4 Operation and Maintenance of Fire Damper ETPS-EI Operation Technical data and operation: see separate brochure. According to CE marking, the fire damper must close by means of a temperature-based tripping mechanism. The fire dampers are available either with a mechanical thermal fuse or an actuator motor. The motorized model may also be included a smoke-detection-based tripping mechanism. In such case, the fire damper should be connected to a control and monitoring system FICO delivered by Fläkt Woods. The system can also be used for the automatic function testing of fire dampers, without causing interruptions to system operation. Function testing Damper with thermal fuse: Press the red testing lever, until the spring closes the damper blade. Watch out for the turning spring tensioning handle! Turn the blade back into the open position, until you hear the retaining clip snap. The function testing interval is determined separately for each building, however the test is to be performed at intervals not exceeding six months (EN 15650, 8.3). Maintenance Perform the following measures in conjunction with periodical maintenance or possible repair work: Check that the fire damper casing is not damaged and that the blade can move freely. Check that the actuator is properly fastened onto damper casing and blade shaft. Check that the damper blade and sealings are undamaged. Check that the damper blade is completely open during normal operation. Check that the damper blade is able to close and open freely. WARNING! Never put your hands inside the damper while it is closing. Cleaning Clean the fire damper by means of a vacuum cleaner. Avoid chemical cleaning agents. Spare parts: Actuator: see type specification on the actuator. Motorized damper: The function testing for the motorized model can be performed by cutting off the power supply by using the rocker switch of the thermal trip (BAE72B-S) connected to the motor. The spring should then close the blade. The function testing can also be done by means of the control and monitoring system FICO, either manually or automatically. The recommended function testing interval for the motorized model is 48 hours. Fläkt Woods FIFLO EN

5 Installation of fire damper into building elements (walls or intermediate floors) made of rock material and having fire class EI 60 / EI 90 / EI 120, damper length 500 mm or 400 mm 1. The dimensions of the building element penetration must be at least: bxh =(B+80mm) x (H+80mm), see FIGURE Insert the fire damper inside the building element penetration so, that the damper blade is located in the middle of the element. 2. The damper shaft may be placed either horizontally or vertically. 3. Cast in the gap s (FIGURE 2) throughout the thickness of the building element. Use incombustible, rock-based, fine-grained gypsum or concrete. Protect the damper for the time of casting. min 100 mm FIGURE 1. Building element made of rock material, damper length 500 mm or 400 mm 4. Check the functioning of the fire damper and proper moving of its blade. Clean the damper, if necessary. Place plastic covers on the openings and keep them covered, until ducts are connected to the damper. 5. Tensioning the spring of damper with thermal fuse: Turn the blade into the open position, until you hear the retaining clip snap. After this, you can check the closing function of the damper by pressing the red testing lever. 1. The dimensions of the building element penetration must be at least: bxh =(B+80mm) x (H+80mm), see FIGURE The function testing of the motorized model can be performed de-energized by means of the hexagon wrench delivered with the product, and energized by using the switch of the thermal trip. Note! If you open the damper with the hexagon wrench, be sure to release the damper back to the closed position before switching on the current. 7. Connect ducts to the damper according to the instructions provided by the designer or manufacturer. Each damper is equipped with a flange joint. 8. The fastening of the fire damper must have a fire resisting capacity that is at least as high as the fire classification of the penetrated building element (the fire resistance rating of a class EI 60 element is R 60, etc.).
