8 Status of stations per country (2) No stations has been installed in Madagascar and Seychelles Two stations were installed in Mauritius and doesn t transmit data to PRC Station which shows no data or few transmitting does not necessarily mean that the non-transmitting stations are not collecting or storing data. In most cases data is being logged into the loggers but cannot be transmitted due to vandalism or damages to the transmission units (solar panel, antennae, GPS etc). An effort must be made to verify this and liaise with the member states, so that after going to the stations & download the data, they can also send the data to PRC for updating the Regional database.

9 Project Implementation Challenges (1) Most stations only measure water level which is insufficient for flood management and development of hydrological products. Destruction of stations by floods Data transmission protocols are unsuitable for developing countries Impacting on data validation, data exchange Difficulties being faced by MS in paying HYDSTRA licence fees to the Australian company Kisters, due to treasury regulations in raising the required foreign currency.

10 Project Implementation Challenges (2) The non availability and/or limited stock of spare parts on the local market. Dependence on external expertise for station maintenance due to lack of internal capacity. Lack of capital to replace the outdated Phase I DCPs High incidences of vandalism at stations

15 Transmission system RSA situation Alternative solution used by RSA systems and performances (1) From the status report on transmission, RSA us at 70 % because of using different system than Meteosat which is prone to vandalismlarge infrastructure Ubuntu, 4 water and east Coast use GCM systems data is own by company and we get it from their server at coast Tarrifs are escalating at alarming rate
