4 The Amber Mobility app The Amber Mobility app is available for iphones using ios 10 or higher, and for Android devices using Android 4.3 or higher. With the app, users can log into their account, reserve a car, and lock and unlock their reserved car. Logging in The first time you open the app, a login screen appears. Here, you can enter the address and password you used to register for the service. The app stores this information so that you won t have to log in every time you use the app. If you ve forgotten your password, you can click on the link Forgot your password? to reset it. As soon as you re logged in, you can choose from five different options on the main menu screen: Reservations, Reserve a car, My trip, Profile, and Other. Reservations In the first option Reservations you ll see an overview of all your upcoming reservations. Each reservation has a name, destination, and start and end time. To the left of the reservation you will also be able to see at what time the car will be available for you. The car will always be available 15 minutes before the start time of your reservation. Clicking on an individual reservation will reveal Edit and Delete buttons, which you can use to change or cancel your reservation. Reserving a car You can use the Reserve a car function to make a reservation. Reserving a car can be done in two different ways: You can enter a reservation manually, or you can connect your calendar to the app and make a reservation for an exisitng appointment. Calendar reservations To make a calendar reservation, click on the Calendar tab, and click on an existing appointment in your calendar. Then, enter the location of the appointment, and the app will use this to calculate the driving time to the appointment. As soon as you ve filled in all the necessary information, click on Done at the top right of the screen. If you d like to take a car home with you in the evening, either before or after an appointment, then you ll need to make a manual reservation. Manual reservations You can make a manual reservation by clicking on the Manual tab. In this menu you can fill in the start time (the time at which you want to leave for your appointment), the end time, and the location of the appointment. You can also give your appointment a name. If you d like to take a car home with you in the evening, then you can make a manual reservation that starts on the day you d like to take the car home, and ends when you bring it back to work the next day. As soon as you ve filled in all the necessary informaiton, click Done at the top right of the screen. 4

5 My trip The My trip screen is the app s main screen, that you ll use during a reservation. If you don t have any running reservations, the screen will be blank. If you ve got a running reservation, you will see a map with your location as well as the location of your reserved car. By swiping upwards on the the My car screen, you can see information about your reserved car. This information includes the license plate number, the remaining battery level, and whether the car is locked or unlocked. The Unlock/Lock button serves as the car s key using this button you can lock and unlock the car, while standing within ~10 meters of the car. Additional information on the My car screen includes the duration of your reservation so far, and the distance traveled on the current reservation. When you ve completed your trip, end the reservation by clicking End at the top right of the screen. The app will only allow you to end your reservation once you ve parked the car in an Amber parking space and turned the car off. CAUTION: If you end your reservation you will no longer have access to that car! After ending your reservation a feedback screen will pop up, in which you ll be asked if you were satisfied with the reservation and the trip. You can also leave more comments if desired. Profile On the Profile screen, you can find an overview of all the trips you ve made with Amber, in chronological order. For every reservation you ll see the details of the appointment, the actual duration of the reservation (in minutes), and the distance traveled. You can also log out of the app at the top right of the Profile screen. Other On the last screen you ll find a brief overview of the most frequently asked questions (FAQs), as well as the possibility to send an with your question or feedback. For urgent questions or problems, you can also call the Amber Help Desk by clicking on Call helpdesk. 5

6 The BMW i3 Amber uses the BMW i3, a fully-electric 4-seater hatchback. The battery range of the car is between 200 and 240 kilometers, depending on the driving style. The top speed of the car is 150 km/h. All cars are equipped with air conditioning, electric brakes, parking sensors in front and back, a backup camera (reversing camera), an infotainment system with AUX and USB interface, and a Bluetooth phone connection. All cars are also equipped with various safety systems such as ABS (anti-lock brakes), electronic stability control, and a traction control system. Starting the car To start the car, hold the brake pedal and press the START/STOP button on the drive selector handle to the right behind the steering wheel. This engages the electric motor. You will hear a sound signal and the word READY will appear on the dashboard screen. CAUTION: If you press the START/STOP button without pushing simultaneously on the brake pedal, only the car s dahboard will be engaged, and the electric motor will not be connected. 7 Changing gears Use the drive selector handle to the right behind the steering wheel to select a driving mode: Park, Neutral, Drive, or Reverse. The brake pedal must be pushed in, in order to change between driving modes. Drive (D) To drive forwards tilt the drive selector towards the dashboard, while holding the brake pedal, until the letter D is illuminated. Pressing the accelerator pedal automatically disengages the hand brake, and you are free to drive off. There is no need to change gears to go faster the car works just like an automatic transmission car. Reverse (R) To go into reverse mode, hold the brake pedal and tilt the drive selector towards you, until the letter R is illuminated. The parking sensors will be activated and you will be able to see the image from the backup camera on the dashboard display. The car is now ready to drive backwards. Park (P) After parking the car, hold the brake pedal and press the P-button on top of the drive selector lever. The letter P will be illuminated and the handbrake is automatically engaged. You can now release the brake pedal. Parking the car After parking the car, whether at an appointment or at the end of you reservation, please follow these steps: - Press the START/STOP button while holding the brake pedal. The car will disengage and enter the Park mode (P) - Engage the hand brake by pulling upwards on the button in the middle console. - Connect the car to a charging station if possible. - Make sure all doors and windows are closed, then open the Amber Mobility app. - Click on the Lock button in the My trip menu. The car will now lock itself. Make sure that all doors are locked before walking away. To end your reservation, click on End in the top right corner of the My trip menu. If you want to keep your reservation active, simply close the Amber Mobility app. 7

8 Dashboard controls All car functions can be accessed via the idrive buttons between the front seats. Many functions can also be accessed via the buttons on the steering wheel. Figure 1: idrive buttons on the BMW i3 middle console. Electric driving Electric driving is somewhat different than driving in a conventional fuel-powered car. The following are the most important differences: Regenerative braking Releasing the accelerator in an electric car makes the car automatically brake, which then charges the battery. This is called regenerative braking, and is more efficient, especially in urban environments. This means that in most situations, you won t have to use the brake pedal. Limited range and ECO PRO Electric cars unfortunately don t yet have the same range capacity as fuel-powered cars. The Amber Mobility app always keeps track of the distance you need to travel and the battery level of the car. However, if you still think you might not reach your destination with the remaining battery level of the car, you can put the car in ECO PRO or ECO PRO+ mode, using the buttons to the right of the driver s seat. The energy usage of the car is much less in these two driving modes, and the battery range of the car will increase. Charging the car In the Amber service, the cars are used intensively every day, which means that it s extremely important to charge the cars whenever possible. We ask you to always park the car at a charging station whenever possible. 8

9 Chaging Finding a charging station An easy way to find charging stations in the Netherlands is to use the NewMotion app (available for download on ios and Android). In this app, you can find all public charging stations. Before you choose a charging station, you must first filter the stations based on type of charging plug. In the app, click on the funnel icon in the top right corner and select the type of plug Type 2 Mennekes en Combo. Now the map will only show the charging stations suitable for the BMW i3. 9

10 The maximum capacity (in kilowatt hours kw) of each charging station is marked in the information about the station. The higher the capacity of the station, the faster the car will charge. The table below gives an indication of the time it takes to charge the car. The last 20% of charging goes slower because the charging station slowly stops until the car is fully charged. Charging capacity Charging time (0 to 80%) Charging time (0 to 100%) 3.7 kw 7.4 kw 11 kw 22 kw 50 kw 7 hours 3,5 hours 2,5 hours 80 minutes 30 minutes 10 hours 5 hours 3,5 hours 2 hours 1 hours Charging the car After parking the car at a charging station, please follow these intructions to start the charging session: - Retrieve the charging card from the cardholder in the car s glove compartment. - Retrieve the charging cable from the trunk of the car. - Connect the cable: the smaller end to the charging station and the larger end to the car. The car s cable connection can be found on the back righ-hand side of the car, and looks like a fuel tank cap. To open the compartment, simply press the cap. - Hold the charging card in front of the card reader on the charging station until the charging station reacts and the charging session starts. - Place the charging card back in the card holder in the glove compartment and close the car, locking it with the app. You can track the car s charging process via the My trip menu in the app. To disconnect the car from the charging station and end the charging session, simply follow the above instructions in reverse order. First place the charging card in front of the card reader on the charging station, then disconnect the cable. During the charging session, the cable is locked in place at both ends. 10

11 Frequently asked questions The service Is the help desk always available? When can I use Amber Mobility? Can I take other people with me in the car? Can I take a car home with me if I have an appointment early or late in the day? Can I take a car home with me over the weekend? Can I use the cars for private errands or trips? I want to stop using the Amber service. How can I do that? Yes, the help desk is available at all times at +31 (0) You can use Amber Mobility at any time, for business and commuter travel. Keep in mind that it may not be possible to access the cars at night depending on the rules of your work location. Yes, you can take up to 3 extra people with you in the cars. The person driving the car must always be the one who made the reservation, however. Yes, that s allowed. You ll have to make a manual reservation in the app that starts on the day you want to reserve the car and ends on the day you want to bring it back. You will also have to charge the car overnight. Yes, that s possible, so long as the car is back at the hub before Monday at 9:00 (unless you plan to use the car for an appointment on Monday morning). No, this is unfortunately not allowed. For legal reasons, only work-work and home-work trips are allowed. Send an to helpdesk@ambermobility.com and we ll take it from there. The Amber Mobility app I can t lock or unlock the car. I can t see a car assigned to me even though I have a running reservation. How do I connect my calendar with the app? I don t see a car assigned to me after making a reservation. Did I do anything wrong? Make sure that you ve installed the latest app update. Then try closing and re-opening the app. If this still doesn t work, please call the help desk. It can take 30 seconds or so for your reserved car to appear in the app. If it doesn t show up after then, please call the help desk. The first time that you start the app, you will be asked if you want to connect your calendar. Otherwise, you can always go to Settings on your phone and select the Amber Mobility app. Here you can give the app permission to access your calendar. 10 minutes before the start time of your reservation you will be able to see which car has been assigned to you. Until then no car will show as being assigned. aangeeft. 11

12 The travel time that the app calculated for my trip is too short. Can I edit this? I forgot my user name and/or password. What do I do now? No, unfortunately not. The app takes into account a margin of error for the travel time, and also keeps track of real-time delays on the road. If you want to leave earlier, you can make a manual reservation and enter an earlier departure time Click on the button Forgot your password? on the login screen and follow the instructions. Reservations and appointments Can I change or cancel my reservation? I unexpectedly need a car. Can I use one immediately? Where can I find my past reservations? My appointment is running over time or is running later than expected. Should I do anything? How can I make a reservation for multiple appointments in a row? Can I use the car the whole day for one long appointment? Does the regular hourly rate also apply at night if I take the car home with me? Yes, you can change or cancel your reservation by clicking on the reservation. This will bring up the Edit and Cancel buttons. Yes, you can. You can make a manual reservation using the current time as the reservation start time, and you will be directly assigned a car. On the Profile screen you ll find a list of all your past reservations, in chronological order. No, you don t have to do anything. Your reserva-tion will remain active as long as the car remains away from the hub. As soon as you return the car to the hub, the reservation will end. If you d like to drive directly from one appointment to the other, you can make two separate reservations, and the app will connect them automatically, so that you can use the same car for multiple appointments. Yes, you can. However, keep in mind that the reservation time will still run (with the normal hourly price) for the time that the car is parked. No, the rates are a bit different at night. Between 7:00 and 19:00 the regularly hourly rate applies to all use of the car, whether driving or parked. Between 19:00 and 7:00 the regular hourly rate only applies for the time the car is in use; parking time is free. The car I left something in the car. What should I do? The car is really dirty. Can I get a different car? I can t get the car started. Just call the help desk and we ll make sure your belongings are returned to you. Yes, you can report this to the help desk. If possi-ble, we ll assign you a different car, and make sure that the other is cleaned. Make sure that the hand brake is disengaged, and be sure to hold the brake pedal while pressing the START/ STOP button and changing gears on the drive selector. Still doesn t work? Please call the help desk. 12

13 How can I drive more efficiently with the BMW i3? Is parking free because I m driving an electric car? By putting the car into ECO PRO or ECO PRO+ mode using the buttons on the middle console, you will use less energy and increase the car s range. No, parking is not free for electric cars. You are still responsible for paying your own parking fees and tickets. Charging the car I need to drive farther than the car s battery range will allow. What should I do? I can t find a charging station. I can t disconnect the charging cable from the car. I can t disconnect the charging cable from the charging station. The charging station shows an error and the charging session won t start. I m stuck on the side of the road with an empty battery. What should I do? Can I use a fast-charger to charge the car? Who pays for charging the car? If the difference in distance/range is small, you can put the car into ECO PRO or ECO PRO+ mode, and accelerate and drive slower. If the dif-ference is too large, the app will warn you that you will have to charge the car at your destina-tion. Using the NewMotion app, you can locate all public charging stations in the Netherlands. If there s no charging station in the neighborhood of your destination, please call the help desk. Make sure that you ve ended the charging session by presenting the charging card in front of the card reader on the charging station. Still can t remove the cable? Call the help desk. CAUTION: Do not drive off leaving the cable attached to the charging station! If possible, try connecting to a different charging station. If not, then call the service number on the charging station and report the problem. Call the help desk and we ll help you. Yes, you can. Stations with a Combo or CCS-plug will allow you to charge the car to 80% of full capacity within 30 minutes. Amber always pays for the electricity to charge the car, via the charging card in the glove compartment of the car. This is why you should always use the correct charging card that belongs to the car. Damage and fines I damaged the car while driving it. What should I do? What are the fines if I damage the car? Always call the help desk immediately. We will also ask you to take pictures of the damage and send them to us. Every user has a payable deductible of 135 per damage incident, provided that you report the damange to us directly. If you do not report the damage, you will have to pay a maximum fine of

14 I have a flat tire. What should I do? I received a traffic or parking ticket. Should I report this? Where can I find the car s registration papers? Call the help desk and we ll help you get it changed. No, you don t have to report this. When we receive the fine notice we will send it to the user who was using the car at the time. You can find a copy of the car registration papers in the glove compartment. 14
