In 2009, Saudi Aramco completed major work on the largest capital program in the Company s history. The program spanned the Company s energy portfolio and included multiple mega-projects in oil, gas, natural gas liquids (NGL), refining and petrochemicals. The end result: Saudi Aramco raised its maximum sustainable crude oil production capacity to 12 million barrels per day (bpd), the highest in our history and a capability unmatched by any other company in the petroleum industry. Significant increases were also achieved in gas production and processing capacities. In another first, Saudi Aramco entered the petrochemical business with the start of production by the Petro Rabigh facility. 5 In 2009, Saudi Aramco completed the addition of more than 2 million bpd of crude oil production capacity, an amount greater than the total production of some major oil-producing nations. These production increments have created thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Saudi citizens, helped develop the capabilities of domestic engineering, construction and procurement firms, expanded opportunities for technology and other service providers, and ultimately will help ensure that Saudi Aramco remains the world s most reliable supplier of petroleum. The Khurais increment, which included the development of the Abu Jifan and Mazalij fields, added 1.2 million bpd of Saudi Aramco Facts & Figures 2009

Arabian Light crude oil production capacity. The gas facilities at the Khurais complex treat the associated gas and have the capacity to handle 320 million scfd of gas and 70,000 bpd of condensate. Our AFK (Abu Hadriya, Fadhili and Khursaniyah) project encompassed an oil increment of 500,000 bpd and a gas plant with a processing capacity of 1 billion scfd of associated and nonassociated gas. In July 2009, we commissioned a new gas-oil separation plant (GOSP) at Shaybah, adding 250,000 bpd of production capacity for a total of 750,000 bpd.

The fourth oil increment to come on-stream in 2009 was our Nuayyim increment, which added 100,000 bpd of Arabian Super Light crude oil and 90 million scfd of associated gas to the Company s production capacity. Nuayyim marked the first time the preliminary design was performed entirely by an in-kingdom engineering firm. Numerous gas production and processing projects constituted a substantial portion of our capital program and many of these projects were completed or nearly completed in The Khursaniyah Gas Plant neared completion in 2009, with the first gas trains, representing about 70 percent of the total plant capacity, mechanically complete by year-end. The plant is projected to be on-stream in June The Hawiyah Gas Plant was expanded to process an additional 800 million scfd 7 Saudi Aramco Facts & Figures 2009

of nonassociated gas, raising the plant s capacity to 2.4 billion scfd. The fractionation capacity of the Ju aymah Gas Plant was increased, adding more than 260,000 bpd of ethane plus NGL fractionation capacity for a total of 815,000 bpd of fractionation capacity. In addition, propane plus NGL fractionation capacity was increased by 100,000 bpd, for a total of 750,000 bpd. The NGL fractionation capacity of our Yanbu Gas Plant was increased from 390,000 bpd to 585,000 bpd to meet increasing demand for ethane as a petrochemical feedstock, specifically at the Yanbu and Rabigh petrochemical complexes. The most significant gas project on the near horizon is our Karan program, the first nonassociated offshore gas increment in our

history. When completed in 2013, the increment will be capable of delivering 1.8 billion scfd of raw gas via a 110-km subsea pipeline to the Khursaniyah Gas Plant. In refining and petrochemicals, we observed the completion of a project to expand capacity and add petrochemical production capability to the Fujian equity venture refinery in China and noted significant progress on the major expansion of the Motiva refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, in the United States. In Saudi Arabia, we moved forward with plans to build two new refineries with a combined capacity of 800,000 bpd. 9 Working with Japan s Sumitomo Chemical Co. Ltd., the Petro Rabigh venture, an integrated refinery and petrochemical plant located on the Red Sea coast, commenced production of Saudi Aramco Facts & Figures 2009

petrochemicals. Together with The Dow Chemical Co., we made progress on a project to build a petrochemical production facility. We are also considering other refining and petrochemical projects, including a second phase of Petro Rabigh. The past year also witnessed a renewed dedication to corporate citizenship, both in Saudi Arabia and in the international communities where the Company and its affiliates operate. Outreach efforts focused on creating sustainable programs in four key pillars: the economy, knowledge, community and the environment.
