Coil handling is smoothly and effectively accomplished by the spindle supporting the inside diameter of the coil to completely eliminate any contact with the surface or edges of stock as it is uncoiled. American Reels are designed for two types of operation - either "Pull-off" where the next machine in the line pulls the stock from the reel, or "Driven Spindle" where powered rotation of the spindle causes stock to feed into a slack loop between the reel and the next machine in the line. All American Reels offer as standard a variable speed drive and an adjustable loop control. With adjustable speed and an adjustable loop control, the American Reel wi II run smoothly and effortlessly. All American Reels are of all steel weldment construction. They are designed to meet the specified requirements with the assurance of long life and trouble free operation. All Model 60 Reels have heavy duty Timken bearing supported arbors. American also offers coil restrictors "keepers" as standard equipment. Optional equipment on Non-Powered Reels are electric brakes or air regulated brakes. Optio,nal equipment on powered reels that can be installed are Eddy Current Drives, D.C. Drives, Electric Clutches & Brakes, and Air Clutches & Brakes. 3

Reel Built to Customers Specifications American Reels Series 1000 are available powered or non powered. Non powered reels have a spring loaded mechanical brake which can be adjusted. All powered reels have variable speed. By utilizing the 3 to 1 ratio drives, the arbor of the reel as well as the motor drive will run smooth. The loop control is of an adjustable type with two rotory cams which actuate two limit switches, one for starting and one for stopping. All reels contain the finest of materials with the utmost in simplicity. All rotating parts are mounted on heavy duty tapered roller and ball bearings for maximum efficiency with a minimum cost of operation. An important feature of all American 1000 series reels is the use of wedges for expanding the arbor. Wedge type expansion insures smooth and easy loading whether the operator expands the mandrel mechanically or hydraulically. All American Reels of capacities of 30,000 pounds and up are specifically designed to meet the need of the customer. American 6,000, 10,000 and 20,000 lbs. reels are always available with very little delay in delivery. Such items as drives, arbor assemblies, cabinets are always in stock.
