1 CAPRICORN CONTROLS DATA & APPLICATION NOTE Page 1 of 6 Data & Application Notes BVF300 'Special' Battery Voltage Monitor Control Systems - Genset Controls - Timers/Monitors/Trips - Battery Chargers - Custom Products Designed for Genset 'base-load' applications where the set must be run automatically in order to charge its own (or other) batteries. The BVF300 continually monitors the battery voltage and compares this level with the 'LO' & 'HI' pre-set thresholds. Each threshold has its own delay timer which in turn will 'Set' or 'Reset' the output relay. Thus, the battery voltage must fall and remain below the 'LO' threshold for time T1 in order to energise the relay (signal for the set to Run). With the engine running, the battery is charged from the 'Charging Alternator'. When the battery voltage rises and remains above the 'HI' threshold for time T2 the relay will deenergise (signalling for the set to stop). This controller would typically be used with an RSM72 Remote Start Module (see page 5). OPERATION With reference to pages 2 & 3, typical operation is as follows --- At Power Up Falling Battery Voltage Engine Running The flip-flop latch is reset and the relay de- energised (engine stopped) With the battery voltage above the 'LO' threshold, the BVF300 remains in the standby mode with the GREEN Led ON and the relay de-energised. If the battery level falls below the 'LO' threshold, Amber Led-2 (to the left of the green one) will light, indicating that timer T1 is running (whenever the battery level rises above the 'LO' threshold, timer T1 is reset). If T1 times out, the output stage 'flips' to the set state, energising the relay (to run the engine). Red Led ON (Green Led Off) = Set State Red + Amber Led-2 lit --- Battery voltage level is below the 'LO' threshold. Red + Amber Led-4 lit --- Battery voltage level is above the 'HI' threshold. Rising Battery Voltage Engine Stopped The relay will remain in the 'Set' state. If the battery voltage level rises above the 'HI' threshold, the Amber Led-4 (far left) is lit indicating that timer T2 is running (whenever the battery level falls below the 'HI' threshold, timer T2 is reset). If T2 times out, the output stage 'flops' back to the reset state, de-energising the relay (to stop the engine). Green Led ON (Red Led Off) = Reset State Green + Amber Led-2 lit --- Battery voltage is below the 'LO' threshold. Green + Amber Led-4 lit --- Battery voltage is above the 'HI' threshold.

Always quote the original serial number when ordering a replacement unit for a specific application. Default = 30sec to 30min
