1 Est. June 2004 President s Message: This is how we DID it Well, this has been a busy 2nd year for us. Our club s membership has grown by 75%. B-TRIPLE-C, we have been real busy! During the holiday season, we are often reminded of the blessings we receive. I look back over the year and reminisce about the many events our club has sponsored and attended. We celebrated our 2nd Anniversary party in June! We now have two locations EVERY WEEK where we can Meet & Greet folks with Vettes. Every Friday at the Boulevard at Capital Plaza (6p-10p) with Top Flight Corvette Club and Saturdays (5p 7p) with Friends With Corvettes Club of Baltimore at Security Square Mall. We have invited other Corvette Clubs as well as Vette Owners to come share in the excitement. We also have Super Sunday Cruises to scenic points in the area (Thanks Bazz). These weekly events have further enhanced our club as one of the best if not THE BEST Corvette Club in Maryland. My goal is to have a Corvette Weekend where all Corvette Clubs can get together for a weekend of fun. As always, we look for people who share in the love and lifestyle of the car, but more than that, a strong sense of camaraderie of belonging to a family of Vette owners. Big shout out to the UCCC family and new incoming officers of UCCC. (See page 6) Special shout out to Shawn Chambers who is recovering at home from surgery. We need you brother! We hope to add some other very important information on how to s in the near future as well. More to come!!!! My Bea Gaddy Thanksgiving Day Run Experience By Denise Lady Red Blagmon When our club member Tom Davis approached me with the idea to coordinate a food donation run for the Bea Gaddy Thanksgiving Day

Since we were working with a two week deadline, I asked Tom to make contact with the working group at the Bea Gaddy Center to determine what types of donations they preferred for this worthy cause.

10 My Bea Gaddy Thanksgiving Day Run Experience By Denise Lady Red Blagmon When our club member Tom Davis approached me with the idea to coordinate a food donation run for the Bea Gaddy Thanksgiving Day meal, I saw this as yet another opportunity for the Baltimore County Corvette Club to give support to our local community. Since we were working with a two week deadline, I asked Tom to make contact with the working group at the Bea Gaddy Center to determine what types of donations they preferred for this worthy cause. After checking with our Officers, I sent an out to all club members giving details on what we wanted to do, what was needed to be donated and when we would be delivering the donations to the center. Almost immediately responses were coming back that this was a great idea and members would be willing to help. I am proud to say that the morning of November 18, 2006, when we met at the Security Square Mall (Meet & Greet location), there were five Corvettes packed with donations. This was achieved because of the generosity of club members and friends assisting us in this venture. When B-TRIPLE-C members; Tom Davis, Bob Bloom, Bill Parker, Mike Foster and I arrived at the center that afternoon, I heard one of the young men call out, the Corvettes are here! It was a heartwarming experience to see so many young people coming out of the center to help unload donations. We had a great time talking to the kids about the cars, taking pictures of them and giving them positive feedback on the great job they were doing. We also spoke with volunteers and discovered that this center is open 365 days of the year helping out the community. They maintain a women s shelter, daily soup kitchen, Sunday Family meal, clothing donation center and a Christmas Dinner and Toy Giveaway project in addition to the yearly Thanksgiving Day meal. They were truly appreciative of everything we provided and we assured them that the Baltimore County Corvette Club would be back stronger next year! Mike s Garage Tips: Storing your Vette for the winter! by Mike Foster, VP/Treasurer & Tech Guru Storage of a Vette for winter (or any other reason) is essentially the same as for any vehicle.

11 Mike s Garage Tips: Storing your Vette for the winter! by Mike Foster, VP/Treasurer & Tech Guru Storage of a Vette for winter (or any other reason) is essentially the same as for any vehicle. Here are a few ideas to get you started. These steps can be followed if you are storing in a garage, outside, or in one of the "bag" storage units. EXTERIOR Wash and completely dry the car. Apply your choice of protective coatings to the finish, tires, and to the weather-stripping. I prefer carnauba wax, Ibiz tire and rubber protectant, and silicone grease, respectively. INTERIOR Vacuum and dust the interior as you would in preparation for a car show. Clean scuff marks with Lexol Cleaner and wipe all plastic/vinyl parts with Lexol. Apply a good quality leather protectant to the seats (and steering wheel), allow to sit for awhile and buff off with a soft cloth. When the car is located at the actual storage site, unlatch the top or roof panel. This will release pressure and stress on the weather-stripping and the latch mechanisms. If you live in a humid area of the country you might consider getting some of the moisture attractant bags. Place them on plastic bags, on the floor mats on either side of the car. Remove all candy, medications, tobacco, and detailing products from the car before final door closing; these thing can spoil, give off fumes, attract animals and moisture and generally result in a mess if left in the car during storage. ENGINE Change the oil and filter. Add an oil stabilizer, like Sta-Bil to the gas. Be sure you drive the car after adding it, to allow the fuel mixture to circulate throughout the entire system. If you elect to start (and drive) your car during the storage period, make sure that you run the engine long enough to thoroughly warm it and to dry out the entire exhaust system. This takes longer that you might think, so give it time. While the engine is running, set the climate control so that the AC is caused to run for a few minutes; this will help to keep the seals lubed. If the car will be stored for an extended period without being run, you might consider "oiling the cylinders." This can be done by pulling the spark plugs and squirting an ounce of oil into each hole. Replace the plugs finger tight. Pull the fuse for the fuel injectors, to insure that the engine will not fire, and then turn the engine over a few times. You do not need to crank it for very long, just enough to distribute the oil. Make a note to repeat the short crank procedure, replace the fuse(s) and to torque the plugs, when the car is taken out of storage. I have done this and have started the engine in the spring without a problem. If you are worried about hydrolocking the engine, you can remove the plugs, place rags at the open plug holes, and then crank the engine a few times to remove some of the remaining oil. BATTERY If the car will be started periodically, leave the battery connected and attach a Battery Tender or similar, automatic battery charge maintainer. If you do not intend to start the car, I would recommend (probably not strictly necessary) removing the battery and placing it in a protected (warm, dry) environment. I would keep it attached to a Battery Tender through the storage period. ENGINE COMPARTMENT Dampen a soft rag with tire/rubber/plastic protectant and wipe down the entire compartment. Do not use water and do not spray the engine with a hose; you do not want to start the moisture/corrosion sequence. Spray all hinges with grease (wipe off excess) and put some grease on the rubber stops for the hood, found near the front hinges and at the sides near the latches. If the car is parked where it will be stored and you have a potential rodent problem, place a small can filled with moth balls somewhere in the compartment before you close the hood. Be sure you have re-installed and tightened all filler caps and the oil dip stick. TIRES Increase the tire pressure to about 45 lbs. It is not necessary to put the car on jack stands, but some prefer to do so. As mentioned earlier, apply tire protectant. I remove the wheels, clean and wax both sides of each wheel and then wipe protectant on both sides of the tires. Torque the lug nuts as usual manner. (star pattern, lbs ft.) When the car is at the storage position, place it so that each tire is resting on a square of carpet, heavy rubber, or dense styrofoam. This will help prevent flat spots from developing. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS Cover the car. Hopefully you have a car cover. If you don't, consider getting one that has a soft or flannel lining and is appropriate for your storage location. (inside or outside/exposed) If you are concerned about critters, place a ball of aluminum foil in each exhaust exit pipe. I know people who have had mice create quite a blockage in the exhaust system! Assuming the car is covered and mice are not a problem, you might want to leave the windows down and inch, to provide for air circulation. Check on the car once in awhile to be sure everything is OK and then get yourself a stack of Vette catalogs and start dreaming of next year! Page 11
