1 Classification: Reference: Date: BT NTB October 26, QUEST; REVISED SLIDING DOOR INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE APPLIED VEHICLES: Quest (V42) with power sliding doors. IF YOU CONFIRM: The sliding door(s) need to be Initialized for any of the following reasons, Sliding door control unit is replaced. Sliding door motor is replaced. Sliding door is adjusted. Sliding door panel is replaced or repaired. Body panel near sliding door is replaced or repaired. Any sliding door roller is replaced or adjusted. Any sliding door striker is replaced or adjusted. Any sliding door dovetail is replaced or adjusted. Sliding door lock assembly is replaced. Rear rail is replaced. Sliding door weatherstrip is replaced. Sliding door contact switch is replaced or adjusted. ACTION: Use the revised Initialization procedure in this bulletin. NOTE: Please use this procedure until the ESM Service Manual Amendment (SMA) becomes available. It will be provided at a later date. CLAIMS INFORMATION The Initialization procedure is part of the sliding door repairs and should not be claimed as a separate repair item. IMPORTANT: The purpose of "ACTIONS" (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire procedure (starting on page 2), as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair. 2 SLIDING DOOR INITIALIZATION PROCDURE NOTE: The following procedure is for one sliding door. It must be repeated (if needed) on a second door. 1. Open the sliding door. 2. Turn the ignition key ON. 3. Turn the Automatic Door Main Switch OFF. Figure 1 4. Within 3 seconds after step 3, press the sliding door B-pillar switch (LH or RH, depending on which door you are initializing) 10 times within 10 seconds. Figure 2 5. Within 3 seconds after step 4, turn the ignition key OFF ON. You should hear three (3) sliding door warning chimes. The three chimes indicate the controller has entered initialization mode. Normal door functions are disabled during initialization. 2/3

3 SIDE GUARD MOLDING SIDE GUARD MOLDING PFP:76840 EIS001VU REMOVAL CAUTION: Never apply tack-paper adhesive remover to body panel surface finished with lacquer-based paints. Original side guard molding is affixed to body panel with double-faced adhesive tape. 1. Heat molding to between 30 and 40 C (86 to 104 F) with a heat gun. 2. Raise end of molding and cut away tape to remove molding. Remove all traces of tape. 3. Remove LH rear combination lamp. Refer to LT-124, "REAR COMBINATION LAMP". 4. Remove screw from slide door rail cover. 5. Open sliding door and release the front clip. 6. Close sliding door. Carefully pull off slide door rail cover releasing clips so as not to deform body sheet metal. 7. Remove door sash cover. Remove screw from top of door sash cover. Pull bottom of door sash cover outward and pull up off hooks. INSTALLATION On vehicles coated with Hard Clear Coat, use double-faced 3M adhesive tape Product No or equivalent, after priming with 3M primer Product No. N200 or C-100 or equivalent. The repair parts are also affixed with double-faced adhesive tape. To re-use existing molding, clean all traces of double sided tape from the molding and apply new doublefaced tape to the molding. 1. Clean the panel surface with isopropyl alcohol or equivalent to degrease the surface. 2. Heat the panel and molding tape surface to 30 to 40 C (86 to 104 F). 3. Remove the backing sheet from the tape surface. 4. Press ends by hand and use a roller to apply 5 kg-f (11 lbs-f) to press molding to door surface. Revision: January 2005 EI-26 LIIA0580E 2004 Quest

Rear pillar upper finisher RH CENTER PILLAR LOWER FINISHER 1. Remove seat belt anchor. Refer to SB-4, " of Front Seat Belt". 2. Remove front and rear kicking plates. 3. Remove center pillar lower finisher. Disconnect harness to back door opener switch. Installation is in the reverse order of removal. CENTER PILLAR UPPER FINISHER 1. Remove seat belt shoulder anchor and D ring. Refer to SB-4, " of Front Seat Belt". 2. Remove front and rear kicking plates. 3. Remove center pillar lower finisher. 4. Remove cover and screws. 5. Remove center pillar upper finisher. Installation is in the reverse order of removal. REAR CENTER PILLAR FINISHER 1. Remove rear kicking plate. 2. Remove rear kick escutcheon. 3. Remove rear lower finisher assembly. Refer to EI-34, "REAR LOWER FINISHER ASSEMBLY". 4. Remove cover and screws from rear center pillar finisher. 5. Remove rear center pillar finisher. Installation is in the reverse order of removal. DASH SIDE FINISHER 1. Remove front kicking plate. 2. Remove upper dash side finisher. 3. Remove lower dash side finisher. CAUTION: Insert screw driver rolled with cloth between panel on vehicle and clip (as indicated with arrow), and disconnect clip. Installation is in the reverse order of removal. No other changes have been made. Please discard previous copies of this bulletin. APPLIED VEHICLES: Quest (V42) IF YOU CONFIRM You need to replace the sliding door motor or cable (closure) assembly for any reason. ACTION As needed for the repair, replace only the motor or only the cable assembly with the part listed in the Parts Information section. NOTE: These parts are now available separately. Do not replace the entire assembly when only the motor or only the cable assembly is needed. 9 CLAIMS INFORMATION Submit a Primary Failed Part (PP) line claim using the following claims coding: DESCRIPTION PFP OP CODE SYM DIA FRT RPL Sliding Door Motor (1) UL31AA ZE 32 (2) (1) Refer to the electronic parts catalog (FAST or equivalent) and use the appropriate Slide Door Closure Motor (Right or Left Side) part number as the Primary Failed Part (PFP). (2) Reference the current Nissan Warranty Flat Rate Manual and use the indicated flat rate time. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Remove the sliding door motor and cable assembly. Refer to the BL section in the applicable Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for removal/installation instructions. Cable assembly 2. Remove the motor from the cable assembly. Motor 3. As needed for the repair, replace the motor or cable assembly with the part listed in the Parts Information section. Figure 1 4. Pull the two ends of the cable to ensure the cable is not tangled inside the drum housing. 5. Confirm the bushing is in the location shown in Figure 2. Bushing Figure 2 2/3 NTB09-113a

Tension pulleys in park position 6. Confirm both tension pulleys (j-hooks) are in the park position. Figure 3 7. Install the motor onto the cable assembly. Torque the motor mounting bolts to: 3.8-4.

Torque the motor mounting bolts to: N m ( kg-m, in-lb). Motor Motor mounting bolts Figure 4 8. Move the tension pulleys to the active (un-park) position. Move tension pulleys to active position 9. Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Figure 5 3/3 NTB09-113a

11 6. Turn the Automatic Door Main Switch ON. Figure 3 7. Press and hold the driver's overhead Sliding Door Open / Close Switch (LH or RH, depending on which door you are initializing) until the sliding door completely closes and stops; then release the switch. Figure 4 8. Press and hold the same sliding door switch again, until the door completely opens and stops; then release the switch. (Same switch as step 7.) 9. Press and hold the same switch again, until the door completely closes and stops; then release the switch. (Same switch as step 7 and 8.) 10. Turn the ignition key OFF. One sliding door is now initialized. The initialized door will now operate normally. If needed, repeat steps 1 through 10 for a second sliding door. 3/3
