The installer s attention is drawn to the following: All the sections of this manual must be read before working on the equipment. Pre-installation considerations - PLEASE READ THIS FIRST This section of the manual is intended as an advisory guide and as such does not cater for every situation that may be experienced during installation. Please refer to the local water supplier for any aspects of compliance before installation eg: colour and type of interconnecting pipework to use between the property and the tank. Installers must ensure there is no cross contamination with the mains supply and adequate markings are provided to identify pipework as non-potable water. The installer/end user is required to ensure that all necessary permissions have been sought and granted and that the installation procedures will be carried out observing the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, and will involve good building and sound civil engineering practice. Therefore, please ensure that due consideration has been given to the following points, and appropriate action taken where required: Planning, Building Regulations, Building Control or other regulatory or interested parties have been consulted regarding installation and siting of the tank(s). Siting of systems shared between more than 1 property. Whereabouts of services, pipes, cables, ducts, etc. Local ground conditions ie: unusual soil conditions, underground rivers, running sand, chemicals in the 2 soil. Suitably trained and qualified personnel must carry out the installation. Normal safety precautions must be taken and appropriate procedures observed to avoid accidents. Refer to WPL Ltd for any further technical advice or product information. Direct Feed Systems - Motorised mains top up valve operates at mains pressure of 1 Bar maximum. For sites which have mains pressure exceeding 1 Bar, pressure to be reduced locally to the mains top up valve. PRV Supplied. Water table (note - specialist knowledge is required when installing tank(s) in an excavation site that allows water to enter.) Special consideration should be given to installations that will be subject to high water table pressure or flood conditions. The rainwater harvesting system will need to be installed so that it cannot float out of the ground. The tank must not be installed in an area used by cars or other vehicles, the tank can be walked over, but not driven over. The float is a switched, live circuit. Only a qualified electrician should undertake the electrical part of the installation ensuring the electrical equipment is securely isolated during the installation. Temporary barriers and warnings signs should be displayed clearly around excavations, open covers or manholes and in particular warning of deep water in tanks. Any visiting personnel must report to the site office or householder on arrival and fully acquaint themselves with the safety regulations applicable.

Please carefully read through all the assembly and installation instructions which follow before you start, so that you know exactly how to install the rainwater harvesting tank(s), pump and filter properly. Please check each tank shell section for damage during transportation, such as dents or hairline cracks and check you have all the components of the system as specified on below. If you are unsure of any of the advice given, the parts supplied or the assembly and installation instructions, please contact WPL Ltd prior to proceeding. 4 Pre-installation preparation - MUST BE DONE FIRST Before the tanks are assembled and installed in the trench they must be prepared for the interconnecting pipework. Note - In order to ascertain where the holes should be drilled in the tank(s), you must decide where the interconnecting pipework between the house, filter and tank(s) will be installed. 1. Start by putting the two halves of the tank together (without the gasket and clips) and identify the number of pipes and hoses you will need: pipes for the intake, top-up and floatswitch connection between the filter and tank intake inlet/overflow (at top or side) DN100 connecting pipes DN100 (for filling at the bottom and venting at the top) for systems with 2(no) tanks (3200ltr systems) top connections in the top and bottom connections in side wall tank access riser DN200 Groundworks - digging the correct size trench 2. Mark the drilling points, then separate the shell sections, drill the holes (note the inside/outside labelling on drilling guides on the tank) using holesaw bits (available from most merchants and DIY stores standard 114mm) and remove any debris from inside the tank. Note - For 3200 litre system which has two tanks, carefully mark the drilling points on each tank, as they will not be identical. We recommend that you drill the holes outside the trench and then place the tank in the trench when you are ready. The trench for a single tank (1600 litre system) should be large enough to leave sufficient clearance around the tank to sink or bed it in. If you are using two tanks in series (3200 litre system) you also need space to be able to connect the tanks together. Allow at least 150mm (approx.) around a single tank, and for two tanks also allow for 500mm (approx.) between the two tanks. You will also need to allow excavation for the external filter and connecting pipework. A gradient of 1.5%-2% between the filter and tank, and between the tank and drain/soakaway is required. Approximate Trench Sizes for tanks (excludes excavation for filter and laying pipework) 1600 litre (single tank) App. size 1.65m x 1.65m x depth 3200 litre (two tanks) App. size 3.5m x 1.65m x depth Approximate Total Depth 2.3m-2.5m mm approx. earth above tank 1560mm tank height 150mm layer of gravel beneath the tank (9/15 size) Gravel base Ensure the base of the trench is flat (horizontal) and uniformly compacted to prevent the tank tilting when full. Apply a layer of gravel, approximately 150mm thick and ensure there are no sharp stones that could damage the tank. Note - Before digging the trench please ensure the siting of the tank(s) is correct in relation to the points on page 2. The trench must be free of groundwater or rainwater etc. otherwise the tank cannot be installed properly. Groundwater drainage pipe can be laid around the tank (not supplied by WPL Ltd). The tank(s) can only be sited in a pedestrian area (cannot be in an area used by vehicles). MAXIMUM DEPTH OF TRENCH 2.5m mm earth above tank 1560mm tank height 150mm layer of gravel beneath tank 4

Ground water and cohesive soils (impervious to water) Installing the tanks in areas with ground water is acceptable if a sufficiently stable geotextile (to be provided by the customer, tensile force at least 50kN/ m² in longitudinal and cross direction size 2.5 x 2.5m) is installed and anchored above the tank as a safety measure against uplifting. Height of vertical cover in case of ground water and cohesion-less soils (permeable to water) (installation with safety measure against uplifting): If there is the risk of exceeding the maximum acceptable level of ground water, a sufficiently dimensioned drainage line has to be routed in any case. In case of cohesive soils (impervious to water), e.g. silt, a minimum height of the vertical cover of 90cm inc. safety measure against upwelling and a sufficiently dimensioned drainage line are mandatory. Immersion < 65cm 80cm 100cm 120cm 160cm Earth covering > 40cm 50cm 70cm 80cm 90cm 5

Assembling the tank(s) Fit the tank seal. Place the bottom tank shell section, with the open side facing up, on a flat surface. Then press the grooved side of the profiled gasket supplied into the internal groove. Make sure that you press the gasket in uniformly as far as it will go. Grease both sides of the protruding vertical part of the gasket and the internal groove on the top shell tank section(s) generously with the soft soap provided. Install the DN 150 supporting pipe(s) - This special pipe, has 2 end caps and 2 holes and is fitted inside the centre of the tank(s). You will need two people in order to carry out the next step: Fit the top shell tank section(s) - Place the top section on the bottom section, with the gasket in position. Please note the following points: The tank can only be assembled if the two shell sections are in one of two positions (note the position of the arrows in the diagram). Before you push the two shell sections together, turn the top section on the bottom section until the arrows of the tongue and groove system are lined up and the two halves latch into place. Then carefully place the top section on the bottom section. Make sure that the gasket does not slip out of the bottom groove and slips fully into the groove in the top section. Check that the gasket and supporting pipe are both in the correct position. Then use 12 of the 24 quick-fit connectors, adjust manually, and attach alternately on the left and right (note the direction of the arrow on the tank). As the first step, adjust every other quick-fit connector, then place a block of wood over the top and knock firmly into position with a hammer. The connectors will latch into their final position. Then repeat this step with the other 12 quick-fit connectors. If the diameters of the two shell sections are not 100% identical, by gradually attaching the clips in this manner, together with back pressure caused at any overlapping points, will ensure that the two halves fit together properly. Pre-fit the tank access riser DN200 - Which allows access for cleaning with a dirty water pump if necessary. For 3200 litre systems with 2 tanks, sediment will settle out in the first tank, so access for cleaning will be from this tank. Push the DN 200 tank access riser on to the stub. The pipe may be shortened from the top depending on depth of earth coverage. tank access riser DN200 6

Installing and connecting tank(s) and filter in the ground Place the tank(s) into the prepared trench ensuring they are completely flat. Joining more than one tank - (3200 ltr sytem) Connect the tanks at the bottom and top. The bottom connecting pipe balances the water level, while the top connecting pipe is used to ventilate the tank. The water is always drawn from the last tank in the series (nearest the pump), and will contain the floatswitch and intake hose. Fit and grease the special seals in the drilled holes and then fit the pipes into the tank. Make sure that the pipes project at least 30 cm into the tank on both sides so that there is sufficient play if the tanks are displaced. 110mm PVC soil pipes may be used for these connections. Fitting the filter (see page 14 for dimensions) - The external filter is connected via the guttering downpipe to the tank (or first tank for 3200 litre system). Ideally located in close proximity to the property to ensure adequate fall on the tank inlet pipe (1.5%-2% gradient). The filter overflow may be connected to the tank overflow or fed to a separate soakaway/outfall. Note - the filter should be inspected approx. every three months, and cleaned of debris/leaves if required. The lid seal is a tight fit. Inlet and tank overflow - Connect via the top or through the tank wall using a 110mm PVC pipe and seal. For 3200 litre system, the overflow will be from the last tank in series and ensure there is adequate fall on from the tank to the soakaway (1.5%-2% gradient). Delivery and mains top up - The delivery hose is fed through a 110mm PVC pipe from the property to the tank s DN200 riser with an invert of 450mm, below frost level and/or insulated in accordance with BS8515. The mains top up is fed into the top of the tank via a separate duct or via the tank riser. Drill the riser and/or tank to accept a 110mm pipe and seal. The mains top up (direct feed systems) is fed with an optional 28mm nominal pipe from the tundish. The float switch, feeds ideally through the riser and 110mm PVC pipe (at 450 invert) back to the property. The yellow weight should be approximately 200mm from the end of the floatswitch. The float switch should hang approximately 400mm above the base of the tank, it must not sit on the floor of the tank. 8 Installing the pump Refer to schematic diagram on page 15. The pump is suspended from the tank riser. (pic.1.) via a stainless chain, hook and U bolt to a height of between 150mm-200mm above the floor of the rainwater tank The U bolt c/w fixings and penny washers is attached to the riser, on the same side as the duct and the pump secured by the chain and hooks. (pic.2.) The hose tail on the pump is cut down to the first threaded section to allow fitment of the adaptor - 3/4 BSP to 25mm MDPE fitting which is then attached to the 25mm MDPE water pipe, ending in a 90 degree MDPE fitting that connects the pipe feeding the property. (pic.3.) Pipe to feed the property to be supplied by the installers. All fittings to be kept as close to duct as possible to allow easy pump removal. Top tip: wrap insulating tape about 100mm from the end of the push fit fittings, to prevent the blue collar on the push fit coupling disappearing along the pipe. The pump should be connected to a suitably RCD protected supply. Connect the outlet from the pump to the services, i.e.toilets (fit an isolation valve inline) If a header tank is fitted the 25mm pipe should be connected to the rainwater ballcock. The unit is supplied with a junction box to connect the floatswitch and mains top up valve to an RCD protected mains supply. Wiring diagram inside cover, refer to schematic on page 15 for installation depth. Direct Feed Systems with mains top up to the rainwater tank - Connect the PRV (pressure relief valve) before the top up valve and set to 1 bar. The top up valve then connects to the tundish which feeds mains back to the top up rainwater tank. Note - The mains top up water can be fed by either a separate pipe or via a t-section into the pipe used as the rainwater feed pipe via the calming inlet. (110 pipe with 1 off 110) Top tip: when all pipes and cables have been fitted the pipe should be sealed using an expandable polyurethane foam. This will help hold the MDPE pipe in position. Sealing of the outside duct helps with air pressure testing. * Eye bolt MUST be fitted over duct as shown otherwise pump cannot be removed pic.1 pic.2 pic.3 Header tank installation (GRAVITY FEED) Refer to schematic diagram on page 14 & diagram on page 9. The mains header tank consists of a reinforced ball valve, tundish, inlet valve and overflow. Prior to installation the assembly should be prebuilt to ensure that it all fits together correctly as per the diagram on page 14. The float valve s stainless bracket is bolted to the tank. The tundish is fitted to the tank into the hole as per the diagram. Fit the grey and blue float valve to the bracket. 8 Cut the pressure reducer to 26mm from the narrow diameter end and push the cut end into the inlet of the float valve, (smooth domed end pointing out). The outlet spigot on the float valve will require shortening to 20mm to enable the ball valve to sit flush on top of the compression joint on the tundish. Tighten all fittings and inlet valve. Install the header tank into position and feed the pumped rainwater inlet into the 22mm inlet.

Header tank installation (continued) Connect single check valve prior to mains water topup valve. Connect the mains inlet and SUPPORT the mains inlet pipe. Fit an isolation valve. Adjust the float so that the mark on the float arm lines up with the lower mark on the body. Connect the overflow do not reduce down. Commission the system with the rainwater tank full and the rainwater pump connections all checked for tightness. Observe the rainwater topping up the header tank and stopping on closure of the float valve (Torbeck). Flush the toilet and observe the operation of the two floats and ensure that the mains float only discharges when the rainwater supply is off and the level drops below that of the Torbeck valve. Adjust position of floats if required to achieve this. Turn off the pump and flush the services to lower the level in the header tank. Observe the tank filling under mains water. Repeat operation a number of times to purge system of any air or foul water. Unit is now operational. MAINS WATER TOP UP A-A AIR GAP DOUBLE CHECK VALVE OVERFLOW 40mm OUTLET 22mm A A RAINWATER PUMPED INLET 465 Commissioning the system The pump is self priming and will auto prime on a timed basis. Please refer to the pump instructions on pages 12 and 13. With direct feed mains top up the floatswitch and weight MUST be fitted correctly, as per the instructions on page 7. Incorrect float installation will result in either the loss of or excessive mains water top up. Note - Any leaks on the delivery side will cause the pump to run continuously and eventually heat up the water in the tank. ALL CONNECTIONS MUST BE LEAK FREE. Backfilling DO NOT BACKFILL UNTIL CONFIDENT EVERYTHING HAS BEEN INSTALLED CORRECTLY AND CHECKED. Fill the tank with water to a depth of 30cm. Replace up to the overflow in a single step. Fill the rest of the the top-soil evenly around the tank (make sure that it trench as before. contains no sharp stones or rubble). 12 Pump instructions SAFETY MEASURES Before starting the pump, read this instruction booklet carefully and keep it in a safe place for future reference. The pump must only be used for the purpose for which it was designed. For safety reasons the pump must not be used by anyone under the age of 16 or by anyone who has not read and understood the present instructions booklet. The power cord and floating switch must never be used to carry or move the pump. Always use the pump s handle. When handling the pump, while it is connected to the electric power supply, you should avoid all contact with water. Never remove the plug by pulling on the power cord. Before taking any action on the pump, always remove the plug from the power socket. If the power supply cord has been damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its authorized customer support service in order to avoid all risks. The pump is equipped with a thermal overload safety device. In the event of any overheating of the motor, this device automatically switches off the pump. The cooling time is roughly 15 to 20 minutes, then the pump automatically comes on again. If the overload cutout is tripped, it is essential to identify and deal with the cause of the overheating. See Troubleshooting. USE Multi-impeller submersible pumps with buit-in electronics ideal for rain water and mains irrigation systems, for pumping water from tanks, ponds and wells and other applications that require high pressure. The pump is equipped with a built-in electronic control unit which manages its operation (pump ON/FF) and prevents damages. The electronics protects the pump against dry running conditions: Priming cycle: When started, the pump will perform the following operation until it is primed: four priming trials of 30 (motor ON) with pauses of 3 (motor OFF). If there is no water, i.e. if the priming trials fail, the pump will stop for an hour before trying to prime again. If also this trial fails, there will be a 5 hours pause. Afterwards, if the lack of water persists, the pump will try to prime every 24 hours until it has picked up a prime. Normal Operation: If, during the pumps operation, the water supply is inferior to the minimum delivery for more than 40, the pump will go into alarm, and start a priming cycle. In this case the priming trials are made after 1, 5, and 24 hours until the pump picks up a prime. The electronic unit also protects the pump from damages that could be caused by the blocking of the Not Return Valve (NRV). Such blockings are generally due to dirt deposits, or sand and they cause the pump to operate also if there is no water demand from the end-user. The protection function stops the pump automatically every hour; if no damage is detected the pump re-starts immediately. If the VNR is blocked the pump goes into alarm and stops. In this case the pump can be re-started only after unplugging the pump and removing the obstruction to the VNR. The best working condition is with the pump be completely submersed in water. Anyway the motor s cooling system allows the use at the minimum suction height for very short periods. The pump is equipped with a stainless steel anti-deposit filter The temperature of the fluid being pumped must never exceed 35 C. The pump must not be used to pump salt water (unless specifically designed for the purpose), sewage, flammable, corrosive or explosive liquids (e.g. petroleum oil, petrol, thinners), grease, oils or foodstuffs. Comply with the rules and regulations of the local water authority when using the pump for the supply of domestic water. 12

STARTING THE PUMP Given the different provisions applicable to the safety of electric systems in different countries, make sure that the pump system, as concerns its intended use, is in accordance with current legislation. Before starting the pump, make sure that: the voltage and frequency specified on the pump s nameplate coincide with those of the available power supply; there are no signs of damage to the pump or its power cord; the electric connection is made in a dry place, protected against any risk of flooding; the electric system is complete with a residual current circuit-breaker (I n 30 ma) and an efficient earthing connection; Any extension cords must comply with the requirements of the DIN VDE standard RECOMMENDATIONS To ensure the proper operation of the pump, it is important to comply with the following recommendations: The pump must only be used when it is immersed in water. The pump must be placed in a stable position inside a trap or in the lowest part of the place where it is installed. Periodically, it is advisable to make sure that no dirt (leaves, sand, etc.) has accumulated in the collection trap. MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING It is absolutely essential to prevent any risk of the pump freezing. In the event of freezing temperatures, remove the pump from the liquid, empty it and keep it in a place where it cannot freeze. The pump must be disconnected from the mains power supply before any cleaning operation is performed. The pump is maintenance free. TROUBLESHOOTING Before taking any troubleshooting action, disconnect the pump from the power supply (i.e. remove the plug from the socket). If there is any damage to the power cable or pump, any necessary repairs or replacements must be performed by the manufacturer or his authorized customer support service, or by an equally-qualified party, in order to prevent all risks. Fault Possible causes Solutions The motor does not start or makes no noise. A) The motor is not powered. B) There is no water (pump in alarm mode) C) The VNR is blocked (pump in alarm mode) A) Check the power supply B) Check the water level C) Clean the valve The pump delivers no water. The flow rate is too low. The pump stops running (possible intervention of the thermal overload switch). A) The suction grid or piping are clogged. B) The impeller is worn or stuck. A) The suction grid is partially blocked. B) The impeller or delivery pipe are partially blocked or encrusted. A) The liquid to be pumped is too dense and overheats the motor. B) The water temperature is too high. C) A solid object is blocking the impeller. D) Power supply doesn t comply with the nameplate s data. A) Remove the obstruction. B) Replace the impeller or remove the obstruction. A) Remove any obstructions. B) Remove any obstructions. A-B-C-D) Disconnect the power cord, correct the reason for overheating; then wait until the pump is cooled, plug the cord and resume operation. 13
