12 12 STRAIGHT WEB SECTIONS STRAIGHT WEB SECTIONS S traight web sheet piles are designed to form clindrical structures, retaining asoil fill. These clindrical structures are generall closed. The stabilit of constructions built up in this wa, asteel envelope and an internal bod of soil is guaranteed b their own weight. Straight web sheet piles are mostl used on projects where rock laers are close to ground level, with deep excavations,orwhere anchoring would be difficultoreven impossible. Straightwebsheetpile structuresare made as circular cells or diaphragm cells depending on the site characteristics, or the particular requirements of the project. I nterlock Strength The interlock complies with EN An interlock strength Rof 5500 kn/m for AS and AS , 5000 kn/m for AS , 3500 kn/m for AS and 3000 kn/m for AS 500- can be obtained. The required steel grade in these cases is S355 GP. For verification ofthe strength ofpiles, both ielding ofthe web and failure ofthe interlock should be considered. The allowable tension force Tin the pile ma be obtained b appling aset of carefull chosen safet factor,for example: T= 1 R. η The magnitude of safet factors depends on the calculation method and assumptions, the installation method and the function ofthe structure. When two different s are used in the same of wall, the lowest allowable tension force istobe taken into account. The value of η =2.0 is currentl used.
