic flow sensor (elastomer) flexes as necessary to accommodate changes in air flow. The oil drip rate setting can be tamper-proofed by pressing down the green snap-action lock (F). DECIDE YOUR REQUIREMENTS AS FOLLOWS :- 1) Required Operating Flow Range and Operating Pressure. 2) Specify Pipe Size. 3) Specify lubricator oil capacity not too small, not too large. 4) Transparent or Metal Bowl (large capacity lubricators have metal reservoir) 5) Accessories as listed on Sales Leaflet 6) CHOOSE PLUG-IN DESIGN FOR EASE OF SERVICING. OIL MIST LUBRICATORS GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS TRANSPERENT BOWL MODELS 2 Max. Pressure : 10 kg/cm (150 p.s.i.) Max. Temperature : 50 C (120 F) METAL BOWL MODELS 2 Max. Pressure : 17.5 kg/cm (250 p.s.i.) Max. Temperature : 80 C (175 F) Flow rates given in the table are at 6 bar supply pressure and 1 bar pressure drop. # Dimensions : Allow sufficient clearance for servicing - in particular allow room for withdrawing Plug-In units. 9 HOW TO SELECT THE MICRO-MIST LUBRICATOR YOU NEED? GUIDELINES Micro-Mist lubricators should be used to lubricated high speed and rotary motor air tools, multi cylinder circuits on frequent and rapid operation, complicated circuits and where there are long pipe runs or where very fine, control of oil output is required. Choose a 'Constant Density' automatic model for applications on assembly lines etc. where the air flow constantly varies between wide limits. OPERATION OF TYPICAL CONSTANT DENSITY MODEL Part of the air entering the inlet flows through the venturi and cross-fire jets (A) remaining air flows past the automatic flow sensor (B) to the downstream system. Differential pressure between the bowl and the sight feed dome (C) causes oil to flow up the syphon tube (D), through the dome screen (E) into passages in the sight feed dome. The oil drip-rate is controlled by the adjusting knob (F). When the oil drips into the venturi section it is broken up into fine particles by the action of the cross-fire jets and most oil particles larger than 2 microns in size fall out and return to the surface of the oil. The smaller particles remain airborne. This is Micro-Mist representing only a small percentage of the oil which passed through the sight feed dome. This travels through passageway (G) to the downstream air line and on to the points of lubrication. The automatic flow sensor flexes as necessary to accommodate changes in air flow. The oil drip rate setting can be tamper-proofed by pressing down the red snap-action lock (H). MICRO MIST LUBRICATORS GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS TRANSPARENT BOWL MODELS Max.Pressure :10 kg/cm² (150 p.s.i.) Max. Temperature : 50 C (120 F) METAL BOWL MODELS Max. 11 HOW TO SELECT THE FILTER - REGULATOR YOU NEED? A convenient means of combining the functions of a Filter and Regulator - as described in previous sections - in one compact unit. GUIDELINES A 50-micrometre element is suitable for most applications. Choose a finer element to protect instruments and similar equipment. Remember that too fine a filter element will become quickly choked. Automatic-drain models are labour saving. Metal bowl models withstand higher temperatures and pressures and rougher usage. Choose a regulating spring such that the usual regulator setting is above midway in the spring range. Relieving type models are convenient for most applications. Non-relieving models cannot be adjusted to provide a lower pressure unless downstream air is just utilised to reduce the existing residual pressure. OPERATION OF TYPICAL MODEL Air entering the unit flows through directional louvres (A) which force it into a Whirling flow pattern. Liquid particles are thrown against the inside wall of the bowl by centrifugal force and then run down into the bottom of the bowl. The baffle (B) maintains a 'quiet zone' to prevent air turbulence from picking up the liquid and returning it to the air stream. The air then passes through the filter element (C) to remove solid contaminants. When the liquid level reaches a predetermined height the float operated automatic-drain assembly (D) automatically dumps collected liquid to drain. Manual-drain models are drained by opening a draincock. From the filter element the air passes to the pressure regulator section. When no load is applied to the adjusting spring (E) the regulator valve (F) is closed. As the adjusting knob (G) is turned it applies a load to the spring which is transmitted to the valve through the flexible diaphragm (H), causing it to open. The air pressure side of the diaphragm is connected to the outlet port by means of a syphon tube (J), therefore, regulated pressure is exerted against the diaphragm. As the regulated pressure increases, the pressure under the diaphragm also increases and forces the diaphragm to compress the adjusting spring until the load exerted by the spring is equal to the load exerted by the regulated pressure. Excess downstream pressure is vented through the relief seat (K). The pressure setting is locked by pressing down the snap-action lock (L).
