5 General information Information on this manual This manual contains important information and instructions along with application diagrams (maximum sash sizes and sash weights) as well as installation instructions regarding further work with the hardware. This manual also contains binding guidelines to ensure that the duty to instruct is observed through to the end user. The information and instructions in this manual refer to the products of the Roto NT hardware system. 10 General information Limitation of liability All of the specifications and information in this document have been compiled based on the relevant standards and regulations, and state-of-the-art development, along with many years of knowledge and experience. The hardware manufacturer shall not accept liability for damages resulting from: Failure to comply with this document and all product-specific documents and related applicable directives (refer to the chapters on Safety and Designated use). Non-designated use/misuse (refer to the chapters on Safety and Designated use). Inadequate invitation to tender, failure to comply with the mounting instructions or application diagrams. Increased soiling. Claims by third parties against the hardware manufacturer on the grounds of damages resulting from misuse or failure to follow the instruction obligation on the part of the hardware dealer, the manufacturer of windows and balcony doors, the building element dealer or the builder shall be transferred accordingly. 11 Security Designated use Turn-Only and Tilt&Turn are one-turn hardware products designed for windows and balcony doors in building construction. They are designed to allow movement of window and balcony door sashes into a turned position or, in the case of the scissor stay variant, a restricted tilted position using a handle. Turn-Only and Tilt&Turn hardware is suitable for use on vertically installed windows and balcony doors made of wood, plastic, aluminium or steel and the corresponding material combinations. Turn-Only and Tilt&Turn hardware as covered by this definition locks window and balcony door sashes or allows them to be manipulated into various ventilation positions. When closing the window or balcony door, the counterforce of the seal usually has to be overcome. The designated use also includes adhering to all the specifications in the product-specific documents, such as: These installation, maintenance and operating instructions Product catalogues Information and specifications provided by the profile manufacturer (e.g. plastic or light metal profiles, etc.) The relevant directives TBDK and VHBE by the Quality Assurance Association: Locks and Hardware (Gütegemeinschaft Schlösser und Beschläge e. V.) The valid national laws and policies Any type of use that goes beyond or differs from the designated use shall be regarded as misuse. WARNING! Danger resulting from misuse! 12 Security Designated use for end users Turn-Only and Tilt&Turn hardware The windows and sashes of windows and balcony doors with Turn-Only and Tilt&Turn hardware can be brought into a turn position or a restricted tilting position using the scissor stay function. When a sash is closed and the hardware is locked, the resistance of a seal usually has to be overcome. WARNING! Risk of injury and property damage from incorrect closing and opening of the sashes Incorrect closing and opening of sashes can result in severe injuries and significant property damage. Therefore: Ensure when closing the sash that it does not slam against the frame or another sash. Ensure that the sash is guided slowly by hand throughout the entire range of movement up to the fully closed position, and that it is moved towards the frame very slowly. Ensure that the sash never slams shut or swings open in an uncontrolled manner. Any use beyond or other than the stipulated use and installation of the products is deemed to be misuse, and may lead to hazardous situations. WARNING! Danger resulting from misuse! Misuse of windows and balcony doors can lead to hazardous situations. The following types of use, in particular, should be avoided: Placing obstacles in the opening area between the frame and the window/balcony door sashes. Deliberate or negligent application of excessive loads on windows and balcony doors. Deliberate or uncontrolled slamming or pushing of windows and balcony doors against the window opening. This can irreparably damage the hardware, frame materials, or other individual window or balcony door components. 13 Security Safety instructions Turn-Only and Tilt&Turn hardware, safety symbols Always observe the following symbols and their meanings to avoid accidents, injuries and property damage. 15 Security Fabrication advice Maximum sash sizes and weights The technical data, application diagrams and component classifications contained in the hardware manufacturer s product-specific documentation, provide information on the maximum permitted sash sizes and weights. The component with the smallest permitted load bearing capacity thus determines the maximum permitted sash weight. Check compliance with the technical data, application diagrams, and component classifications before using electronic data records, and particularly before implementing them in window-fabricating programmes. The maximum permissible sash sizes and weights must never be exceeded. If in doubt, contact the hardware manufacturer. Guidelines from the profile manufacturer The window and balcony door manufacturer must comply with all specified system dimensions (e.g. gasket gap dimension and lock clearances). Furthermore, the manufacturer must check these dimensions regularly to ensure they are correct, especially on the first use of new hardware components, during manufacture, and as an on-going process up to and including the installation of the windows. NOTE! In principle, the hardware components should be designed so that the system dimensions can be adjusted if affected by the hardware. If a deviation from these dimensions is not noticed until after the windows have been installed, the hardware manufacturer shall not be held liable for any additional work required as a result. Hardware composition Burglary inhibiting windows and balcony doors require hardware that fulfils particular requirements. Windows and balcony doors for damp rooms, and those for use in environments with aggressive and corrosive air content, require hardware that fulfils particular requirements. The resistance of windows and balcony doors to wind loads when closed and locked, depends on the actual designs of the windows and balcony doors. Wind loads prescribed by law and standards (e.g. as per EN especially test pressure P3) can be dissipated by the hardware system. In general, the Turn-Only and Tilt&Turn hardware defined in this document complies with legal and standard requirements for accessible dwellings. The hardware combinations and installations suitable for windows and balcony doors in the previously mentioned areas should be specifically selected and agreed upon with the hardware manufacturer and profile manufacturer. NOTE! The hardware manufacturer s specifications relating to the hardware composition (e.g. the use of additional scissor-stays, the design of the hardware for burglary-inhibiting sashes for windows and balcony doors, etc.) are binding. 16 Security Screwed connection DANGER! Risk of fatal injury from incorrectly installed and attached hardware components! Incorrect installation and improper screwed connection of hardware components can lead to hazardous situations and cause severe or even fatal accidents. Therefore: For installation and especially for screw fixtures, observe the product-specific documentation provided by the hardware manufacturer, the profile manufacturer s specifications, and all contents of the TBDK directive by the Quality Assurance Association: Locks and Hardware (Gütegemeinschaft Schlösser und Beschläge). For fixing the hardware components, galvanised, zinc-plated and passivated steel fenestration screws (Ø x...) should be used, while fenestration screws with additional seals must be implemented in the event of increased climatic stresses. The window manufacturer must ensure that the hardware components are fixed adequately, consulting the screw manufacturer if necessary. When fixing safety-relevant, supportive hardware components such as stay bearings and pivot rests, the pull-out strength horizontal to the sash plane surface must be reached in accordance with the following tables (the tensile force values depend on the sash weights in the TBDK). Sash weight in kg Tensile force in N 1) ) permissible tolerance -10 %. The specified values refer to the stay bearing. These are also valid for the pivot rest if this is fixed in place using the same method as the stay bearing. For sash weights of up to 80 kg, compliance with the values in the table can usually be achieved using high-quality screws with a profile screw fixture that penetrates at least 2 profile walls, the first of which should be at least 2.8 mm thick. For sash weights over 80 kg, a supplementary fixing into the reinforcement profile or profile insertions according to the profile system, is necessary. The required value can also be achieved without supplementary measures by using frame hinges for a sash weight of up to 130 kg. Do not use any acid cross-linked sealing compounds that could lead to corrosion of the hardware components. The detailed adjusting dimensions are provided in these installation instructions. The NT striker concept All strikers in the Roto NT hardware system have identical screwing axes. This concept makes it possible to prefit the sash with security cams, and to retrofit the frame with security strikers (zinc or steel) at a later date. Any locking cam variant can be combined with any striker. The surface finish RotoSil Nano surface finish for a unique, elegant, matt and uniform silver finish.
