2.3 Setup - Vehicle database Standard (Main) Database There are two databases in the system: - Main Database: Items can not be changed. This will be changed if you buy an update of specs. File is read only. Protected by dongle. switch to customized cars data base with Select a Make to come to the car selection itself Page 8 of

Here you can copy an existing car to a customized car, change values and store in CUSTOM database (Still not included in the first version) Customized cars database Database of customer-specific extensions All data can be changed This will not be changed if making an update. Add, edit or delete manufacturers Add, edit or delete cars switch to standard Database with make a new entry with Page 9 of

Create complete new customized car (using an existing brand or a new one) Go to setup and press the database button: First you see the Main database. Switch to customized data. You will get the list of customized manufacturers. (This is empty in the beginning) Now press the button * Type in the existing manufacturer you want to add the car to this series. Software is checking the main database and brings you correct manufacturer and Logo. * If you want to create a new brand name, type in the name you want to use. Confirm with Page 10 of

If you want to add another brand, press the button Create new cars using the new brand Simply click on the name of the manufactures name in our case here " NEWBRAND" Some more Icon appear on the screen: Add a new customized car to this manufacturer. Delete an existing customized car of this manufacturer. Edit an existing customized car of this manufacturer. If you press the button you can add a new vehicle to the customized database: Page 11 of

Type in all necessary information. If there are no information about fuel tank and load always use the "0" After confirmation the next screen with the car selection appears: to enter values click on the car's name: now appears: Page 12 of

Now the software is ready to get some values. Please urgently note: - jump to the next box ALWAYS with the Tab-key - Take care of minus and plus values - TOE values are always TOTAL toe. The software divides the basic toe value by two (for each side) -Tolerances in TOE are for each single side Press to save and exit Calibration Please see separate manual for calibration 2.5. 16 Vehicle Database If there are more than one data bases installed on the PC - you can select the current data base Angle units Select if you want to have: - degrees in decimal (1 =100') - arc degrees (1 =60#') Toe units Select if you want to have: - degrees (like selected in "Angle unit") - length (like selected in "linear units") Linear units Select if you want to have: - inch - mm Resolution Select if you want to have: - Normal (0,10 degrees) - High (0,01 degrees) Screen language Select language Select report: Select the print out: - text - graphics Report logo selection If you want to have a logo of your company in the printout, prepare a *.PNG file with following features: -- Use a PNG file with 520x720 pixel (best fitting, can be smaller) -- Create a Folder in C.\program files\ssence\logos\ called "report" -- Store the picture(s) in this folder, all valid names allowed. -- There can be more pictures, make selection over the parameter settings. -- The selected logo appears in your printout. Page 15 of

2.6. Store name and address (workshop data) Enter all data of your store or garage. This information will appear on all the printouts Camera view The camera view is to control the situation of the cameras during every step of the program. Check if communication between target and camera is OK. All targets must be complete visible in every situation. (also Push-pull and caster swing) If you place the target closer to the camera you see if the surface is dirty or parts of the refection points are damaged. Page 16 of

Here you can compare values of all 4 targets. The camera view is avaliable all the time you work with the program. By pressing F11 you can check the situation every time. LF = left front, RF=rear front; LR= left rear, RR= rear right RMS describes the situation of each dot on the target viewed from the camera. You can say this is a meter of the reflection and condition of the targets. The smaller, the better is the result. (Should be under 0,05) Target Blobs quantity of dots found on the target. Inside parenthesis the quantity that must be visible for this kind of high resolution machine. (Must be 25) Intensity(strobe) means the brightness reflect from the target, (must be over 60), the strobe relate to the LED brightness The STROBE value shows the intensity of the IR LEDs in relation to the mirroring of the targets in the camera. This makes it possible to automatically adjust the illumination of the IR LEDs. Distance means the distance from the camera to target Target angle shows the angle of each target Number of planes means the targets number, be caught by the camera, in a certain period Number of images means the original image camera got in a certain period no matter with or without view the target. 20 2.8. Prepare vehicle and equipment Be sure to have fuel filling as necessary Be sure to have weights or persons to sit in the car if necessary. be sure to have a steering water level Check front turn plates from time to time if they are OK. On the vehicles to align some preparation must be done. Place the car on the lift and check before alignment: Correct air pressure in the tires. For diagnosis: be sure that the steering can be moved to left and right. Check all parts of the steering and wheel suspension for damage and wear. Rear slip plates are not necessary. If you have some, fix it. During alignment you will be asked about the load of the car and the quantity of fuel that is necessary. For a correct alignment this must be considered. When the car is moved up or down on the lift, be sure to have fixed the turning plate lock pins. Page 19 of

3. Alignment with SSENCE Be sure that all requirements are checked before starting alignment. (see last page) 3.1. New alignment - select a car There are two ways to select the correct data for your car: VIN code: or after entering this page the VIN scanner is automatically active. Simply scan the code of the car and the right data are selected. The program automatically goes to the next step. If the VIN code is not found in the database the program automaticaly switches to manual selection (see next chapter 3.1.2) The VIN code scanner simulates a keyboard. If, for any reason, the scanner is not present or not working, you can enter the VIN code also by keyboard. Page 20 of

Select manufacturer and type with the database First select a manufacturer then the model you need. If you are looking for a specific type, press the button with first letter, the search will jump to the first entries. Select Manufacturer of the car. (In this example we select the ACURA.) Next step is to find the correct model of your car. Select the model. Page 21 of

3.2. Customer data Enter customers data here. This will be shown in the printout and stored with the alignment Vehicle data You can enter the license plate number or chassis number. Page 22 of

3.4. Select type of alignment For both alignment types (2-wheel and 4-wheel) the first steps are the same wheel alignment This is not really a complete alignment. 2 wheel alignment is made for a fast diagnostic after an accident or if unsure if parts are damaged. Only the toe and camber are measured after push-pull. There is no caster swing and within no values of caster wheel alignment To make a complete alignment please select 4 wheel alignment. The rear axle has a significant effect to the front so it is absolute important to have a correct rear axle before front adjustment. Push-pull must be done to find the points of the calculation plane. Then the caster swing must be done to find the values of caster. Page 23 of

Load and fuel level On some cars it is necessary to load the chassis in order to reach the correct setting values. Load the necessary weights and fuel into the car to get best and exact results. Please note, if you ignore this, it may be, that the necessary settings can not be achieved Push pull (on 2-wheel and 4-wheel alignment The push pull is necessary to find the virtual axis point of the calculation plane. To avoid shakes fix the steering wheel with the supplied steering lock. The turntables front and -if existing- rear must be locked. You can first move the car forwards or backwards, the program recognizes the direction Page 24 of

Move the car in front/rear until the counter is 0 Waiting for start... Move the car forward or backward until10 Wait until processing is finished, then go in the opposite direction to come back to starting position. Calculation Move back Calculation Ready, next step If some steps take more time to calculate, probably some shakes occur between the single steps. To avoid making the complete procedure again, the software needs longer to calculate again. Page 25 of

3.6. Finding the caster angle (caster swing (not on two wheel alignment)) On the two wheel alignment this point will be skipped, program is going directly to the adjustment screen. Four Wheel Alignment After successful push/pull the angles of the caster must be found. For this the steering must be moved left and right without moving the car itself. First step to prepare is to unlock the turntables that they can move free. Second step is to lock the brakes because the car must be fixed, only steering should move left and right. Page 26 of

3.7. Caster Swing Pending on the requirements of the car (or manufacturer) it is necessary to measure the caster angle with 10 or 20. The program gives you both variations by one step. Normal procedure is: Caster swing with 10 During caster swing only the front targets are necessary. Don't mind to cover rear targets if you are close to the car door to turn the steering wheel. First turn the steering wheel to the first position on the left (-10 ). If you stop at 10 wait for calculation then turn to the 10 position on the right side. Also here stop and wait for calculation. If program stops or freezes, urgently check with F11 if the camera detects both front targets.. Page 27 of

Caster Swing with 20 If you must do a caster swing with 20, just click on the button with the 20 and steer to the left or right until 20, stop and wait. The program automatically offers you to go to 20 After you stop at 20 the program wants you to steer to the right. Go on with 20 Page 28 of

Caster Swing max (full steering) If you wait at 20 the program switches to 45 and allows the measurement of the full steering MISSING PICTURE If you have choosen the correct angle, go back to the right side and do the same. After the last step go away from the car to allow the machine to see the rear targets. It will go to the next step then Values for RA and FA or similar values Some cars request measurements or other input to make a precise alignment. If the database requires more input to find correct data for the selected car, please enter data like shown in the shown pictures. RA = rear axle FA = front axle Please make necessary measurements directly on the car and type in the values. Page 29 of

3.8. First Results before adjustment. For a first diagnose of the car all recorded values of camber, caster and toe are shown in a table. This is also to print out to give it to the customer or if data are necessary for a warranty case. "DIMENSION - Please refer to chapter 6.2 "DIMENSION" screen PRINTOUT - Please refer to chapter 6.1 "PRINTOUT" screen Page 30 of

4. Adjustment 4.1. Rear axle The first adjustment screen is always the rear axle. The rear axle is most important if measure a car. If you ignore the rear axle, the alignment can not be done correctly. Freeze Caster, camber and toe adjust if car is in elevated condition. THRUST ANGLE The driving direction of the rear axle, known as the thrust axle, is determined by the toe-in angle of the rear wheels. The thrust angle is defined by the difference between the axis of symmetry of the vehicle and the thrust axis. If the thrust angle does not return to zero, as the vehicle moves, the front wheels will steer in the same direction as the rear wheel, so that the vehicle proceeds in a straight line. As a result, the bodywork is slanted in relation to the driving direction (also known as dog-step ). The thrust angle is negative when the thrust axis is slanted to the left and positive when slanted to the right. Of course, there is no caster in the rear. Page 31 of

4.2. Front axle Freeze Caster, camber and Toe adjust if car is in elevated condition. CASTER The caster angle is the angle between the centre-line of the wheel upright and the vertical of the ground when observing the vehicle from the side. The caster angle is positive when the extension of the upright falls in front of the wheel in relation to the driving direction of the vehicle. The caster angle is negative when the extension of the upright falls behind the wheel in relation to the driving direction of the vehicle. CAMBER Wheel camber is the angle between the center-line of the wheel and the ground vertical when observing the vehicle from the front. The camber is positive when the wheel leans out at the top. The camber is negative when the wheel leans in at the top. TOE Observing the vehicle from the top, wheel toe-in is the angle formed by the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and the plane passing through the center-line of the wheel. Toe-in is positive (wheels closed) when the continuations passing through the center-line of the wheel tend to meet in a forwards position compared with the vehicle direction of movement; toe-in is negative (wheels open) when the continuations passing through the center-line of the wheel tend to meet in a rearwards position compared with thevehicle direction of movement. The toe-in of each single wheel is defined as TOE. TOTAL TOE is the sum of left and right toe-in of the wheels belonging on the same axle. Although these definitions may suggest that toe-in values are expressed in degrees, they are normally indicated by manufacturers as tolerances in millimeters. To express toe-in in millimeters, reference is made to two measurements performed at the wheel hub: toe-in in mm is the difference between the measurement A and B. When the value of toe-in is expressed in mm, it is easily understood that at the same angle the measurement in mm is directly proportional to the dimensions of the rim. Page 32 of

Adjust the values that the indicators are inside tolerance. Take care that the toe is always similar to the other side: Cars behavior is different if the toe is adjusted to different directions. The vehicle has a good straight-ahead, but the steering movements require a little more power. Road bumps and grooves are ignored more directly, the vehicle is on track. The vehicle tends more to follow the structure of the road. The steering movements are lighter, the vehicle follows the grooves on the ground, the driving becomes more restless Help for adjustment If you move the cursor over the word TOE,CAMBER or CASTER a small graphic appears to give you more information how to adjust the hardware of the car. This is only available in Autodata data base Page 33 of

5. Result of alignment On the last page of adjustment, you see a table with measurement results before adjustment (left) and current values after correction (right) Please don t mind that there are no results in the example. The screen shots are taken from demo version. The alignment will be saved automatically in the working database. Please see also chapter 6.3. Page 34 of

6. Special functions 6.1. Printout of results Whenever there is a print out possible by clicking this button you have the choice between: Print out in table form, only black white Print out in table form with colors. Page 35 of

Print out as a graphic in color After Selection of the form you want to print, you can select: Print: to print out on the standard defined printer Save to file: Make a PDF-file of the print. This is to transfer the file by a USB stick to another computer for printing or storing. Page 36 of

6.2. Vehicle dimensions Whenever there is a result you will find a button that shows a wrench. Here are special functions behind. Here, on the result page you can switch to the Vehicle Dimensions. Clicking on it brings you to the first screen of the dimensions. Here you see all offsets of axles and wheels. With the first button you can switch to the next dimensions page. The second button allows a printout of both screens. Page 37 of

This is the second dimensions screen. It shows the diagonal and direct distances. Here is no printout possible because both screens will be printed on previous screen. If you want to switch to mm or inch please go to SETUP/PARAMETER Go back to previous screen Ready, go out of dimensions. Page 38 of

6.3. Earlier measurements You will find earlier alignments in the start screen. Here you can search the alignmets with the licence number or with customers name. All measurements of the machine will be stored automatically. If you enter a customer s name in the beginning of the alignment, the result will be stored under the name of the customer. If you skip this step the alignment will be stored under the customer name with If you click on this you will see all alignment Page 39 of

These alignment are don t without specific customers name. Sorted by date. Page 40 of

7. Maintenance of the machine 7.1. File backup and computer maintenance From the first alignment on it is important to save data of the alignments. The best way to do this is to buy a USB stick and make a backup of the working files in every week. When ever an alignment is stored, data will be written in: The AD.DBF is the standard work file with all alignments, special customized cars and individual data of the program. SSENCE 500 software works with all operating systems from Windows 7 32 Bit Software up to every later version, included 64 bit. This computer should not be used for other applications (except Backup and virus protection is recommended.). Operation of other software will void the warranty. If you have to install a printer, first install software then connect the printer. Also refer to the manual of the used device. There is not really a plan to clean the PC but check from time to time inside the computer if the cooling devices of processor and graphic card are free of dust. (A garage is a very dirty environment for a computer.) If this happens, open the housing of the computer and remove the dust carefully with air pressure. Do not use a vacuum cleaner! Parts of the computer can be swallowed by the vacuum cleaner There is a dongle installed for encryption the database This hard lock is your license for the database. Do not loose it; as replacement you have to buy a new license for the database. Always shut down Windows in a regular way. Never press Reset button or disconnect electricity. Page 41 of

7.2. Maintenance of clamps and targets Keep the surface of target disk clean. Use a soft dry cloth to wipe and avoid surface scratches. Do not remove target from the clamp. Position between target and clamp may not be changed. When fixing clamp with target, use the delivered protection strap for fixing the clamp on the rim. The clamps should not be damaged, broken or deformed; Regularly lubricate the screw rod and sliding bar to ensure the flexibility. (Vaseline) Regularly fasten each connecting bolt. If unused, put it on the bracket on the cabinet to avoid damage which may influence measuring accuracy and equipment life. If the tips of the pylon have serious wearing, please replace them in time to avoid scratching the wheel rim; From time to time check the turn plates for damages or wear. If the finger is loose, the fixing bolt must be fastened. The aluminium turn plates do not require lubrication. Just clean them with air pressure from time to time. You also can open the plates to clean if they are difficult to move. Page 42 of
