Definition Single terminal block: This is a connection device for the junction, that is, the electrical and mechanical connection, between two flexible or rigid conductors. As the link is created between one input and one output, the junction is said to be single. If there are 2 links, this is called a 2-level block. PERFORMANCE In accordance with standard IEC , the terminal blocks are classed as for use in polluted atmospheres 3. Degree 3 indicates the presence of conducting pollution or non-conducting dry pollution which may become conducting as a result of condensation. Function of the terminal blocks: The cross-sections, voltages and currents associated with our terminal blocks sometimes have different units or classifications, depending on the country (connected with the test approvals of the standards in question). Types of conductor Branch connection It is possible to connect 2 conductors to a single connection point under the following conditions: - Do not mix flexible cores and rigid cores together (and 2 different types of core in general). - Do not mix together 2 rigid core conductors with different cross-sections. Notion of the foot The base of the terminal blocks is called the foot. This foot is a particular shape which is designed for mounting the blocks on rails. There are 3 types of steel rail: one with an asymmetric cross-section and two with a symmetrical cross-section. - Asymmetric G shaped rail, known as the G32 rail, conforming to standard EN Symmetrical top hat rail, depth 7.5 mm, known as the 7.5 top hat rail and conforming to standard EN Symmetrical top hat rail, depth 15 mm, known as the 15 top hat rail. Interconnection accessories Bars and connection busbars which are not cut to length even when they are positioned in a contiguous fashion, enable the initial voltage classes of the terminal blocks in question to be maintained (compliance with the leakage lines and air distances). If they are cut to length, it becomes necessary to use insulation dividers to maintain the voltage class.
