2 Our training modules are made up of 14 individual 3.5-hour courses which can be delivered with each other to make up a complete 7-hour session enabling training programmes to be tailored to the specific needs of the operator or individual driver: Delivering Safety This module is designed to make drivers aware of their responsibilities towards Health and Safety and to provide guidance on conducting certain tasks safely while eliminating hazards and risks in the workplace. Course Content: Health & Safety at Work, Operating Safely, Manual Handling, PPE, Working at Height, Slips, Trips & Falls Delivering the Goods Covering various issues that drivers can face during the course of carrying out their deliveries, this module helps them to overcome and deal with situations safely and appropriately Course Content: Points of Call (including High Streets, Ferries, Ports, Terminals, Rural Driving, Urban Driving, Care Homes, Schools and Hospitals), Route Planning, Customer Service Driver Welfare This module provides drivers with information about the medical requirements of their driving licence to help them protect their livelihoods and keep them safe on the road Course Content: Driver Health, Alcohol & Drugs, Fatigue, Driver Fitness Driving Forward Fuel efficiency, road safety and legal compliance are significant issues affecting both vehicle operators and professional drivers. This module covers the requirements and actions that can help to ensure all three are at the highest level Course Content: Driving for Fuel Efficiency, Defect Reporting, Driving Safely, Highway Code & Personal Safety Fire Awareness Fires in vehicles and workplaces can be devastating to safety as well as financially. Covered here are measures to help prevent, report and deal with such situations as they occur Course Content: Causes of Fire and Dangers, Fire Dos and Don ts, Fire Extinguishers & Use, Fire Prevention
3 3.5-hour modules continued: First Aid Awareness of the basics of first aid principles can be potentially life saving. This module gives candidates information about responding to common injuries and occurrences Course Content: Aims, Priorities of Treatment, Resuscitation, Choking, Unconscious Casualties, Bleeding & Shock, Burns & Scalds Food Safety This module deals with the correct use of vehicles and refrigeration systems as well as the legal requirements that must be followed to prevent compromising the product being carried Course Content: Dangers of Food Contamination, Food Safety Management, International Carriage of Foodstuffs, The Drivers Role, Different Food Types, Lorry Fridge Systems, The Cool Chain Know Your Vehicle This module is designed to keep drivers aware of the legal requirements of documentation and equipment for themselves and their vehicle Course Content: Staying Legal, Fuels & Lubricants, Legal Requirements & Maintenance, Safety Equipment & Types of Vehicle, Gearboxes & Brakes 3.5-hour module (LGV or PCV) Maximum 20 candidates Loading & Unloading Load security issues can be a huge compromise to road safety as well as legal compliance on behalf of both driver and operator. Covered here are the correct ways in which different loads, vehicles and securing systems must be dealt with to ensure safe and legal loading Course Content: Weights & Load Distribution, Effects of Load Movement, Vehicle Dimensions & Weights, Load Security, Loading Equipment Manual Handling Manual handling injuries can be hugely costly to both drivers and operators so this course is aimed at ensuring drivers are familiar with the correct techniques to avoid injury and other issues whilst carrying out lifting tasks Course Content: Costs of Injury/Back Pain, Causes of Back Pain, Practical Lifting Techniques, Use of Lifting Aids, Awkward Loads, Tandem Lifting
4 3.5-hour modules continued: Passenger Care Drivers of passenger vehicles face a range of issues that affect the comfort and security of their passenger as well as themselves. This module is aimed at dealing with these frequently encountered scenarios Course Content: Passenger Charter, Passenger Care, Documentation, Manual Handling & Luggage, First on the Scene 3.5-hour module (PCV Only) Maximum 20 candidates Road Traffic Accidents Professional drivers can frequently be amongst the first at the scene when accidents have occurred on the road and knowing what to do and how to react could mean those involved are safer Course Content: Arrive on Scene, Next Actions, Casualty Care & Dangers Rules & Regulations All LGV and PCV drivers have a requirement to understand and apply the relevant drivers hours rules and use recording equipment correctly. This module helps keep drivers of all levels of experience up to date and legally compliant Course Content: Drivers Hours Rules, Tachographs, Working Time Directive, Operational Guidance Safety & Security Essentials for Drivers Designed to assist drivers in keeping themselves safe as well as their vehicle, load and other road uses by covering a variety of subjects and situations that can be encountered on the road Course Content: Rules of the Road, Driver Fatigue & Fitness to Drive, Driving in Severe Weather, Traffic Accident Procedure, Security & Crime Prevention
5 Alongside our 3.5-hour modules we have a number of Jaupt approved 7-hour training courses covering specific subjects or to allow Driver CPC hours to be obtained with other training qualifications: Emergency First Aid at Work Candidates who attend this course will be qualified as a first aider enabling them to carry out these duties in the workplace as well in other environments Course Content: Aims, Dealing with Emergencies, Priorities of Treatment, CPR, Practical CPR Exercises, Choking, Unconscious Casualties, Bleeding & Shock, Wounds & Broken Bones, Practical Assessments, Emergency Incidents, CPR Instructor Feedback 7-hour module (LGV & PCV) Maximum 12 candidates Vulnerable Road Users FORS Approved Aimed at ensuring drivers are aware of the dangers presented to other road users and their responsibilities, whilst also assisting operators in maintaining their FORS membership Course Content: Where Do We Encounter VRU s? Who Are The VRU s? Sharing Road Space, Route Planning, New Traffic Systems, Professional Drivers Role, Hazard Perception, Defensive Driving, Blindspots, Vehicle Safety Systems, Cyclists, Pedestrians, Motorcyclists, Horse Riders 7-hour module (LGV & PCV) Maximum 20 candidates Operator Licence Awareness Designed for all staff in both LGV and PSV operations to be able to add to or update their existing knowledge, enabling them to remain legally compliant and satisfy the requirements of the Traffic Commissioner Course Content: Drivers Hours, Fleet Inspections & OCRS, Operator Licensing, Driver CPC, Driver Licensing, Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness, Walk Around Checks, Enforcement 7-hour module (LGV or PCV) Maximum 20 candidates Management CPC (Road Haulage or Passenger Transport) All operators that have a Standard Operators Licence must have a Transport Manager that holds a Management CPC for either Road Haulage or Passenger Transport as required. These courses enable candidates to pass the OCR set exams and gain their CPC Course Content: Please call for more information Up to 35 hours Driver CPC 5 x 7-hour modules (LGV or PCV) Maximum 20 candidates Dangerous Goods Awareness This course gives all staff involved the loading, handling and transportation of dangerous goods the required knowledge and skills to carry out their duties safely and legally Course Content: Regulations, Hazard Classes, Documentation, Vehicle Markings & Labels, Safe Loading & Handling, Security, Equipment, Emergency Actions 7-hour module (LGV only) Maximum 20 candidates
6 7-hour modules continued: ADR Carriage of Dangerous Goods Under the European Agreement on ADR, drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous goods in packages must hold a special vocational certificate of training, referred to informally as an ADR Certificate. This training course is designed to enable drivers to pass the required SQA set exams to gain the qualification Course Content: Core, Practical Emergency Exercises, Packages, Classes 2, 3,4 5, 6, 8 & 9 Up to 21 Hours Driver CPC 3 x 7-hour modules (LGV Only) Maximum 20 candidates ADR Tanker Module Designed as an add-on to the above basic ADR training course, the tanker training module and the required exams must be taken by drivers of vehicles that carry dangerous goods in tankers Course Content: Tankers 7-hour module (LGV Only) Maximum 20 candidates Counterbalance Forklift Truck Refresher A refresher course is for someone who can operate a counterbalance forklift and has previously received formal training and issued with a Certificate of Basic Skills Training Course Content: Operator Safety Code, Pre-use checks, Operator Assessment, Weight Distribution, Manoeuvring 7-hour module (LGV Only) Maximum 3 candidates Counterbalance Forklift Truck Experienced Operator (2-day course) An experienced operator course is for someone who can operate a counterbalance forklift but has never received any formal training or previously issued with a certificate of training Course Content: Operator Safety Code, Pre-use checks, Operator Assessment, Weight Distribution, Remedial Training, Vehicle Controls, Manoeuvring 14-hour module (LGV Only) Maximum 2 candidates Vehicle Mounted Forklift Truck Refresher A refresher course is for someone who can operate a counterbalance forklift and has previously received formal training and issued with a Certificate of Basic Skills Training Course Content: Operator Safety Code, Pre-use checks, Operator Assessment, Weight Distribution, Manoeuvring 7-hour module (LGV Only) Maximum 3 candidates
7 7-hour modules continued: Lorry Loader Novice (2-day course) This course is for someone who has never received any formal training and has no experience of using a lorry loader and enables them to receive a recognised certificate qualifying them for the use of the appropriate equipment Course Content: Legislation, Maintenance, Pre-Use Checks, Siting the Loader, Use of Controls, Preparing Loader, Using the Loader, Shutting Down and Stowing the Loader 14-hour module (LGV Only) Maximum 4 candidates Lorry Loader Experienced Operator The experienced operator course is for someone who can operate a lorry loader and has previously received formal training and been issued with a certificate of training Course Content: Legislation, Maintenance, Pre-Use Checks, Siting the Loader, Use of Controls, Preparing Loader, Using the Loader, Shutting Down and Stowing the Loader 7-hour module (LGV Only) Maximum 4 candidates Slingers and Signallers The Slinger and Signaller course enables cardholders to use their skills when performing Slinger/Signaller duties with any type of lifting equipment, not just lorry loaders Course Content: Definition of Terms, Lifting Accessories and Operations, Roles, Types of Sling, Responsibilities, Risk Assessments, Working at Height, Planning, PPE, Pre and Post Checks 7-hour module (LGV Only) Maximum 4 candidates Driver Induction Day Classroom Based An induction course suitable to all goods vehicle drivers, making them aware of all the requirements of safe and legally compliant driving in all types of operation Course Content: Customer Service, Drivers Pre-Use Checks, Accident Procedure, Drivers Hours, Safe Loading, Drivers Safety, Safety & Security Essentials, Vulnerable Road Users 7-hour module (LGV Only) Maximum 20 candidates Security Awareness Security training for drivers who are involved in the handling of cargo for air transport to meet the legal requirements to Level D Course Content: Threats, Law, Principles, Cargo Classification, Responding to the Suspicious, Reacting to Threats, Drivers of Vehicles, Access Control 7-hour module (LGV Only) Maximum 20 candidates
