Hello and Welcome Divisional Winners New Garden Employee of the Month Wonders of the World Welcome Zara Bonfire Night Welcome Jake Halloween Team Barchy Care Awards New Barchester Home Barchester Blog Carehome.co.uk I am bursting with pride after our recent CQC report awarded us a good rating in all five of the inspected domains, giving us an overall good rating. The outcome is testimony to the hard work and dedication of the team here at House all of whom have worked incredibly hard to achieve this fantastic result. After such a lovely summer we are more than ready to welcome the crisp days and bright colours of autumn. It ll soon be time to snuggle in by the fire side, thanks to the maintenance team, the St Piran s 6 bed side has a brand new one to enjoy. Included in this edition is the much welcome news that work on our new garden is now underway. There s always something that needs doing here at but it s great to take stock of what we ve achieved and re-focus on what s needed next, which is where you come in. We always welcome your comments, feedback and suggestions (even if they do come with a bit of an ouch!). We all have our part to play in team to ensure the best possible outcome for the people who live here. Have a beautiful, bright autumn. See you in the winter. 2 News in and around Divisional Winners Jo Vine is the divisional winner of Care Practitioner of The Year. Wendy Cronin who helps our hairdresser won Volunteer of the Year. Well done both of you! New Garden Work has finally commenced on our much awaited sensory garden. The garden is by Petherwin and will be developed by Phil Vine during the autumn and winter months. We already look forward to spending time in a lovely peaceful garden next summer. Employee of the Month for September Sarah Sharland was chosen as our Employee of the Month after being nominated by several colleagues. They wanted Sarah to know, that her support and professionalism is very valued by many of us. Sarah received a bunch of flowers and a 25 Love to Shop voucher presented by Careen Harris. If you would like to nominate an employee, please do so at any time and post your entry in the box by reception. Careen then chooses the winner towards the end of every month. Wonders of the World Pictured is Dave, one of our cooks. Can you see, that he has two frying pans with double yolk eggs? The kitchen took delivery of two trays of eggs with double yolks. When young chickens pullets are in the early days of egg production and have not quite got the hang of how to lay a single yolk, they may make a double yolk. Statistically, the chances of getting 4 double yolk eggs in a tray is one to every trillion and we had 60! That s how science explains it, but superstition has it, that a double yolk egg is a sign of a hurried wedding due to an unplanned pregnancy. Fancy that we may have 60 more babies soon!

3 News in and around Welcome to the world, Zara Congratulations to Amy Phillip, who came to show us her 10 day old baby girl, Zara Susan Stephens. Zara was born on July 27 th and weighed 6 pounds and 4 oz. Vivian Labiel who works with Amy as a carer, but has had a long career as a midwife, was quick to hold Zara. Bonfire Night Bonfire night is an opportunity for us to have something a little different for our supper, and we always take the chance to have a treat. Hotdogs, burgers, baked potatoes and curried beans will be on the menu and the equivalent flavours will be available for the soft and pureed food options. There is a firework display in the nearby park, so we may be able to watch fireworks through the windows or, weather permitted, even go there. And welcome, Jake We also want to congratulate Ali Crook, who had a baby boy called Jake Logan Harrison. He was born on July 14 th and is already a bundle of joy. Halloween We have our traditional pumpkin carving competition, when the different units come up against each other to carve the most spectacular looking pumpkin. All the pumpkins are then taken around the home and residents, staff and visitors are invited to vote for the best pumpkin. The winner gets a Halloween themed prize to share on their unit. Of course, we also encourage anyone brave enough, to dress up for Halloween, just because it s a bit of fun.

4 A few words from Barchester A great day for Team Barchy A huge congratulations to the Barchester staff members who completed the London 10k in scorching heat this summer. The atmosphere in Central London was fantastic, with Westminster shut down to traffic and transformed into a moving street party of thousands of people running, cheering and laughing. The runners were also extremely busy fundraising ahead of the big day, smashing their target and raising an absolutely fantastic 2,119 for Barchester s Charitable Foundation, plus gift aid. Our Divisional Winners have already been named, and the award ceremony will be held in Manchester on October 11th, when the National Winners will be announced.
