1 UPDATE April 2017 INDIANHEAD HARLEY OWNERS GROUP EAU CLAIRE, WI CHAPTER # Indianhead HOG Chapter Welcomes New Members We would like to welcome the following new motorcycle owners, who are now new HOG Chapter Members! John & Christine Pelka 2016 FLTRU Gary & Edna Sahs 2017 FLHR Doyle Laudal 2017 FLHXS Victor Vandeberg 2017 FLHX Bill & Diane Edwards 2017 FLHTCU Jason & Shoua Bauer 2017 FLHXS John & Tony Polzer 2016 FLRT Congratulations! From the Road Captain The riding season is coming up on us fast. Our first Wednesday evening ride is May 10 th and we do not have a ride leader for that date yet, or for any of our May dates for that matter. Last year we had 19 rides. Our biggest ride was to Bresina s in Tilden with 20 bikes and 35 total riders. The weather was perfect which helped a lot. Our smallest outing was to Old Country Buffet with 8 members arriving by car due to heavy rain. Of our 19 rides last year, 4 were rained out and we averaged 23 riders at the other 15 events. Even on our rain dates we still averaged 16 riders by car. That means even when it rains the camaraderie is still there. Check out the ride schedule and select an event to lead. It s always fun to ride different roads and routes. This is your chance to share a gem with the group! The only important thing is to obey all traffic laws and try to stay out of heavy traffic as much as possible. I am looking forward to a fun year of riding, making new friends and visiting new places. The first ride of the season will be the Spring Flood Run on April 15 th. Mark your calendars to attend and we can discuss our plans at the next regular meeting on April 12 th. Ride safe and have fun. Bruce Roberts, Road Captain From the Director Fellow HOG Members, As I write this letter, I get flashbacks of almost a year
2 ago. My friends are getting ready to run the annual spring flood run. I on the other hand am nursing a hip replacement that was weeks away from being a redo. What a difference a year makes. Yesterday I put the first 100 miles on a 2017 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited. WOW is all I have. I tried, I really tried to hold back from purchasing another new H-D. We all have our bad habits right? BTW I'm not the only one that has heard the rumors, the stories. They are true. I will again make a pitch, to all HOG Members to take advantage of all opportunities available to members. Lead a Wednesday night ride, call a fellow HOG Member and plan a weekend ride. Heck even make yourself available for a night out, or a weekend getaway. Remember everyone, we never know when the next time we flip the kick stand up, if it will be our last. Ride hard and ride safe, and do everything possible to insure that we are as safe as possible. Begin by attending the REF next Saturday April 8th at Sport Motors from 8:30am to 3:30pm. Until then ride safe. Ken Seubert, Chapter Director February Meeting Minutes Meeting was called to order by Director Ken Seubert at 6:30pm. Jody explained to members some upcoming special offers from Sport Motors Harley Davidson. Old Business Dave H. gave us the information about the volunteer work at the ski-jump event. The Club received a check for $ for their efforts. Volunteers said they enjoyed the event as it was something they knew little about until volunteering. New Business Every Saturday in March is March -ing into Spring Saturday. Jody explained the different promotions that are going on each Saturday. Lillian, a former Sport Motors H-D employee is coming back to visit on March 18 th and will be at Sport Motors that Saturday if anyone wishes to visit with her. Ken asked for a volunteer to write the Director s letter next month, there were no takers on this. Ken presented this year s Wednesday night ride schedule. It was passed around so members could sign up for leading a ride. Mike, a new member was welcomed into the Club. He s originally from Ladysmith and moved back to the area in He is managing several area restaurants and had some new ideas for promoting the club. A group he is associated with will be opening a Cowboy Jack s restaurant in the area in the near future. He left his contact information with Ken and will stay in touch with the club. Next up was long-time chapter member, Dan Staab, who explained a class offered to enhance your skills in slow riding conditions. It teaches riding skills you need to maintain control at slow speeds and also what to do if your bike tips to get it back up on 2 wheels. The Club will discuss this and get back to him if we are interested in scheduling a class. The Bike Blessing date was discussed and it is tentatively scheduled for April 23 rd at 3:00pm with a rain date of April 30 th. Sport Motors Open House and Demo Days will be May 11 th - 13 th. Roy asked if the Club would help with the Brat Stand as it has in the past? We certainly will was the members response. The annual Soup Cook-Off is this coming Saturday March 11 th. If you are bringing a soup entry, please be at Sport Motors by 10:30am. The event starts at 11:00am and ends at 1:00pm with the vote counting. A winner is then announced. We have several Wednesday night ride leader openings. Some are the early rides in May so let s think about volunteering to lead these rides. Many thanks to those who have already signed up to lead rides. Also a big thank-you to Bruce Roberts our Road Captain and the committee who put this all together.
3 The summer picnic caterer was discussed and it was decided to stay with Famous Dave s. The reasoning behind this is that they have the seating to accommodate us in the case of inclement weather. Meeting adjourned at 7:12pm. Respectfully Submitted, Brad Brenner, Secretary Indianhead HOG Chapter Annual Soup & Chili Cook-Off Thank you to all the chefs for the variety of delicious soups and chili prepared for our Cook-Off Event held at the dealership on March 11. The food and friendship was enjoyed by the many people in attendance. Special thanks to Julie Barnett, Sue Schaefer, and Cheri Case for their delicious baked treats also. Thank you to all that attended as well. It was a pleasant afternoon, at a time of the year when the weather wasn t too nice yet. But we could still talk about the riding season ahead.
