5 Compression Couplings with Stainless-Steel Gasket Protectors You can eliminate costly downtime and replacement of coupling gaskets in your vacuum conveying system. Morris Gasket Protectors provide positive gasket protection against abrasion or corrosion with no adverse effect on Coupling capabilities. They prevent gasket wear which occurs when pipe or tubing ends do not butt completely. This gap is often unavoidable and always undetectable. In vacuum systems, gaskets without Protectors can be drawn into the line enough to cause excessive wear and eventual system leaks. This may result in undesirable contamination of the materials being handled. Morris Couplings with Gasket Protectors fully eliminate these costly hazards to the effective and economical operation of vacuum conveying systems. Are factory assembled no loose parts. Automatically compensate for field installation variations causing exposure of gaskets prevent pinched gaskets at butt connections. Gasket Protectors are of Type 304 stainless steel with interlocking teeth excellent for protection against abrasion and corrosion. For special corrosive applications, specify Teflon Gasket Protectors*. Gasket Protectors are for use with Morris Compression Couplings only and are not recommended for couplings less than 6" long. 19 Morris Heli-Groove TM Angel Hair Is A Devilish Problem Look inside the smooth tubing used by some processors to pneumatically convey plastic pellets. You ll probably see it clogged with a special kind of clutter: angel hair. Angel hair naturally forms when the pellets abrade against the inside of this smooth tubing. Adhering to the inside of the bends, it clogs system terminals and filters, leads to product loss and causes production downtime. In general, angel hair can cause one devil of a problem. Standard Tubing Heli-Groove TM Prevents Angel-Hair Residue From Collecting Some plastic pellets cannot be conveyed by conventional smooth tubing. The angel-hair problem requires special treatment. 20 Ceramic-Backed Elbows The CERAM-BACK-ELBOW TM has a jacket across the back of the core elbow which is approximately 1/2" of ceramic compound. This compound has a Mohs hardness of 9+, second only to diamond which has a Mohs hardness of 10. The ceramic jacket and core elbow is then wrapped with an exterior material to maintain the hoop strength. Once the ceramic compound has been applied, it receives a finished coat of paint. 21 Ceramic-Lined Elbows Ceramic-lined bends have a uniform coating of a specially formulated ceramic material that is added to the inside diameter of the bend to give it a very hard, slippery, glass-like surface. The hardness of the ceramic coating is between 5 and 6 on the Mohs Scale as hard as glass and just as smooth. The exterior of the bend has the appearance of annealed steel and can be easily painted. 18

22 Wear-Backed Elbows In highly abrasive applications, Morris offers several designs/options of wear-resistant extended-life elbows. All are designed for extending the life of your elbow; choice of design should be based upon customer preference and application experience with a given design. The basic concept is, once the core elbow has worn through, the cavity fills with the abrasive material and wears against itself, therefore, extending the life of the component.
