3 INTRODUCTION Your new John Deere Baler is a dependable machine. With proper care and operation, you can expect to receive the service and long life designed and built into it. Like any precision machine your baler will require some attention at regular intervals. When any questions arise regarding lubrication and adjustments, etc., use your manual as a guide to service your machine the RIGHT WAY. When ordering parts, give your dealer the model and serial number of your baler. This information will help him give you prompt and efficient service. The serial number of your baler is located on the lower left-hand side of the bale case in front of the wheel. (Record it in the space below.) If you need additional information or special service not covered in this manual, see your John Deere dealer. The warranty on this baler appears on your copy of the purchase order which you should have received from your dealer when you purchased the baler. 6 Service 31 NOTE: After connecting chain, relocate plungerhead face in center of slot. If feeder dimension doesnotmeasure between14-l/4and16-1/4 inches, retime feeder using the main drive chain instead of the feeder drive chain-fora finer adjustment. CAUTION: Using the main drive chain for timing will also affect the timing of the plungerhead to the needles. The needles may have to be retimed as described in Step No After the correct feeder teeth timing has been obtained, move the plungerhead through one complete cycle to make certain that the feeder teeth and the plungerhead clear each other when checked with feeder pivot pin in both top and bottom holes. 5. With the needles in "home" position, trip the bale measuring arm. Continue turning flywheel counterclockwise until the tip of the highest needle is flush with the top edge of the bale case bottom groove flanges. The face of the plungerhead should be 1/2 to 2-1/4 inches from the tip of the needle. If not, disconnect the knotter drive chain, and move plungerhead to within these limits. Replace the knotter drive chain. Adjust the chain idler. NOTE: If knotter drive chain is removed, place the needles (by in home position. Locate the points of the Plungerhead triangles (on compression stroke) directly above the tips of the needles. Trip the arm and raise the needles (by hand) until the tip of the highest needle is flush with the edge of the bale case bottom groove flanges. Move plungerhead face to 1-5/8 inch from tip of needle. Rotate clutch ring (counterclockwise) as shown until clutch ring contacts the trip dog roller. Replace the knotter drive chain and adjust the chain idler. It is preferable to adjust the plungerhead closer to the 2-1/4 inch rather than the 1/2- inch clearance between the needle and the face of the plungerhead.

7 Assembly 55 On John Deere 1010, 2010, 10, 20, 4010, and 4020 Tractors, connect the receptacle and cable as follows: NOTE: Use the receptacle as a template and drill the necessary holes to maunt the receptacle in the left-hand rockshaft housing cover 4-1/2 inches from the bottom of the cover. NOTE: On 1010 Row-Crop Tractors, attacha mounting bracket to upper, right-hand mounting hole in load and depth control arm. OnlOlO Utility Tractors attach mounting bracket to the lower, right-hand mounting hole in load and depth control spring housing. On all 101 o Tractors, attach receptacle bracket to the mounting bracket; then attach the receptacle. CAUTION: Do not allow the cable to interfere with any moving parts on the tractor. All excess cable must be secured in a safe area on the tractor. NOTE: On 10, 20, 4010, and 4020 Tractors, the cable must run between the battery case and the transmission housing. On2010 Tractors, run the cable under the foot platform and inside the cowl. CAUTION: Damage to baler engine 6-voit starter, may result if engine starter is used continously and engine does not start in a normal length of time.
