Battery charge gauge The number of segments lit on the battery charge is determined by the available charge and the quantity of the charge that the battery is able to stock at the current temperature. Battery capacity level gauge The indicator evolves according to the temperature, the age of the battery and of its use. 28
Warning indicator of a low battery charge If this indicator turns on, charge as soon as possible, preferably before the indicator of the available battery charge reaches the bottom line. The charging cable for a conventional socket is always available in the trunk of the vehicle. 29
6. Maximize your driving range CONTENTS 1. The project 2. The Nissan LEAF 3. The charging docks 4. Driving the LEAF 5. Charging the LEAF 6. Maximize your driving range 7. What to do in the case of an accident or a power failure 8. Subscriber s responsibilities 30
Factors affecting the driving range km per charge Reduces the driving range Strong accelerations and high speed Turning the air conditioning on Condition Driving style Climate control use Increases the driving range Slow accelerations and moderate speed Turning the air conditioning off Highway Road type City Heavy load Load Light load Uphill Road conditions Flat or downhill 31
In cases of extreme temperatures Take note that using the air conditioning or heating intensively greatly reduces the vehicle's driving range. Do not leave the vehicle parked in a temperature below -20 C or above +45 C unless it is plugged into a charging dock. In the case of cold temperatures, favour the heating seats and steering wheel function rather than the whole vehicle as to maximize its driving range. 32
In brief, to maximize your driving range Opt for a smooth drive, at a moderate and steady speed. Choose the «ECO»driving mode. Limit your use of air conditioning and heating, or if necessary, use the heating seats and steering wheel function. 33
7. What to do in the case of an accident or a power failure CONTENTS 1. The project 2. The Nissan LEAF 3. The charging docks 4. Driving the LEAF 5. Charging the LEAF 6. Maximize your driving range 7. What to do in the case of an accident or a power failure 8. Subscriber s responsibilities 34
What to do in the case of an accident or a power failure The vehicle is not equipped with a spare tire. An emergency repair kit is stored in a cache to the left of the trunk. The vehicle must never be towed with its front wheels on the ground so as to not damage the vehicle. In case of a problem, call us! in Québec City : in Montreal : Tell the agent you speak with that you are dealing with an electric vehicle. 35
8. Subscriber s responsibilities CONTENTS 1. The project 2. The Nissan LEAF 3. The charging docks 4. Driving the LEAF 5. Charging the LEAF 6. Maximize its driving range 7. What to do in the case of an accident or a power failure 8. Subscriber s responsibilities 36
Subscriber s responsibilities Before you leave the station, make sure that the battery charge will allow you to complete your trip. Accept the CARWINGS system each time you start the vehicle (see image below). Respect the kilometres you have specified when you made your reservation, and drive in a reasonable fashion as to allow the next subscriber to complete his intended route. Plug in the vehicle at the charging dock when you return to the station. Park in the spaces assigned to Communauto and identified as Electric Vehicles. To the left: the screen which allows you to accept the CARWINGS system. To the right: the sign posts for the electric vehicles. 37
Role and responsibility of the test-user Evaluate the informational elements put in place as well as your experience as to facilitate the use of the electric vehicles for the other Communauto subscribers by answering our online survey on Share your experience with your friends, colleagues, family Partake in discussions on Communopolis, Facebook or Twitter. 38
