Protection of maritime applications Components in fire protection system installed on IMO ships should be tested in accordance to IMO (International Maritime Organization) component and fire test standards, and should be approved by a classification company. 2.1 International Maritime Organization (IMO) Standards IMO component and fire test standards for watermist systems cover systems for all applications on ships. Below is described which application onboard a ship is covered by the different standards: Application Accommodation, public spaces and service areas Machinery spaces category A and cargo pump-rooms including bilge areas. 7 3. Accommodation, public spaces and service areas on ships. Accommodation, public spaces and service areas on ships are areas where automatic glassbulb operated nozzles should be utilized. A glassbulb operated nozzle will activate by heat locally in the area where the fire occurs. For such areas we offer a range of products including automatic low pressure watermist nozzles, rosettes to hide installation holes in the ceiling around the nozzles, special installation tools for the nozzles and alarm check valves, which gives alarm in case of a nozzle activation due to a fire. 3.1 Automatic Low Pressure Watermist Nozzles type OH. All Model OH nozzles are concealed nozzles to be installed with the nozzle plate flush with the ceiling surface and fit in ø50- ø55mm ceiling holes using the Model OH-S36 nozzle spanner. Model OH-rosettes should be utilized as well. Model OH nozzles are as standard available with the cover-plate finish in Chrome or RAL 9010 but can be supplied in any RAL colour or metal plating s on request. 10 3.2 Rosettes Model OH-R rosette for type OH automatic nozzles The rosette forms a fine finish between the semi concealed nozzles and the ceiling and wall surfaces. The rosette is designed for locations with small vibrations and is available in various finishes and RAL colours. The rosette screwed on the nozzles by thread connection. Besides the standard version Model OH-R-T, the rosette also comes in a version (Model OH-R-TH) with four screw holes placed on the top surface. These can be used to lock the rosette to the ceiling. OHRTH On request 3.3 Installation Spanners Model OH-S36 installation nozzle spanner for type OH automatic nozzles The OH-S36 is an installation tool for the OH-automatic nozzle series and should be used for nozzle installations in walls and ceilings. Machinery spaces and cargo pump-rooms are areas on ships are areas where open nozzles should be utilized. For protection of such areas a number of nozzles should be spraying water at the same time either as a full flooding system where all nozzles in the enclosure are active in case of fire, or as a local protection system where only a limited number of nozzles are activated at the same time. It has been tested and approved to the IMO MSC/Circ test method for machinery spaces and cargo pump rooms in volumes up to 5036m3, with a ceiling height of 10m. It has also been tested to the latest revision of IMO s local protection standard IMO MSC.1/Circ for installation heights from 0,75m to 11m above the risk area. The K6 nozzle is TA + MED approved by Lloyds Register and DNV. On one 6m pipe 24 nozzles are installed, 2 nozzles per 0.5meter. Every pair are positioned with 180 degree between them and in function they will spray watermist to both sides of the pipe. The pipes are installed in parallel lines with 1.7meter between them and throughout the full length of the area. The system has been tested and approved to the IMO 1165 bilge test without use of any foam enhancements. 17 4.1.6 Model C-EL electrical operated control valve Model C control valves are designed to control water access to nozzle pipes on sprinkler style and low pressure water mist systems. Model C control valves are installed in local application systems and deluge systems, in pipe system designed with PN16 pipes. The valves are operated by a 12VDC solenoid valve. The CE marked DeFlameTec flame detector is a patented, robust and reliable flame detector which has been successfully tested to the EN54-10 for flame detectors. The Deflametec flame detector is an ATEX class 2 approved flame detector. The DeFlameTec detector provide the means of reducing risks of false alarms to a minimum as it detects fires exclusively from the narrow spectral range, which equals the light radiated from carbon oxidation.
