2 A T T A c H tr EXHAUSTER ATTACHMENT Where dry grinding predominates, this attachment will collect over 90% of the dust which might prove injurious to nearby machines or to the health of employees. The exhauster housing is bolted to the left side of the machine and driven by a flat leather belt. The aluminum fan is balanced, and the fan shaft is mounted on ball bearings fully protected from dirt and with provisions made for proper lubrication. The dust separator is of the centrifugal cyclonic type, in which the dust-laden air is whirled around inside against a baffle so that with the slowing down of the speed of the air, the dirt falls into the dust collector at the bottom of the separator. The dust collector is quickly and easily detached. An aluminum exhaust nozzle is attached to the wheel guard and is adjustable to allow for wheel wea r, and this nozzle is connected to the exhauster by a 3" diameter reinforced rubber fabric exhaust hose supported by two steel arms fastened to the column of the machine. Other particulars regarding this exhauster may be found under the heading of "Motorized Exhauster." MOTORIZED DUST EXHAUST This exhauster is a self-contained unit which be used, not only with grinding machines, but ever dust removal is required. For 60 cycle current, a I 0" fan with a % HP is used, operating at 3450 RPM. For 50 cycle... ~. a 12" fan and % HP motor is used operating 2950 RPM. For 25 cycle current, a % HP motor - used, operating at 1450 RPM. The latter is a plished by mounting the motor on a platform and ning the exhauster with a belt. The Dust Separatorof the centrifugal type. The Dust Collector, a bottom of the Separator is easily removable emptying. The Exhaust Hose is reinforced rubb.r fabric material 3" inside diameter and 8 ft. A suction equivalent to approximately 7" of water in a U tube is obtained, and tests have shown that separator is over 90% efficient in removing cast iron and steel dust from the air. The entire unit weighs approximately 130 lbs. net and occupies 5 sq. ft. of floor space. z 0

3 N T s A N D s I CUP WHEEL HEAD Some types of grinding can best be accomplished by face grinding. This adaptation of the cup or cylinder type wheel is particularly efficient. The horizontal spindle is carried on ball bearings and is provided with ball bearing end thrust with automatic adjustment. This type of grinding requires a coolant, therefore the wet grinding attachment is standard equipment with this machine. Power feed is provided only for the table traverse, but if required a special automatic cross feed with extremely fine adjustments may be installed on special order. MULTIPLE WHEEL HEAD In some cases the use of two or more wheels will give greater production. This design lends itself to a number of special types of grinding. The spacing of wheels may be from 0 to 61f2". Wheels of different diameters may be used and a fixture provided with fixed adjustable diamonds to maintain the relative sizes of the wheels. NOTE: Both of the above assemblies are special and cannot be furnished for the standard head. T ~ ey are supplied only on special order with a new machine. MOTORIZED SPINDLE A Motorized Spindle may be provided for the No. 3B machine which is similar in design and construction to that used on the No. llf2 Abrasive Surface Grinder which has proven so popular. This method of mounting the motor directly on the wheel head eliminates the use of any belts, chains or sprockets for the driving of the spindle. The extremely well balanced motor, the rotor being mounted on the wheel spindle, which may be either of the plain or ball bearing type, delivers full power with freedom from vibration. When this design is used the longitudinal and transverse feeds are driven from a small1f2 HP motor in the base of the machine. The motorized type of No. 3B Surface Grinder using 1750 RPM Motors with 12" dia. wheel has a vertical capacity of I I" from the table to the cutting edge of a full size wheel. If 3450 RPM motors are used 7" dia. wheels are furnished which increases the vertical capacity to 131f2". It is driven from the main motor and becomes an integral part of the machine. The armature rotates counter-clockwise at 2200 RPM and is carried on high grade ball bearings, thus consuming very little power. The frame is totally enclosed to protect all moving parts from grit or accident. It is the highest grade product procurable for the purpose, and requires the minimum of attention. A field rheostat is unnecessary. When ordered with the machine, we install and wire direct to the Chuck Switch. This unit furnishes a 115 volt Direct Current, 150 Watts for Nos. 3B and 34 Machines, and 400 Watts for Nos. 5 and 6 Machines. HARDENED AND THREAD GROUND SCREWS Long precision life of Abrasive Grinders is assured by the installation of hardened and ground tool steel micrometer cross feed and elevating screws. These very accurately ground hardened screws not only prolong the life of the screws themselves but also the part to which they are mated. HARDENED AND GROUND WAYS The Abrasive No. 3B is particularly well designed to take hardened and ground tool steel ways on the table, saddle and bed V-ways. The flat seats for each set or pair are accurately machined in the same plane and hand scraped to heavy box-type surface plates. The ways are made from rectangular bar stock, (high carbon chrome steel). 3/16 of an inch up to % is machined from the side which is to be the bearing surface to insure a perfect grain structure. Furthermore, to insure an even hardness all surfaces of the ways are ground before hardening. After hardening each way is tested from one end to the other for a hardness of Rockwell "C" Scale. The grinding of all the ways, flat and Vee, is done on an ABRASIVE No. 6. The ways are held in very accurate, heavy fixtures so as to eliminate all strains. After grinding, the ways are screwed and doweled in position, and lapped by a special process until an excellent bearing is obtained between all ways. We believe our design of hardened and ground ways is superior to all others because of the simplicity and economy of manufacture, and maintenance. The ways are easily removable for regrinding and can be reground on an ordinary tool-room grinder of sufficient capacity to grind the largest individual way which is 39" long and 2" wide.

5 E A T u R E s hat he ing cast 130 lbs. net MOTORIZED PUMP (CENTRIFUGAL) The Coolant Pump is very simple, yet sturdily designed. It comprises a housing in which is mounted the pump shaft. On the lower end of the pump shaft an aluminum impeller is affixed and the rotor of the Y4 HP motor is pressed onto the other end of the shaft. One ball bearing mounted in the pump housing about 3" above the water level, takes care of end thrust, and in conjunction with the upper motor bearing, comprises the entire bearing of the pump shaft. The pump shaft revolves at the motor speed which in the case of 60 cycle current is 1750 RPM. The same volume of flow is obtained by using a slightly la rger impeller with 1450 RPM motors. The entire pump is fastened to a large circular casting which ac s as a platform so that no clamping of any kind is necessary. The intake opening is above the impeller so as to prevent any sediment in the bottom of the tank being pumped through the system. The pump has a capacity of 61f2 gallons per minute against a 5 foot head. WET GRINDING ATTACHMENT Quite a large percentage of work may be ground more efficiently by the use of a coolant. The wet grinding attachment (see cut below) has been d& signed to furnish an ample supply of coolant to the grinding wheel. Especial attention has been given to the matter of supplying a coolant free from dirt or grinding particles. This is accomplished by the use of a large tank of 27 gallons capacity, and various baffles and partitions are built into this tank in such a manner that maximum sedimentation is effected. The coolant tank is mounted on four casters and provided with a handle so that it may be readily moved about for the purpose of emptying and cleaning. The wet grinding attachment consists of adjustable table water guards, large diameter radiator hose, water nozzle and shut-off, rubber supply hose, spray guard, Motorized centrifugal pump and tank.

If for any reason it fails to give this satisfaction, we will replace it without charge immediately upon written or telegraphic notice from the customer, giving the Serial Number of the machine. Attempts upon the part of the customer or any other person not an authorized agent or representative of this Company to adjust the Spindle; the use of low grade or other than recognized spindle oil; abuse through lack of oiling; or any other evident proofs of carelessness, will be sufficient basis for us to charge the customer for the cost of putting the returned assembly back into salable condition.
