Let the device run briefly until the speed has stabilized. 4. Measure the speed (follow the operating manual of the measuring device). 5. Note the measuring result. If required, repeat steps 3 to 5 for other speeds Timer check Measuring device Stopwatch Accuracy: 0.1 s Measurement procedure: 1. Load the device with a filled microplate. 2. Set the run time to continuous operation. 3. Start the device and the stopwatch simultaneously. 4. Let the device run for 5 minutes. Compare the time displayed on the device and the time measured with the stopwatch Check of overload protection ("Too Fast" warning) Test plate Eppendorf Microplate 96/U-PP (order number ), filled with 350 μl water per well, sealed with Eppendorf PCR film (order number ). The total weight of the test plate is approx. 70 g. The MixMate must run with this load. The overload protection (Too Fast warning) must not be triggered. Procedure: 1. Insert the test plate into the plate holder. 2. Set to 3000 rpm. Start the device and let it run for a minimum of 30 seconds. Use a completely filled deepwell plate (minimum: 96/1000 μl) or a tube holder fully equipped with filled tubes (1.5/2 ml) to check if the overload protection is triggered by an overload. The overload protection will only be activated at speeds over 2000 rpm. The overload protection responds to weight, height and the secure positioning of the load. It can also be triggered at a lower total weight (< 70 g) if the load is too high (e.g. tube holders or Deepwell plates) or if the load has not been inserted correctly. Due to tolerances, a load slightly higher than 70 g might run. The MixMate is designed for operation with load. When operated without a load, the overload protection may also be triggered in individual cases.

34 34 Maintenance 9.5 Electrical safety check Effective standard Pre-IEC (international) VDE 701/702 (Germany) NFPA 99 (USA) Notes concerning the measuring procedure: Testing electrical safety may only be carried out by a suitably trained electrician. Measurement is carried out on a grounded, metallic point on the lower part of the housing/chassis that is not insulated and can be touched from the outside. Never use any interfaces that may be present for measuring. This could damage the electronic system of the device. Due to the internal electrical design the insulation resistance cannot be measured! Due to the internal electrical design the equivalent leakage current cannot be measured! > Always measure the real leakage current (direct measurement or differential current measurement).
