1 Geesinknorba Spain supply waste collection vehicles along Spain`s Mediterranean Coast BY TIMOTHY BYRNE Geesinknorba Spain has supplied a variety of waste collection vehicles to both public and private companies along Spain s Mediterranean Coast in recent months. The Geesinknorba MF300 series split fraction vehicles being one example. These are suitable for dual stream waste collection, for example, residual, pre segregated or commingled recyclables. The split fraction is available in cubic capacities of cubic metres and suits all European chassis of two, three and four axle configurations. The body and tailgate are available in a wide variety of split fractions which are ideal for collecting different waste streams. The equipment can be supplied in open back form, or fitted with the Geesinknorba L200 manual lift or the Geesinknorba L500 manual / automatic bin lift which can lift containers from litres (DIN Standard). In operation using the Smartpack system improves fuel efficiency by 20% as well as helping noise and emissions reductions. Customers purchasing the MF300 series split fraction waste collectors can also specify the fitment of the Geesinknorba MF50 pod, available in 2.7m 3-6m 3 capacities. The pod is watertight for collecting food waste or other abrasive materials, for example, glass. It comes fitted with a bin lift which can handle

2 containers from litre capacities. It increases the number of waste materials that can be collected on one collection vehicle reducing labour costs and emissions. Geesinknorba Spain has also supplied many AMS CL1 - N side loaders, available in capacities from cubic metres. The equipment is suitable for mounting onto all European chassis of two, three and four axle configurations. Their lifting equipment is capable of lifting containers from litres capacity (DIN Standard). This product is strong and durable and can collect a wide variety of waste streams, such as, residual waste, paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, steel and aluminium and food waste. The compaction pressure can be varied for either food waste, reducing the excess production of leachates, and glass maintaining its quality for recycling. The AMS CL1 N side loader range only requires a driver thus reducing labour costs. The electronics are CANBUS controlled so any minor operational problems can be identified easily and the in cab control panel also links to a GIS system so the collection route driven can be reproduced for another driver covering holidays, sickness / absence etc.

3 Case Study: Private Contractor Juan y Juan The districts of Vacarisse, Viladecavalls, Esparraguera, Matadepera, Sallent Barcelona Geesinknorba Spain has had a very good relationship with private contractor Juan y Juan for the last two decades. Over this period, it has supplied a wide variety of waste collection vehicles to them from the Geesinknorba GPM II, GPM III and MF 300 Series. To date, their whole fleet is 100% Geesinknorba and totals a fleet size of waste collectors. Previously, Juan y Juan has used the MF300 series of 16.4 cubic metres capacity in the municipality of Viladecavalls. A split fraction of 11 cubic metres and 5.4 cubic metres was chosen to collect the required waste / recyclable streams. These waste collection vehicles were fitted with the Geesinknorba L200 bin lift which could handle containers from litres (DIN type). Juan y Juan purchased two of these units mounted on two axle Volvo FM chassis with day cab for a driver and two operatives. The chassis was fitted with the Volvo Powertronic automatic transmission to reduce driver fatigue. In the municipality of Esparraguera, Juan y Juan purchased two MF300 units of 15.4 cubic metres capacity giving a split fraction of 10.1 cubic metres and 5.3 cubic metres. These were also mounted onto Volvo FM two axle chassis of similar specification to the units supplied to Viladecavalls. In both Viladecavalls and Esparraguera, the MF300 S are used to collect residual waste and recyclables. The MF300 units for Esparraguera also feature the Geesinknorba L200 bin lift similar to the units supplied to Viladecavalls. More recently, Juan y Juan became the first operator in Spain to purchase several of the Geesinknorba MF300 Series combined with the Geesinknorba MF50 pod for use in the municipality of Matadepera. The MF300 Series waste collector has 13 cubic metres capacity with a split fraction of 8.4 cubic metres and 4.3 cubic metres. The new waste collection vehicles are fitted with the Geesinknorba L200 bin lift capable of emptying containers from litres capacity (DIN type). They are also fitted with the MF50 pod of 3 cubic metres capacity and a side mounted bin lift capable of

4 handling containers from litres capacity and have been mounted onto Renault Premium three axle chassis (6x2 rear steer configuration). This features a 310 horsepower engine and the Renault day cab with room for a driver and two operatives with the Allison 3200 series automatic transmission to reduce driver fatigue. These vehicles will be used to collect a wide variety of wastes, for example, residual fraction, and segregated recyclables including paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminium and steel cans. The MF50 pod will be used to collect recyclable glass. 5 Case Study: Public Company Calvia 2000 island of Mallorca Calvia 2000 is a public company on the island of Mallorca. It is home to the tourist towns of Santa Ponsa, Palma Nova, Magaluf, Illetas, Costa d en Blanes, Costa de la Calma, Peguera and Cala Fornells to name but a few. Providing waste collection services in these large tourist resorts is a very big task. In the summer months, the volume of residual waste doubles and so too does the volume of recyclables generated from shops, bars, tavernas as well as the resorts hotels. Recently, Calvia 2000 purchased a new AMS CL1 N side loader of 25 cubic metres capacity to deliver its waste collection services in these tourist resorts. The AMS CL1 N equipment will be emptying containers of 3200 litres capacity containing residual waste as well as segregated recyclables, such as, plastics / cartons. The new AMS CL1 N side loader has been mounted onto an Iveco Stralis three axle chassis of 6x2 rear steer configuration. The chassis features a 330 horse power engine and drives through an Allison 3200 series automatic transmission. This helps to reduce driver fatigue in the stop start operation of waste collection. Calvia 2000 will use the AMS CL1 N side loader to collect waste and dry recyclables (plastic / cartons) in the tourist resorts both morning and evening to help keep waste and recyclables to a minimum and to maintain excellent environmental protection for both tourists and residents living in the region of Calvia.

6 Case Study: Private Contractor Urbaser SA in the District of Tierra del Vino Valencia Urbaser SA recently purchased their first two AMS CL1 N side loaders of 25 cubic metres capacity from Geesinknorba Spain to service the District of Tierra del Vino in Valencia. The region is famous for its wine production as well as being a popular tourist destination because of it close proximity to the Valencian coastline, with several towns including Requena Utiel. Urbaser SA purchased their two AMS CL1 N side loaders mounted on Mercedes Axor 2533L three axle chassis of 6x2 rear steer configuration. Their decision was based on a rigorous testing exercise in the field and within other waste collection contracts which Urbaser provides to Spanish municipalities. From these tests, Urbaser identified that the AMS was not only the most durable side loader product currently available on the Spanish waste collection market but it returned increased whole life costs over the service life of the equipment. The vehicles feature a 330 horse power engine with the first Mercedes Axor chassis sold in Spain featuring the Allison 3200R automatic transmission complete with retarder. The advantage of this is that it acts as a cover when the driver uses the vehicle braking system. This reduces service wear to the vehicle s braking system increasing brake life thus provides an efficient waste collection service all year round. The Mercedes Axor AMS side loaders are also fitted with a weighing system and GIS tracking system by specialists Distromel Ingenieria De Sistemas. This will help the management of Urbaser to achieve the best legal payloads the AMS units can collect as well as keeping the vehicle within its legal weight limit of 26,000kgs. The management of Urbaser will also be able to locate the collection vehicle quickly and reproduce a GIS map of its collection route through the vehicles GIS and tracking system fitted by Distromel. The AMS side loaders will collect residual and recyclable materials source segregated from containers of 3200 litres capacity from the communities of Tierra del Vino in Valencia.

7 Case Study: Public Company Fobesa Castellon Fobesa is the public company in Castellon which is responsible for waste collection, street and beach cleaning services in this busy resort. In addition to providing waste collection and street and beach cleaning services in Castellon, Fobesa also provide waste collection and street cleaning services to an additional fifty towns in the province of Castellon as well as in the towns and cities of Teruel, Alicante and Albacete. To provide high quality environmental services, Fobesa have invested in the most modern and efficient waste collection vehicles. Over the last decade, Fobesa has purchased many Geesink GPM II and GPM III 15H25, 16L25, 17H25 and 22H25 waste collection vehicles complete with the GCB1000 bin lifting equipment capable of handling litre capacity (DIN type containers) from Geesinknorba Spain. These equipments have been mounted to Scania P94, Renault Premium and Iveco Eurocargo two axle chassis as well as Iveco Eurotech three axle chassis of 6x2 rear steer configuration. All of the chassis purchased feature a day cab for a driver and two crew personnel as well as being fitted with the Allison 3000, 3200 and 4000 series automatic transmission to help reduce driver fatigue. Over the last few years, the relationship between Fobesa and Geesinknorba Spain has developed further and Fobesa has been purchasing the AMS CL1- N side loader from the company. The AMS CL1 N side loaders purchased by Fobesa are of 25 cubic metres capacity, mounted onto an Iveco Stralis three axle chassis of 6x2 rear steer configuration. The chassis feature a 310 horse power engine and Allison 3200 series automatic transmission. These will collect residual waste and dry recyclables from containers of 3200 litres capacity in Castellon and the other communities and municipalities where Fobesa provides waste collection services.
