2 SIMPEX-OBJEKT Company Profile SIMPEX-OBJEKT was established as a family-owned company in 1972 and has remained so ever since. At the outset the focus was on the equipping of hospitals, rehabilitation centers and rest homes in Germany. But very soon, through the company s undertakings in hospitals in particular, solid business contracts with doctors in the private practice sector were established. Within Germany private general practitioners treat their patients not in hospitals but in their own practice premises under contracts with statutory health insurance companies. SIMPEX-OBJEKT decided therefore to specialize in the private practice field and in 1979 commenced the outfitting of such clinics. Over the years the company, in response to increasing demand, has also branched into production of single items of furniture and basic medical equipment for practices, such as examination couches, trolleys and stools. This line has continually expanded to such an extent that since 1993 it has formed the main basis of the business. Today SIMPEX-OBJEKT is counted among the world s largest producers of basic medical practice furniture offering its customers comprehensive concepts, co-ordinated color schemes and solutions. Production output, though steadily increasing, has not enabled the company to avoid, unfortunately, rationalization. In spite of globalization and development of new leading technologies aiding production, the company s main location in Wahlstedt now employs 40 people. Today SIMPEX-OBJEKT supplies its products not only to its distinguished German market but to all the countries of Western Europe together with some in Eastern Europe, as well. 5 Here you are really safe! HD Heavy Duty Couches Most of our couches are constructed to accommodate a Nominal Static Load of 400kg or a Moving Load of 135kg. Some of our couches within the SIMPEX Modular System COMPOSITUM are also designed to accommodate a Nominal Static Load of 1.100kg or a Moving Load of 330kg. In order to facilitate the better understanding of this catalogue, we have assigned the Elephant symbol to highlight the different characteristics of our couches White Elephant: Nominal Static Load: Moving Load: White Elephant: Nominal Static Load: Moving Load: 500 kg 160 kg 600 kg 200 kg When building our couches, we do not know any technical rules which would correctly express their exact load limit capacity. According to the reports of the media, all began when an examination couch in a medical practice collapsed under the weight of a 220 kg woman. This 37-year-old woman even suffered a comminuted fracture of her foot. On top of this and because of her overweight, it has been impossible for the rescue team to carry her away on a stretcher through the staircase. They had to finally rescue her with the help of a crane to bring her at ground level from the fourth floor. This is not an isolated phenomenon! 68 Why is there changeable upholstery? More hygiene for your couch! With time every upholstery loses its elasticity, strength and good appearance through contact with perspiration, skin oil and disinfectants, since all of these contribute to plasticiser migration, that is gradual disintegration of the material, with the result that the cover becomes dry and brittle. Generally the couch has then to be taken to a professional upholsterer to be recovered. This means effort, interruptions in the working routine and costs to be spend, especially if the whole upholstery had to be renewed. Following various suggestions from our customers we have, since 1991, been developing changeable click technology upholstery. Our hygienic changeable upholstery is more cost effective and far simpler than getting a new upholstery cover. This system is absolutely unique on the market and can only be used with Simpex couches! How can I know if my couch is compatible with the changeable upholstery system from SIMPEX? 1. Picture shows the distance of upholstery 2. Catch pin 3. Clips-technique with plastic socket Distance piece 1. All couches from SIMPEX have, as a standard, a security distance between upholstery and frame which complies with German norm DIN The distance piece can be fixed with a catch pin or a steel angle (see photo above red circle). 3. Bellow the upholstery supporting plate, you can find the mounting clip socket where the distance piece must be mounted. These problems are solved by the changeable upholstery of SIMPEX in the twinkling of an eye: Scratched, worn through or torn pieces of upholstery are very often repaired with plasters or tapes when it should be taken care with more of a professional attention. The preparation of the upholstery of a couch cannot, in any case, be hygienic or officiant when it s been repaired with tape or plasters. But, since so long, as anyone thought of a viable solution? 68 This couch looks pristine and well looked after. Unfortunately for the patient, this couch is the one showed on the left covered with a towelling cover. The suppliers of these kind of covers advertise it as extremely absorbent Great! How would one like to line in a hotel bed with soft towelling bedding? A very chic removable towelling cover caries: Pathogen gems Fungi Parasites This is not very expensive and, at first sight, it seems very clean and sanitised! In a medical context, this solution is not to be recommended!
