15 Why Vanpool? Vanpools have lower operating and capital costs than any other mass transit vehicles Vanpools can meet commuter needs that transit cannot Both employers and employees can have significant tax savings by participating Vanpools can reduce congestion and improve air quality

16 Vanpool Programs can be Sustainable UTA s Vanpool pricing covers everything: The van, we depreciate the van over 5 years or 125,000 miles Fuel, we use the FuelMan Card Maintenance, we have contracts with multiple vendors in our system area Insurance, we are self insured for property damage and use a third party for liability coverage

17 What are Commuter Benefits? Established in 1993 as part of the federal tax code section 132(f), commuter benefits were meant to provide a tax incentive to employees to encourage them to use mass transportation to reduce congestion and improve air quality. There are monthly maximum amounts that can be excluded from gross income to pay for transit or vanpool.

25 To be eligible for federal funds and for employees to receive the pre-tax benefits, you have to follow the rules: At a minimum, the vehicles must have a seating capacity of seven people The roster must be at least 50% of the number of seats The vehicles must meet Buy America standards 80% of the mileage must be for transporting employees to and from work

37 CarShare UTA partners with Enterprise CarShare for last mile options. Enterprise manages and operates a network of 32 hourly rental cars located strategically within UTA s service area. Partners include: University of Utah Utah Valley University Salt Lake City Corporation

38 Why Partner with Enterprise CarShare? CarShare is a program that allows members to rent vehicles around the clock by the hour or the day. CarShare provides first and last mile transportation for transit trips. As a result, more transit trips will be taken than previously. Because of the availability of a car as needed, primary and/or backup vehicles may not be needed.

39 By putting vehicles at train stations and other urban locations, it s an opportunity to supplement mass transit. It gives people the opportunity to get where they need to go.

43 Last Mile Vanpool / Transit Pass UTA is in the process of adding a new pass that will allow people to use unlimited transit plus Vanpool for the last mile at a set fare per month. Everybody takes the Bus, TRAX or FrontRunner Potentially coming from all different directions They meet at a rail station Hop in the van and go the last mile to work

45 What is GREENbike? GREENbikes are designed for one purpose, short trips in the city by people wearing regular clothes and carrying ordinary stuff. They don't take you up the canyon and they don't take you down the mountain. The bikes are one sizes fits all (4' 6" to 6' 4") and the only thing you might have to adjust is the seat.

A 24-hour Access Pass, 7-day or Annual Membership lets you take UNLIMITED 30 min trips at no extra charge! Every time you dock a bike, you get a fresh 30 min. If you keep one bike out longer than 30 min you get charged a usage fee.
