Between 2007 and 2016, the GDP gowth ate fo the Goods-poducing industies fluctuated consideably (fom -33.0% in 2015 to 33.8% in 2008) due mainly to activities in Mining, quaying, and oil and gas extaction. Howeve, the GDP gowth ate fo the Sevicespoducing industies fluctuated within a elatively naow magin (fom 1.0% in 2014 and 2015 to 4.2% in 2011) ove the same peiod. Note: The cuent calculation of GDP is based on the input-output stuctue of the economy in 2014 (benchmak yea). Substantial evisions in subsequent yeas can occu due to updated benchmak yea. Please see endnote 2 on page 8. The GDP of an industy epesents the value added by labou and capital in tansfoming inputs puchased fom othe industies into output. This analytical epot pesents Statistics Canada s latest estimates of Yukon s eal GDP by industy at basic pices in chained (2007) dollas. These figues ae subject to evision. GDP is one of the pimay economic indicatos used by decision-makes within the govenments and financial and othe institutions to evaluate the health of the economy. A lage incease in eal GDP is intepeted as a sign that the economy is doing well, while a small o negative incease indicates poo economic pefomances.

This method was adopted as it poduces the most accuate measue of gowth in GDP and its components, and the change bings the Canadian measue in line with the US quately Income and Poduct Accounts which also use the chain Fishe fomula to measue eal GDP. An impotant consequence of using chain indexes is that the associated volume measues ae not additive. That is, the sum of the chained values fo each component of an aggegate does not equal the chained value of the aggegate.
