Introduction 1 About Us AV Access Limited is part of the AV Birch group of companies. A V Birch was formed in 1977 and started operations from their premises in Bridgnorth.

As the company expanded and our experience grew, we moved into the manufacture of all types of hydraulic presses up to 500 tonne capacity.

Due to the excellent relationship developed with many of our clients AV Birch Ltd began to solve a great many other issues for our clients, ranging from the development of a fleet of mobile

2 Introduction 1 About Us AV Access Limited is part of the AV Birch group of companies. A V Birch was formed in 1977 and started operations from their premises in Bridgnorth. At the beginning the company offered engineering services to the local industrial community. As the company expanded and our experience grew, we moved into the manufacture of all types of hydraulic presses up to 500 tonne capacity. We also have an unrivalled range of specialist presses for the general timber and timber truss industry. Due to the excellent relationship developed with many of our clients AV Birch Ltd began to solve a great many other issues for our clients, ranging from the development of a fleet of mobile service engineers with superb mechanical, electrical and hydraulic problem solving skills to the design and manufacturing of access platforms, staging and other solutions to enable our clients to work more effectively and safely. As the amount of access work grew over a period of time, it became clear that a dedicated and focused team should move this part of the company forward, this resulted in the creation of AV Access limited. Working within the purpose built factory AV Birch Ltd have over the years successfully worked in all the main industrial sections from Rail, Aviation, Automotive, Production Engineering, Transport and Facilities management. We at AV Access are one of the very few specialist access equipment suppliers who have an in-house design, manufacturing and installation capability. This together with our mobile service engineers and our own qualified training instructors means AV Access can confidently say that we can offer the complete solution to simple or complex problems. 10 Rail Access 9 Non Conductive AV Access are currently supplying GRP platforms to a number of industries including many rail depots. We manufacture our NCP range from GRP channels, box sections, angles and tube. This creates a much more robust structure as oppose to GRP scaffold tube. 14 Rail Jacks 13 Service & Breakdown of Rail Jacks We have experience with Mechan, Pfaff, Sefac, Matterson, Husky and many more. Service/Service Contracts We are currently servicing jacks throughout the uk and Ireland, we have mechanical / electrical engineers able to service jacks anywhere throughout the uk and Ireland at 3,6 and 12 month intervals. Breakdown Our engineers are able to attended site within a minimum of 4hrs depending on location. We are able to fault find electrical and mechanical breakdowns and order necessary parts whilst on site. AV ACCESS LTD

15 Rail Jacks 14 Re-furbishment of Rail Jacks Synchronise We can take your existing Jacks and design and install an up to date Sycronise Package to enable your Jacks to lift multiple car sets. We supply Anvils / Standard Reaction Brackets, all brackets are manufactured and tested at our factory in Bridgnorth. We also supply all accociated parts, eg. Nuts and Pins to suit. Refurbishment We have the facility to strip and refurb all types of jacks from 5 to 50 tonne, we can manufacture new parts if not readily available and load test on site here at A V Access. 21 HGV Access 20 HGV Modular Platforms A safe means of loading and unloading HGV s, whilst offering protection from falling and heights. A.V. Access have recognised like many other companies a need to protect their employees from falling from a vehicle whilst loading or unloading takes place. We have developed our existing modular platform system into a mobile, versatile and cost effective way of protecting employees when working at heights. This system assembles in less than 5 minutes. Our Modular System enables no more than two people to build a safe platform along any length of vehicle or part of a vehicle bed. You simply clip the platforms together and secure them with parking brakes. Each Platform is approximately 3 1 / 2 metres in length and the stairs can be clipped at either end of each platform, also with a moveable end guardrail, making this system the most versatile on the market. This system can be designed to suit any environment, from construction sites to you own specific requirements also these are lightweight, easy to manoeuvre yet strong and robust. Using a range of materials included the excellent Spandeck modular walkway system all areas of any building can be safely accessed. Gone are the days of large and very heavy steel sections to span 6, 7 or even 8 metres between support, using our excellent design capability we can use aluminium sections to reduce the self weight of our walkways by up to 60%. This enables the designers of the building steelwork to use lighter sections, it also means that the installation runs much smoother without the need for large amounts of mechanical lifting and cranes. 26 Regulations 25 Access Equipment, Asset Management & Inspections As specified under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 we should all look to remove the need to work at height, unfortunately this is all to often not a practical option and we and our staff must undertake some degree of work at height. It is essential therefore that the most appropriate piece of work equipment be selected for the task to be undertaken. Under both The Work at Height Regulations 2005 and The Provision and Use Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 and even in the cases of powered access equipment (Cherry pickers and scissor lifts) The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998, every employer has to ensure that all work equipment used under his control is inspected at suitable intervals by a competent person. PUWER Regulation 6 (2) Every employer shall ensure that work equipment exposed to conditions causing deterioration which is liable to result in dangerous situations is inspected - (a) at suitable intervals; and (b) each time that exceptional circumstances which are liable to jeopardise the safety of the work equipment have occurred, to ensure that health and safety conditions are maintained and that any deterioration can be detected and remedied in good time. (3) Every employer shall ensure that the result of an inspection made under this regulation is recorded and kept until the next inspection under this regulation is recorded. (4) Every employer shall ensure that no work equipment - (a) leaves his undertaking; or (b) if obtained from the undertaking of another person, is used in his undertaking, unless it is accompanied by physical evidence that the last inspection required to be carried out under this regulation has been carried out According to the HSE s interpretation of these regulations the need for a formal employers inspections is necessary when this deterioration may not be identified through normal operators checks. Assest identification AV Access Ltd will locate all items of access equipment on your site and give each one a unique serial number and an inspection tag to identify the date of the next inspection. 2. Assest Register AV Access will produce an electronic asset register for our clients that enables them to keep up to date with the equipment they have available together with it s normal location. 3. Inspection AV Access Ltd will undertake a detailed inspection of every component of each piece of access equipment at intervals suitable for the clients industry and the type of use of the equipment. 4. Report Following every visit a detailed report will be supplied showing all items inspected and giving the customer an updated assest register including any new items. 5. Surveillance The use of our serial numbers and regular inspections all our customers to identify trends in the use and damage of access equipment. This allows employers to better demonstrate their commitment to fulfilling their duty of care to the employees. 6. Remedial As experts in the design and manufacture of all types of access equipment we will be able to undertake any form of remedial work identified during the inspections. We have highly experienced staff who can effect most repairs at the clients site at short notice, this drastically reduces both the costs involved and the down time for the equipment.
