2 CURTAIN WALLING, SHOPFRONTS AND SPECIALS CURTAIN WALLING SHOPFRONTS SPECIALS Curtain Walling is a wall facade self draining pressure glazed system that provides virtually unlimited configurations and solutions that allows maximum entrance of light into the building. The wide range of Curtain Wall applications also offer technical solutions for different performance requirements of a facade such as high insulating requirements. Shopfronts are used to make the maximum use of light and space available in an opening. Through our technical design of the shopfront system, we can meet virtually any of your opening requirements using our product. Through expertise manufacturing and design the product can also be used to incorporate most of our other products, such as having a sliding window or hinge door within a shopfront. The Origin Shopfront product has passed the strict AAAMSA wind deflection and water test required for the A3 rating. The product has been designed to allow for easy installation and servicing. Custom made sizes and configurations are easily available on request. 4 WHAT S IN A NAME? When Origin Aluminium started in 2005, the company needed a name that not only was unique, but also one that embodied the history and commitment entrenched within the people that work here. Prior to 1969 the only type of patio and sliding doors in the country were made of either wood or steel. Albert Kalil (our MD Grant Kalil s Grandfather) and a colleague, who were working for Wispeco at the time, were tasked with investigating this new modern type of patio door made of aluminium which was quickly gaining in popularity in the rest of the world. They left for the USA to investigate. They came upon a company in California called Arcadia, brought a door back to South Africa and manufactured it under license from Arcadia. This was the ORIGIN of the aluminium patio door industry in South Africa. This is one of the many reasons that all at Origin are so passionate about the Aluminium and Glass Industry in South Africa and why we are taking such an active role in the development of new and improved products with a commitment to quality and service that is unrivaled.

5 OVERVIEW Origin Aluminium, founded in 2005, is a national producer of Aluminium and Glass architectural products. It was the brainchild of Grant Kalil who, together with Grant Saville, Kevin Minnaar, Rajen Naicker, Kisten Naicker and Charles Honeywill have between them over 85 years of experience in the industry. This energized and experienced team was given an enormous boost with Neville Kalil taking up the role of chairman of The Group. Neville was a co-founder of Kal Aluminium and brought to Origin a wealth of experience and respect from the industry. His technical and management skills, combined with the dynamic approach of the younger members of the team and rounded off by Tereza Rodrigues 24 years experience on the financial side of our industry, have all contributed to the success of Origin as a reliable supplier of quality, ready-to-install, finished products at competitive prices. With manufacturing facilities in Gauteng, the Western and Eastern Cape, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Free State, Origin s objective is to become the vehicle via which its clientele can prosper, by confidently concentrating their efforts on negotiating and winning contracts, instead of concerning themselves with the problematic issues surrounding manufacturing. Through improved efficiencies, innovative design and motivated support teams, Origin believes it is able to make their products quicker than and at least as well as any other manufacturer. Sales, financial, manufacturing and support staff have all been handpicked in all regions and consist of highly motivated and energized individuals, experienced in the industry and fully committed to the success of their various portfolios within the company. Many staff members enjoy equity in the company, further incentivising their efforts. Origin is an AAAMSA member and continuously tests its products to the strict requirements of the new building regulations regarding deflection, glazing, water and air infiltration. Origin s domestic Patio Door became the first in the country to adhere to the SANS and wind deflection tests, whilst our Casement Window has been successfully tested to the AAAMSA A3 rating. During 2009, further successful tests were achieved on the Vertical Slider (A1), the Horizontal Slider (A2), the Side Hung Window (A1), the Curtain Wall (A4) and the Shopfront (A3). Our products have been designed with these specifications in mind as well as factors such as aesthetics, handling, installation and cost. Research and Development work has also begun on the upcoming new energy regulations. 26 ENERGY AWARENESS Sealed Insulating Glass Units With ever-rising energy costs and impending government legislation, sealed insulated glass units are becoming more and more essential to any building. By trapping a layer of dry air between two glass panes, thermal resistance is naturally increased and heating and cooling costs reduced. Condensation Eliminated The tremendous insulating properties of dehydrated air in the SIGU s ensure the inner pane is at virtually the same temperature as the room, thus largely eliminating condensation. Reduced Noise Levels Generally, SIGU s offer approximately 20 30% improvement in sound control over a single glazed window, dependant on glass selection. How Glass Can Provide Solar Control Solar control can be achieved in a number of ways, including bode-tinted glass, coated glass and laminated glass.
