Version 3.0 Smart Power is a power socket with built-in automatic for start/stop-function of fans and motor dampers in proces ventilation units. Smart Power operates so that when a connected machine, e.g. a welder, achieves a comsumption that is larger than its idle consumption (set point), a relay is activated that then can be used for activation of i.e. motor dampers and fans in the unit. This means that there is only extraction when needed with the advantages of reduced costs to electricity and heating among other things. Because the automatic is built into CEE-socket the installation is made easy. Power socket is equipped with two internal trimmers, one for coarse adjustment for sensitivity and one for afterrunning adjustment. Afterrunning is the time the relay outlet still is active after end use of the connected machine, e.g. a welder. Inside power socket there is a sensor, which one of the connected phases must pass through. This sensor then register, when there is a consumption over the idle consumption which the connected machine has. Set point can be adjusted to a consumption between approx. 0 and 60 amp. Relay activation occurs at an additional consumption of min. 0.5 A.

3 Instructions for operation and connection The phase that together with zero is used for supply of Smart Power print should not be the same that goes through sensor. (Except at machines that only are connected to one phase.) At combi-sockets (16A with 230V socket on front) it is important the phase used in 230V-socket is connected together with the phase that goes through sensor. Adjustment When current is connected to Smart Power socket the diode on front shines green for a short moment. Immediately after that socket goes to standby and diode shines red. Move coarse sensitivity adjuster in standard setting. (Center. Is adjusted so from here.) Turn on the connected welder/machine, weld so shortly so possible blowers will start. Turn off Smart Power with a long push on the black button (red light goes out). Wait for a moment and turn it on again with a long push until diode shines green and then release. When light-emitting diode after a short moment shines red again, Smart Power socket is adjusted to the actual idle consumption on welder. (The higher idle consumption is, the longer time diode shines green before shifts to red.) Is there an additional consumption of min. 1.2 A, relay is activated and diode shines green. Stops additional consumption the light-emitting diode fl ashes green in the set afterrunning. Afterrunning can be set from 1 sec. to approx. 4 minutes (is set at approx. 10 sec. from here). NB: If light-emitting diode shines green after ended set point adjustment and there is no consumption besides no-load current from the connected welder, then this consumpton is larger than 7A. This is turned down with coarse sensitivity adjuster. If on the other hand there is a smaller additional consumption than 1.2A at welding (diode does not shine green during welding), then sensitivity must be increased. Is done by turning up coarse sensitivity (clockwise). Daily application When current is connected diode on front shines red after approx. 2 sec. (standby mode) and during welding it shines green. After welding diode shines green in the set afterrunning, after which it shines red again. At short push of button in front diode shines yellow and Smart Power socket is now in manual mode (use e.g. if welding with gas). At renewed short push diode fl ashes yellow in the set afterrunning and shines after that red again. At manual application Smart Power goes automatically in standby after 30 min. Must then be activated again. Activated externally this feature only works, if there is used a momentary switch for activation. Is e.g. a toggle switch with fi xed setting used, Smart Power stays in manual as long as it is activated. Is button activated with a long push (approx. 2 sec.), Smart Power is turned off completely and light goes out. Turned on again with a short push. In standby mode (red light) there is approx. a short fl ash approx. every 5 sec. This indicates that socket works correctly. In automatic mode diode shines green as long as there is consumption over the set set point. In manual mode (yellow light) activated on front there is a short fl ash approx. every 5 sec. This indicated also that socket works correctly. In manual mode externally activated there is two fl ashes approx. every 5 sec.

4 Possible faults Manual works, but automatic does not work. There is no consumption on the phase that goes through sensor. Automatic function can easily be checked by fast turning coarse sensitivity up and down again 3-4 times. Does diode on front shine green and after that fl ashes in the set afterrunning, Smart Power socket is fine. Cannot be operated. Light-emitting diode on front shines yellow the whole time: External manual switch is activated with a switch with fi xed setting (not momentary). Can be seen on the yellow light (2 fl ashes fast after each other approx. every 5 sec.) Completely dead. No light on front: Is not connected to supply. 24V-outlet short-circuited. Print fuse is blown (load on 230V outlet). Automatic set point cannot be adjusted. Light-emitting diode shines green the whole time: Idle consumption from the connected welder/ machine is too large. Turn it down with coarse sensitivity adjuster. Is less sensitivity required turn trimmer anti-clockwise. Completely dead and blows print fuse, even though nothing is connected in 230V outlet. Has probably been connected to 380V. If varistor is black-burnt, this has been the case. Has worked on automatic, but does not go to afterrunning after ended welding. Diode shines green constantly; Idle consumption has suddenly changed. Possible coolers have possibly started.

Danson NB: The phase to be measured on must only go once straight through the sensor and it is important to check that there is a consumption on this phase, when the connected welder/machine is working. Must external switch at extraction hood be connected, a shielded cable should be used between this and Smart Power socket. Shield is connected on Smart Power print in terminal gnd (together with terminal 1 for damper motor). Shield is not connected to anything at the other end. Flat cable from lid is put over the four-pole plug in the print end. Be careful it is not trapped, when lid is screwed on. Point on connector must be placed in the same side as point on print plug.
