1 The patented Energy Control function allows the air flow to be adjusted easily to provide a comfortable indoor climate. This function also permits a choice of air flow patterns (two-way, one-way and intermediate setting). For even greater flexibility there is also a Motorized Energy Control (MEC) option. This option provides demand controlled ventilation, and in normal operation the beam is set to the chosen nozzle configuration. At times of heavy demand (increased supply air demand) the chilled beam is switched to Boost mode by a temperature sensor,co2 sensor or by pushing the boost button on the room controller. If a presence detector or pushbutton is installed in the room the beam can also be programmed to switch to Energy Saving Mode (ESM) when the premises are empty. 2 Energy Control EC Energy Control, EC, is a patent-pending function that allows the desired air flow to be adjusted easily in steps. This enables the chilled beam to be set for two-way, oneway or intermediate air distribution. The nozzle pattern is designed to permit optimum use of air to maximise the cooling/heating performance at every setting. EC consists of a nozzle track on each side of the chilled beam (left and right). The control track has six positions, with position 1 being the energy saving, low-flow position, while positions 2 5 are air flow positions for normal use and position 6 is a Boost position for periods when especially high air flow rates are required. But also the positions 2-5 can be used as a Boost position or as an energy saving position. On the beam Wega 135 the hole setting 1 (energy saving position) is completely closed. High/normal air flow The product code for the beam can be selected for Normal air flow or High air flow. High air flow settings 2 5 give a higher flow rate than the corresponding settings for the Normal track. Note that the Energy Saving settings 1 and Boost settings 6 are the same for both control tracks. In the illustration below the nozzles can be seen on the right (two rows), while the holes on the left are used for setting/indication. It can be seen that the nozzles for normal flow (nozzles 2 5) are larger in the high-flow track. High and normal air flow is available only on Stella. Nozzle track for normal air flow The desired setting is chosen by sliding the rail until the metal edge behind is centred in front of the marking of the rail. This marking looks different depending on the chilled beam. The examples below show the positions for setting 1, setting 4 and setting 6 on beam Stella. The diagrams also show which nozzles allow air to flow in each setting. Nozzle track for high air flow Because there is a nozzle track on each side it is possible to set each side for a different air flow by choosing different settings on each side. This cannot be combined with Motorized Energy Control (MEC). For more information on MEC, see the relevant section below. 3 MEC - option IQAZ-23-bb-c-d-e-f Adding MEC to the beam gives an unique degree of flexibility. A linear motor installed in the beam is connected by a link to the nozzle induction rail. Fläkt Woods controller now enables the chilled beam to actively respond to changes in the room, signalled by a pushbutton, temperature sensor, presence detector or carbon dioxide sensor. Nozzle track disengaged from motor. The Linear motor can change the airflow by changing the nozzle size from 1-6 (STELLA,WEGA and NOVA) and 1-3 (WEGA Power).This means that the MEC can be combined with Fläkt Woods STRA-14 controller to switch between Energy Saving mode, Normal Mode and Boost mode. Each of these 3 modes are then in the STRA-14 related to a nozzle size, thus when room controller change mode, the motor change airflow by changing the nozzles. Factory setting for STRA-14 is: Energy Saving mode is set to nozzle 1 (Nozzle 1-3) Normal mode is set to nozzle 2 (Nozzle 2-5) Boost mode is set to nozzle 6 (Nozzle 3-6) If the cooling power is too low or PPM level is too high at a certain mode, the room controller will if necessary increase the nozzle size step by step until the right cooling power/ppm level is reached. Thus the MEC together with STRA-14 is a demand controlled system utilizing nozzle 1-6/1-3 to get right conditions in the room.
