9 Product description 9 3 Product description 3.1 Overview and features The New Brunswick Voltage Stabilizer is designed to extend the input supply voltage rating from the normal ±10 % to -25 % / +20 %. The device continuously monitors and corrects high and low voltage fluctuations in the incoming electrical supply, to provide a stable line voltage for the operation of your equipment. If the voltage rises or falls, the Voltage Stabilizer adjusts the incoming line voltage to ensure that the voltage reaching your equipment remains within ± 10% of the nominal line voltage rating (see General model information on p. 21) Product versions Voltage stabilizer standalone Part number Description M V, 60 Hz M V, 50/60 Hz Display To ensure accurate indication of the incoming line voltage at all times, the Voltage Stabilizer has 3 LED indicators. LED Color Red Green Yellow Voltage High line voltage Normal line voltage Low line voltage Safety The Voltage Stabilizer provides 2 safety features: The main power switch is located behind a lockable power switch cover to prevent unauthorized users from accidentally turning off the device. A convenient, removable power cord is fixed in place by a locking clamp to prevent the power cord from accidentally becoming unplugged. The unit contains high voltage components. The cover should only be removed by a qualified engineer or service personnel.

The Voltage Stabilizer unit must be grounded whenever it is in use. Do not operate the unit until you have first checked that the maximum load of your equipment does not exceed the rated capacity of the Voltage Stabilizer. Consult the label on the rear of the unit. If you are unsure of the maximum load of your equipment, consult a licensed electrician Grounding This unit must be grounded. If your electrical supply is not grounded, consult a qualified electrician to provide a ground Locations Although the Voltage Stabilizer does not produce excessive heat, make sure it is positioned so that air flows freely around it to allow the unit to cool. Provide a minimum clearance of 6 inches on all sides of the unit. Never install the Voltage Stabilizer inside a closed cabinet. Do not allow papers or other materials to be placed on top of or underneath the unit. Be sure to keep the ventilation slots clear of any material that might lodge in them or block airflow.
14 14 Installation Making connections CAUTION! Do not plug this unit into an extension cord or any kind of fused power strip. Install the supplied power cord by using the following procedure: 1. Insert the C-19 connector (square end) into the power receptacle at the back of the Voltage Stabilizer (see Tab. on p. 11). 2. Tighten the power cord safety retainer by tightening the screw on top of the retaining clip (a Phillips screwdriver will be required). 3. Plug the NEMA 5-20/6-15 end of the power cord into an appropriately rated electrical outlet (check rating label). When connecting to a power outlet other than a NEMA socket, use the supplied power cord to connect the Voltage Stabilizer to the freezer or other equipment to be protected. Then use the power cord already connecting the equipment to the power supply to now supply the Voltage Stabilizer.
15 Operation 15 5 Operation 5.1 Connecting to equipment WARNING! Risk of electric shock! To avoid the risk of shocks, do not expose this equipment to liquids or high moisture areas. Never insert any object into the ventilation slots. Never dismantle the Voltage Stabilizer. CAUTION! Before attempting to use the New Brunswick Voltage Stabilizer, ensure that the total amperage load of your equipment does not exceed the maximum rating of the Voltage Stabilizer. To check the rating, refer to the label on the back of the unit. To connect your equipment to the Voltage Stabilizer: 1. Turn your equipment OFF and unplug it from the electrical supply outlet. 2. Using the keys provided to unlock the panel, open and remove the Voltage Stabilizer lockable power switch cover. 3. Make sure the Voltage Stabilizer power switch is OFF. 4. Plug your equipment into the appropriately rated socket on the back of the Voltage Stabilizer (see Making connections on p. 14). 5. Turn on the main power switch of the Voltage Stabilizer. 6. Replace the lockable power switch cover and lock with the key provided to ensure that unauthorized users cannot inadvertently turn off the unit. 7. Turn on the equipment attached to the Voltage Stabilizer. 5.2 Operating sequence The Voltage Stabilizer will relay power to your equipment at an appropriate line voltage, and the LEDs on the front panel (see Fig. 3-1 on p. 10) will give you a visual indication of the state of the input line voltage.
16 16 Operation LED message Meaning LED display Red LED marked "High" is illuminated. Green LED marked "Normal" is illuminated. Yellow LED marked "Low" is illuminated. The incoming line voltage has increased. The Voltage Stabilizer will automatically reduce the incoming line voltage to an appropriate level. The incoming power supply voltage is normal. Any variation to the supply voltage, up or down, will be monitored and adjusted by the Voltage Stabilizer. The incoming line voltage has dropped. The Voltage Stabilizer will automatically boost the incoming line voltage to an appropriate level. Abb. 5-1: Front panel LEDs Fig. 5-1: The Voltage Stabilizer should only be used to correct voltage fluctuations within the stated maximum working range.
