3 SAFETY WARNINGS This symbol is found on all of the SOPs included in this manual, as well as the product packaging for Mirka abrasives. Specific requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE) are presented in many different OSHA standards, published in 29 CFR. Wear appropriate eye and face protection and ensure that the selected form of protection is appropriate to the work being performed and properly fits each worker exposed to the hazard. Use gloves specifically designed for the hazards and tasks found in the workplace. The nature of the hazard and the operation involved will affect the selection of gloves. If engineering and work practice controls do not lower employee exposure to workplace noise to acceptable levels, employees must wear appropriate hearing protection. Selecting the right respirator requires an assessment of all the workplace operations, processes or environments that may create a respiratory hazard. Read and follow all instructions contained in Technical Data Sheets and User Manuals. The User is responsible for determining whether the Mirka product is fit for a particular purpose and suitable for the User s application. The Smart Cart provides a movable platform for the MV-912 dust extractor with integrated storage hooks for vacuum hoses. The system incorporates a locking cabinet for inventory control and a large, 17-3/4 x 27 work surface that is recessed 2 to hold items in place. 6 SOP - Large Area Body Repair Repair of major dents, large scratches through painted surfaces to bare metal Prepare damaged area for paint. Areas are larger than 3 in diameter 1. PREP 2. FILL Autonet P80 AE MRP-680CV Sander 916GV48 Backup Pad (Body Filler) Sand an area approximately 2-3 beyond the damaged area using Autonet P80 grit abrasive discs and the Mirka PROS sander to expose bare metal. Featheredge the paint inward toward the repair area. Use an MV-912 dust extractor or other dust collection system when sanding. Apply filler in thin layers and spread smoothly over the entire repair area. Do not apply material all at once as this can cause pinholes. Avoid creating coarse scratches outside the filled area during the initial cut. After initial shaping, apply Guide Coat to highlight the repair area. Block the repair to reveal any low areas. Additional filler may be required if excessive low spots remain. Re-apply Guide Coat. This material should be sealed for proper topcoat adhesion and chip resistance. Light sanding/scuffing of the parts is required prior to sealing. Avoid sanding through the e-coat to bare metal. 14 SOP - Panel Blending Refinement of all sanded area transitions Prepare entire surface that will receive basecoat and clearcoat In most cases, application of clearcoat to the entire panel is the only procedure approved for a Warranted Repair. 1. SAND As blending the clearcoat within the panel requires the thickness of the clearcoat to be reduced at the edge, it may become visible if polished too aggressively, or after extended exposure to weather. Follow paint manufacturer s recommendations for specific instructions for panel blending Abranet Ace P800 or P1000 AC , AC MRP-650CV Sander 916GV48 Backup Pad 1066F Interface Pad Sand panel using Abranet Ace P800 grit or finer abrasive using moderate speed. 16 SOP - Clearcoat Large Area Finishing Remove dirt nibs, runs or sags in clear coats Match original paint surface texture 1. SAND 2. FINESSE Microstar P1500 FM MRP-650CV Sander 916SGV Backup Pad 1066F Interface Pad Sand with 1500 grit (dry) using moderate speed. The clear should powder when sanding. If you can not produce dust, then it is not dry enough to sand. Sanding too early risks producing pills which will damage the surface. Microstar was designed to remove runs, dust nibs, excess orange peel or other surface defects in painted surfaces or gelcoat prior to polishing. Abralon A MRP-650CV Sander 916SGV Backup Pad Refine sand scratches using 3000 grit Abralon with a 50% overlap pattern (wet). Spray the pad and surface with clean water. If too much is used, it will be evident by water slinging from the pad, and the abrasive will float over the surface with reduced cutting action.
