10 BUS RAPID TRANSIT High quality bus based system that delivers fast, comfortable and cost-effective urban mobility through segregated right-of-way infrastructure, rapid and frequent operations. Medium/ high capacity system ( passengers per hour per way) Less expensive implementation then Metro and Light Rail Systems Trunk-and-feeder system, with express lines and lines that stop every station, in trunk Segregated lanes for priority in traffic Stations in the center of the lanes, boarding platforms at the same level of the bus, accessible for those with mobility impairments Payment and ticket validation on the station - less time for boarding needed Operational control Center: Total control of operation, GPS monitoring, on time contact with driver, information system for users Integration with other mass transport modes Boarding time reduction, higher commercial speed

Will be probabilty the corridor with the highest demand in the world Along 30 km there will be no crossings Will be connected to very high demand corridors through its terminals Acess to most of the stations will be through footbrigdes The corridor is a link to city center

33 BRS- BUS RAPID SYSTEM Existing corridors where partial segregation for buses was implemented; Other vehicles can use bus lanes under certain conditions; Each line has specific bus stops inside the corridor.

35 ITS Plan and manage the public transportation and the transit of the city of Rio de Janeiro Has 800 employees, which 20% are engineers. To manage the traffic the SMTR has CET-Rio, that is a company separated from SMTR but is under control of SMTR. The SMTR changes information with Rio Operation Center, where the information about transit and transportation is managed.

36 ITS Transit and transportation are managed using some different technologies, such as: 185 cameras spread over the city, which are linked with the Rio Operation Center traffic lights, which 52% are controlled via GPRS. 23 Variable Messages Panel, which are used to inform for citizens about traffic and route time. All buses are monitored by GPS.

37 ITS Information demanded about problems that occur on the traffic of the city. Information demanded about departures, arrivals and travel time of public transportations. How these information will be known by the citizens faster and accurate.

43 COR- CENTRO DE OPERAÇÕES RIO Radar with 250km range and doppler technology that can cross clouds and measure its speed and direction A system that will predict rains 48 hours in advance is under development and will forecast with precision in which region of the city the climate event will happen.

44 COR- CENTRO DE OPERAÇÕES RIO / CET-RIO The traffic in the city is monitorized by CET-RiO through 92 cameras, with real time images. This number will double until the end of the year and on 2013 there will be 585 cameras, that will cover the whole city. It is na investiment of more than R$ 12 million. Today 52% of traffic lights are monitorized by GPRS; On July 2012 this number will achive 82%. It is na investment of R$ 7 million.

45 COR- CENTRO DE OPERAÇÕES RIO / CET-RIO Since Variable Message Signs in the City, that indicate to drives the best routes, including travel times in some corridors. In emergency situations, those signs display alert information to drivers. 5This year 5 new signs will be implemented. Other 8 mobile signs are used by CET-RIO in events, emergency works and interdictions.

47 COR/ PUBLIC TRANSPORT Since november 2010 bus services are operated by 4 concessionaries A ticket called bilhete ùnico was implemented, and give users the right to travel in two buses during the period of 2 hours.

48 COR/ PUBLIC TRANSPORT Concessionaries are now developing a system for monitorizing and fiscalization of buses in the city, and this information will be avaiable at COR. Operational indicators will be monitorized (fleet per lines, waiting time, passenger per line, etc) The system will generate reports that will support planning and direct actions to problematic lines
